  • Welcome To Episode 4 of The How To Farm Series. My name is Cole The Cornstar. I am a 26-year old farmer who farms 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans. Over the next 365 days, I will be documenting everything that happens on Cornstar Farms in an effort to show what it takes to feed the world. In today's episode, we are planting soybeans, controlling weeds in the field, and overcoming obstacles that are trying to keep us from doing those two things.

A cheap thought on sunscreen why not just buy a cheap pop-up tent and 8 / 8 And put it up over your mixing area that way at least you have some Sun reprieve while you're standing there doing stuff Usually pretty cheap and you know if it gets wrecked by the wind not at least a mass of loss and I'm sure you could probably you know screw it down to the deck of the trailer and you wouldn't have to worry about it blowing away

This channel is geared more towards other farmers but as a senior citizen I am finding this very informative. Have watched this channel for two years and enjoyed and learned a lot. When things break down it is so expensive to replace. I pray that farmers would get more of the profits for their hard work. I won't complain about the cost of food next time I go to the grocery store.

Cole, I think you would really benefit from laminated instructions on some of your equipment operations. Just simple step-by-step procedures on how to prepare, start, run, and stop something. Seems like every year simple "forgot something" results in delays or lost money. Type 'em up, print them, verify them, laminate them, and mount them on the equipment. Your mixer, planters, and monitors seem to be the main culprits for forgetting to do something.

What a day Cole. The only one that had a good day was your dad. Everyone worked a double except Cooper that's doing a 48 hours day from the sound of it. I remember doing that when I was younger. Planning season means no rest until finished. One breakdown and you can looks thousands of dollars in a heartbeat. Hope everything goes better Monday. I remember growing up we didn't work on Sunday. Everytime we did nothing went right and we lost bubble what we thought we were making. Hope your new week starts on a good note.

I guess You can still get a kit at the Local Auto Parts Store to put Freon in the Air Conditioner on Your Tractor. I recommend adding a can that has oil in the freon and You compressor should last longer.

Awesome series! Somebody needs to educate the public on what happens on a farm!

You have probably emptied the tote with the broken valve, for future reference, use your telehandler or something to lift the tote up on the valve side, tip it back enough to get the product below the valve, change the valve, go again. Tipping the tote back away from the valve side would have the product level below the valve outlet point, allowing the valve to be changed without losing any product or spilling any product, food for thought, keep it in your bag of tricks.

Hey Cole, it just hit me, you live in what is becoming prime tornado land. I hope you have a tornado shelter somewhere on your property for your family. If not, it might be something to consider. The last couple of weeks have been nuts, and if Ryan Hall Y'all is right, and he usually is, this year is going to be particularly violent. Love your stuff! Be safe.

Hey Cole, and family :) I love this new series, i'm an 18th generation farmer from Eastern Canada, I love the farm vids and have been here since around the 12,000 subscriber mark :) having said that...may I please request, for the love of all things Holy...could you add a one minute blurb onto the next video just explaining to all the new subscribers that found you during your awesome house reno videos, could you explain that you are a farmer, and during the farming season, that is where you must shift your attention, and when the farming needs are met, you can turn your attention back to the house. Oh...and pleae maybe update your fans on the whereabout of Roman before an actual APB is sent out for him - justin too.
And lastly, I ask this on bended knee...address the "winter hat, long sleeves and pants" . For those of us who have been here for a looooong time, we've triend to help share the fact your burn really easily and have very sensitive skin so hence the hats, long sleeve and long pants, but I fear for the overall health and wellness for some of your fans who are more than a little upset by your choice of head, arm and leg covers 😂. Thanks Cole!!

It's 80 in the cab and your wearing long sleeve shirt and a stocking cap!

I think the long sleeve shirt is made of a lightweight, breathable material. He's wearing long sleeves to avoid getting sunburned. But yeah, wearing the stocking cap doesn't make much sense when it's 80.

Tip the tote back till the liquid is lower than the hole and swap the valve. Or disconnect the hose from the mix mate and hold it above the fluid line to get the tote repositioned to drain into another tote

I have watched Cole from the start of his channel and I really enjoy both the farming and house reno content. I am guessing once the paddocks are planted that he will be back on the house renovation.
Also Cole after watching for years now and the amount of things that go wrong with your machinery and the costs of fixing. For the amount of hours that some are used per season would it not be cheaper to rent?
