I liked the sawed off shotgun on his left leg. Would make it easy to draw for defensive fire out the door at targets while driving. Nice review as always.
I was finally able to get my hands on this vehicle and it is 100% complete. I also bought a new file card and blueprints from separate eBay sellers. Did all of this this past Friday and and yesterday on Saturday. To me, the year of 1988, produced some of the greatest G.I. Joe and Cobra figures and vehicles. Another great review done by you!
As a kid I switched SKIDMARK’s legs with WINDMILL’s so he was all orange. I also pulled the machine gun out of the Fox and used it as a troop carrier. Spearhead always rode shotgun. Repeater, hardball, and others all piled in the back.
Another great review! I feel bad for whoever designed Skidmark. Like you said, it's a great mold! The Desert Fox seems like it was marketed before it was finished properly.
Yeah, if they had made a few changes and updates before they pushed out the final product, it would have been a lot better. Some features may have been cut for cost. The vehicle does seem very cheaply made, but they managed to put a few special features on it despite the low cost.
This was one of the last vehicles that I got, maybe the second to last before the Cobra Rage, which had similar colors. I really liked everything about the look, including the orange missiles and turret. I usually didn't use both footpegs if there were two like that. One was enough. The only problem with it was the figure in the back could easily fall out when rolling this around, and being as sturdy as it was, it was designed to be rolled around. Not being able to see over the dashboard didn't bother me. I could use my imagination and pretend he could see, or pretend there was a windshield, or pretend there was a portal through which he could see, or whatever. Skidmark was also a good solid-looking figure.
I knew if i waited long enough, the gutter joke would appear, and I wasn't disappointed. Another stellar review. The Desert Fox was one of my favorite trucks. I used to load up the Desert Fox with the green berets and the communications in the back was for Dial Tone.
The Desert Fox would look pretty great with green berets and Dial Tone... maybe someone other than Skidmark would drive. It is a nice fast-attack and recon vehicle.
This is a fun one I missed originally and will be after now. Also I tend to think this was more of a replacement to the A.W.E Striker rather than the Vamp Jeep. Fun stuff!
interesting (or not so interesting) fact: over here in Europe, they renamed the driver, here he was called Treadmark. Don't know if that is any better...
Nice review. I didn't get the Desert Fox until I was an adult collector, but it was one of the first things I picked up when I got back into Joe back in 2003. You should do a review of the GiJoe Persuader and its wacky pants figure, Backstop.
I'll definitely get to the Persuader eventually. I have owned a couple incomplete Persuaders, and a few incomplete Backstops, but I've never take the time to complete either of them. I will do it someday, though. They won't be neglected.
I never owned this vehicle but after seeing your review I may have to pick one up. The look and colors on the Desert Fox remind me of a toy from the 1970s for some reason.
Very cool review of the cool G.I. Joe Desert Fox and driver Skid Mark. I bought Skid Mark in a action figure lot and I will definitely be getting the Desert Fox soon. Awesome review of the toy, thumbs up.
Love this vehicle and Skid Mark is a cool looking figure (though his name and color scheme could be better). I would say if you repainted him he would look great on the USS FLAGG as a deck hand.
I actually really like this vehicle. I never had it as a kid, but I always liked the futuristic design. The paint scheme on Skidmark was atrocious. Great review as usual !
I think this was the last Vehicle that I got as a kid. It came out at the end of my collecting days. I remember spray painting the orange parts tan and removing the missiles so it looked more realistic. Unfortunately he came out a little too close to the 90s neon era though. Too bad, except for the colors, Skid mark was a great figure sculpt.
lol great intro and ending :D Somehow i talked myself out of this as a kid but corrected that mistake recently with help from eBay. It's a fun vehicle.
Please do a review of the Hammer. It was one of the last GI Joe items I had in my life; I got it mostly because of how close it looked like an actual Humvee.
I'm late...But I had and loved this one as a kid. The dash issue, and the weird peg in the back always bugged me, along with the slightly odd stance required for the gunner. While a nicely done vehicle, it was starting to show the "cheapening" of the sculpts/builds. For a repaint/reissue, I'd love to see all(ALL) the orange on both the Desert Fox and Skidmark(teehee) redone in a light to mid gray. That would just look awesome. Also, if you had the VAMP II, Mauler, and DF...that's a damn nice looking desert strike group
Hope you know I'm a fan but imo you missed way too much potentially neat stuff.1. Desert Fox = General Erwin Rommel's nickname during WW22. Rommel's main pain in the butt were the British SAS or "Desert Rats"3. The Desert Rats drove around in similar vehicles with MG's angled for anti-air and ground targets4. That 20m machine gun looks an awful like a downgraded 40mm Bofors anti-air gun that could also be depressed for ground targets.5. The front of he vehicle looks very much like a skull from the costume of "The Punisher".6. The wheels probably lack outside detail as details attracts sand (even though they goofed on the cap thingy), and that thing was meant to go on sand.7. Skidmark's trousers have elastic to keep out sand.8. That sawed off shotgun resembles Mad Max's weapon. Possibly influenced by the movie "Beyond Thunderdome" which was released 3 years earlier and probably fresh on the mind of VCR owners everywhere.Keep this up bro, and Timmer's gonna be my new fav! :D
Usually the drivers are as cool as the vehicle they come with. Not so in this case. In one of the non-Marvel, non-Hama comic books (IDW I think) Skidmark died when a helicopter fell on his head.
