You remind me so much of myself in the 80s. My 10 solid years of metal fabrication +2 years of welding school was the most enjoyable time in my entire life. carry-on brother I wish you and your family well.😊
@@arossweldingwell, long content is good; however, I usually skip parts. Today I'm pretty sick, read 7 hours them watched this and an hour long video. Did not watch closely. I did miss your comments along the way, and the close up at the end was great. Cheers, freind.
90% of this is allll prepping. On test day. Most times it’s good to have a good helper guys. Especially on them In-Service testing days. A 4 day test at the most. Good stuff Mr. Ross.
Yes liked the full content as well it shows no camera switch a roo and how much time goes into it I can only imagine the reviewing on your part you put two hours in and now watched it again for two hours editing lol great job brother I did get something out of it thanks
That’s the correct way to lay it out. Laying it backwards is an automatic bust. And always cut behind the drop piece. Anyway, there is no such thing as a certified welder. You have to test for every company, for every job.
I'm just a humble fabricobler, so pipe work is a little foreign to me other than the welding itself. Could you explain what you mean by "laying it out backwards". To me, I only see one way to prep this.
15yrs ago i thought i was good wasting time in school getting certified even though I already knew how to weld. My first job said we don't care about that you have to pass an xray test. I never renewed my certs 😂🤣
Dang good video. I noticed that you put alot of time in the prep and that made the welding alot easyer and quicker. Keep it up and remember to learn something ever day.
Great job Austin ! Happy that you showed the inside, I was curious about how it would be. Does all this prep and finesse go into tie-in's on a pipeline ? Thanks 👍😊
@Austin Ross -- Can you show how you fixed your welding hood with the strap from a pancake? I have the old rubber strap on mine and for years it has worked pretty good but I like the idea of that wide strap on the hood.
Anyone watching and thinking about doing this trade please learn to use all guards for all your tools. Some places would not allow no movements of guards and saftey equipment.
QUESTIONS FOR AUSTIN 😎👍 1. Was that all done with 6010 ? 2. Is there a reason why you use small lenses instead of hoods with large glass? 3. How many left handed gloves do you go through a year on average? 4. Do you have a favorite rod manufacturer in 6010 & 7018? Keep up the great work, and never loose that BIG smile. ✌️😎👍
1. Root is done with 6010 2. its a pancake hood, eyebox so your lense doesn't get light reflection from the sun 3. depends per welder/ type of job 4. 6010 and 7018 are different rods for different purpose not different manufacturers
@@repairfreaklooks like Austin doesn't care about answering your question so this guy did the best he could! Stop riding the dudes sausage he's not God he's just a welder like everyone else! 🖕
Can you make a video about fire safety as well. As welder we always over look that as home projects. What we should look out for as in paper, brush and what to have on hand for when something happens. Thanks bud love your channel!
Great vid , really gives a good insight of how you break things down. Maybe a voice over for some sections of the video would be a nice touch. It was Beautiful day to be burnin rod
Great videos Austin. Anyone know where I can get that strap he has on the helmet? I use the pipeliner harness with the rubber strap, but I want that wider elastic band strap he has. Looks the same as a pancake helmet strap.
Hey austin much respect man how would some one go about getting coupons like this to practice whats good places to go see or ask from lots of love from Chicago 😂
First off I appreciate and like all your videos. Usually you articulate exactly what you're doing. Maybe you had a problem with the edit of the video cause normally you would explain more.
Man, we had to bring the camera closer to see the opening and we also want to see the anchoring to see how it looks because here in Mexico they want it without any details and if it is somewhat complicated
Is there a simple formula for the cut-out patern, like a baseball take apart would be for a diameter bigger than the baseball cause the flap go past 90 and enclose around themselves. Whatever, probably enough fancy guides to buy on amitron...
Well, you can't see the anchoring inside here in Mexico, there are quality dogs who want the anchoring to pass you like a test at 90 degrees. I don't know if they have more tolerance.
Laying the bevel back on the throats is key…… don’t have good heat and rod angle and a good bead opening it could be a struggle down there, chance trapping trash and undercutting especially that top edge…. to big an opening may drop in some metal…… Rember it’s a weld test not a grind test…… little extra prep goes along way……always put some heat to it prior to tacking off de-stress the pipe alittle…. Helps with the shrinking of the bead opening so your not jammed up to tight when tacking…… I don’t mind alittle stepping if I have to….. not everything is a drag ……just my experience 🤷♂️
Hey Austin, can you or anyone help me find the store selling the "UP 10 MF!" sweatshirt/hoodie? I shared the image to a friend in June (with no link), but also switched computers in July--so I can't dig it up in history. I was going to get that one for my friend because he really liked it (he's a reformed ship-builder). I've bought stuff out of your store too! I might get some more. UP 10!
Why do people worry so much about dimes? If you want dimes, tig weld it. If it's a 2F or 1G position, don't do fancy "techniques." The more you play around in a down hand position, the bigger the chances of failing an ultrasonic test or any other destructive test.
I've had 'most' of the week off-use it or lose it! stopped by my local Airgas and picked up wire to save Rob a trip out,2 core,2 aluminum and an .035 solid because my 260's almost out, again

Hola Austin me gustó éste formato de video en donde podemos ver cada detalle y el tiempo real de preparación 👏🏻
Hi Austin, thanks for share the video
My pleasure!
We had to lay it out the branch test it's a pain in but the would not let us use a template many years ago ago.
No fire watch, water buffalo or fire extinguisher lol I’m kidding brother love your videos
I wish there was more commentary of what you're doing and why you're doing it, but overall, a really great video, I've been needing this!

Probably a foolish question but are your oxy/acetylene leads twisted for a reason?
My husband, pipeline welder for 40 plus years, says they are twisted to make them more flexible.
I'd like to see more of these!

Where’d you get that elastic suspension on your hood and how’d you do that is there an attachment just like the regular suspension

You basically just answered your question of course keep a fire extinguisher is that what you wanted to hear him say?
Its some dry grass. If it lights up from some sparks just step on it. Its not gonna make the entire field go up in seconds lol
great wokr but why switch rods after every tack?
Did you cut straight into it or at an angle for an easier bevel?
Nice 👍
Very good Video 👍 👍
Great welds also Wow
At the ears shouldn't the inside edge of the branch pipe match the inside edge of the header pipe..?
where do you get the black strap head band for your lid? i wanna get on for mine

Are you going back out to the oil field Austin?
Wow this is awesome
Are your weld test coupons only subjected to visual and bend tests Are they ever tested with XRay or with Ultrasound?
Yes, sometime they are x-rayed

Another question, the glass I have loses its flame when I'm anchoring and I can't see the anchoring well anymore.
On the branch tests do they have you use scrap pipe a lot of the time or do they have separate pipes for testing?
1:12:21 welding begins
Where can a guy buy a template like that red one you have?
What's the red tool fitted around the pipe called?
Good video as always wished it would've zoomed in to show better close ups

i can smell the burnt rust powder from the angle grinder through my PC screen. lovely

Cone rock
Well, you can't see the anchoring inside here in Mexico, there are quality dogs who want the anchoring to pass you like a test at 90 degrees. I don't know if they have more tolerance.
Dumb question but do you get extra respect of you layout.the cut by hand handbook style rather then using the red metal template overlay?
My experience is it doesn’t matter.
It’s good to know how to lay out but templates save time . No reason to waste time all it does is cost you money
Combo or fitter test, not on a test