I'm sorry to say I never had this one, though I had the vamp mark-one and i always played that the gun was controlled from the passenger seat or by the driver using a small screen to aim via a camera mounted on the gun. It was both anti-air and anti-personnel. It could also take out light vehicles.
One of the best ever Joe vehicles for sure, I like Skidmark as well, great sculpt great colours. Getting back to the DF I'd love to see a Night Force Desert Fox, that would be the shizz...🦊
So you cut GI. JOE off 1988 one year longer then I gave it. 1987 was getting a little to sci-fi, and they were starting the Neon Brigade. Which should have been another sub team. With Ice Cream Soldier as the CO.
No wonder I'm not a fan of this guy (especially as he was released one year after 1987 - the year there were no more episodes of the original 80s Sunbow cartoon, when a lot of the vehicle drivers began going downhill) [post-1986, the only good Joe pilot was 1989's Dogfight, who has an orange handlebar moustache].
Put ze candle beck!!! I do not understand later Joe vehicles. Hasbro was always trying to out perform the VAMP and kept failing. What Hasbro should have done was upsize the VAMP to actual comic proportions, 1:18 scale. That way, with gun removed, two additional figures could ride on the back deck, and then the gas cans could be removed and the basket could act as a gunnery station. The Joe's used the VAMP as a GP (jeep) vehicle, and drove it around town, and for longer trips. Then reissue a new VAMP each year, starting in '85. The first traditional green, then the Stinger, then VAMP Mk II, then in blue, but like the original VAMP, with a gun. Provide Joe and Cobra stickers with each release. Let kids decide. Skidmark is a combination Orange Julius with split pea soup! Why didn't Hasbro follow Palitoy's example and offer true military based sub-teams? Some of the first few year's worth of figs deserved promotions and to have their own sub-team. Not just recolors, but recast with same heads. Desert team, Dessert team (one man, Ice Cream Soldier LOL), VBSS, Intelligence gathering, Jungle, Snow, Undersea, etc. Offer the previously carded figure as a vehicle driver with a promotion and expanded responsibilities on the file cards. Kids could then get action figures they missed out on. Fisher Price put metal axels in Adventure People vehicles for years, and they are older than ARAH. Love the channel, but watching these later releases proves to me Hasbro, not a lack of interest, killed GI Joe.
great review again. whew! i wasn't sure if i would be able to contain the juvenile remarks when this review showed up. glad that you only did one literal codename segment. i never cared for this vehicle, i thought it stunk compared to others of its class. i mean the design and color scheme reeked. who wears green and brown in the desert, those colors need to be flushed and wiped from our collective memories. hasbro was circling the drain by this point with all the gimmicks it was rolling out. anyways i also didn't know you were a star trek fan, you had some klingons circling........cough cough. great review
Too much about the Desert Fox reminds me of the generic, made-in-Tijuana GiJoe knockoffs of the modern era. If this came out during the line's twilight years in '93 or '94 it would probably be a diamond in the rough, but for '88 it has a difficult time cutting the mustard despite some grounded qualities. The oversized frontend obstructing the figure's view would have really bothered me if I ever owned it. But I totally understand having a personal connection to the toy. At least the scale isn't quite as wonky as that of The Hammer. Whoa. That thing is like a suburban ranch with wheels.
A lot of people like the Hammer, and it does have a ton of features. It is nice that a G.I. Joe vehicle mimicked the Humvee, which was the state of the art at the time. But it was definitely overscaled. It would take up a lane and a half on the highway.
the Hammer is OK but it looks like the entire body was stamped out of one sheet of material - like the runners and interior are all part of the body i'd have given up some of the guns in exchange for some components
Those wheels are really terrible looking. If only the slapped on some standard style hubcaps in desert sand color or even the orange color. This would be so fun to repaint in classic green or even proper desert camo colors
desert fox is a better toy than i remember. skid mark is a WORSE figure than i remember. i would maybe overlook some of the short comings if for not for that lame ass driver.
I loved this toy as a kid. If skidmark came in his comic colors with a dark green vest and helmet, it would have been perfect.
The comic book coloring looks great. I'm sure someone has done a custom.
Agreed. '88 was a great year.
I just discovered this vehicle the other day. I need to get it. '88 was a phenomenal year for Joe's and their vehicles.
I have this Vehicle and Driver. He was renamed Treadmark in the UK, changed the filecard and all. got it kicking around somewhere
With that orange vest & hat, it looks like he's going deer hunting.
With a name like "Skidmark" he probably plays Russian roulette like Christopher Walken in "The Deerhunter".
I just discovered your videos. If I signed up for the Joe Team and they named me Skidmark, I'd probably quit.

I have such crystal clear memories of this toy. Apart from the GI Joe driver, the other passengers were generally CORPS guys :)
I'll take this one over the HAVOC any day! A solid, utilitarian vehicle, and another great review. keep'em coming!
Thank you!
+HoodedCobraCommander788 what about Dusty?
This is a fun one I missed originally and will be after now. Also I tend to think this was more of a replacement to the A.W.E Striker rather than the Vamp Jeep. Fun stuff!
Nicely done with the Frau Blücher reference there, that nearly killed me. :-)
interesting (or not so interesting) fact: over here in Europe, they renamed the driver, here he was called Treadmark. Don't know if that is any better...
I'm thinking the gun is modeled after the hispano suza 20mm auto cannon. ww2 pt boats had these. just a guess? I had this as a kid... I loved it.
Thank you for reviewing one of my favorite vehicles as a child.
Thanks! I hope you liked it.
Never heard of this before but it looks fine. You are correct that the wheel assembly area does look cheap compared to the vamp and other vehicles.
Nice review. I didn't get the Desert Fox until I was an adult collector, but it was one of the first things I picked up when I got back into Joe back in 2003. You should do a review of the GiJoe Persuader and its wacky pants figure, Backstop.

@@HCC788 Have you completed the Persuader and Backstop yet?
I never owned this vehicle but after seeing your review I may have to pick one up. The look and colors on the Desert Fox remind me of a toy from the 1970s for some reason.
Interesting. From the 70s? Maybe it has an Adventure Team vibe.
I could see him as a deck hand, and the orange color might work in that environment.
I have a few extras in my collection and that's what I use them for
I actually really like this vehicle. I never had it as a kid, but I always liked the futuristic design. The paint scheme on Skidmark was atrocious. Great review as usual !
Thank you!
Great and funny review as always! I considered the rear seat as a communication seat. Since there is an antenna besides it.
I think this was the last Vehicle that I got as a kid. It came out at the end of my collecting days. I remember spray painting the orange parts tan and removing the missiles so it looked more realistic. Unfortunately he came out a little too close to the 90s neon era though. lol great intro and ending :D Somehow i talked myself out of this as a kid but corrected that mistake recently with help from eBay. It's a fun vehicle.
Cool! I hope you enjoy the Desert Fox! It's not a bad little vehicle.
Please do a review of the Hammer. It was one of the last GI Joe items I had in my life; I got it mostly because of how close it looked like an actual Humvee.
I'll definitely review the Hammer when I have it complete. As you can tell from this video, I have a lot of parts to get.
Great Review. It was one of the vehicles I really wanted from that toy line.
I could possibly be picking this up in the next few weeks, 100% complete, perhaps even 2 of them.
I'm late...But I had and loved this one as a kid. The dash issue, and the weird peg in the back always bugged me, along with the slightly odd stance required for the gunner. While a nicely done vehicle, it was starting to show the "cheapening" of the sculpts/builds.

never had the dessert fox because my mom had a problem with Skid Marks name but she got me the Maggot with Worms never figured that one out
I'm sorry to say I never had this one, though I had the vamp mark-one and i always played that the gun was controlled from the passenger seat or by the driver using a small screen to aim via a camera mounted on the gun. It was both anti-air and anti-personnel. It could also take out light vehicles.
Did Skidmark keep a clean pair of underwear in the glove box of the Desert Fox...hey ohh
I have no idea what you mean. A skidmark is a mark left by a tire on the road. What kind of skidmark are YOU talkin' about?
Thank you for the Young Frankenstein reference.
I'm so happy some people got the reference :) It was Mrs. HCC788's idea.
One of the best ever Joe vehicles for sure, I like Skidmark as well, great sculpt great colours. Getting back to the DF I'd love to see a Night Force Desert Fox, that would be the shizz...🦊
Love the young Frankenstein reference lol
I'm glad someone got it!
Four years late, but I was just looking for someone to have caught that, too.
You and your wonderful family are the living end! No wonder I like your vids!
Solid Young Frankenstein reference 😏
Give him a Dusty type uniform and he's awesome
skidmark should've been Dusty v2....otherwise a great vehicle.
So you cut GI. JOE off 1988 one year longer then I gave it. 1987 was getting a little to sci-fi, and they were starting the Neon Brigade. Which should have been another sub team. With Ice Cream Soldier as the CO.
orange should be forgivable as it matches his ride.
All the good names were taken, in g.i.joe your given your nickname, oh poor guy, lol
That is not a nickname you want to stick with you.
He's dressed like a deerhunter, and with a name like "Skidmark" he probably plays Russian roulette like Christopher Walken in "The Deerhunter."
Skidmark has to be the most unfortunate codename in the entire history of GI Joe. Honestly, even Ice Cream Soldier is (slightly) preferable.
Dogfight was an awesome figure. It's a shame the Mudfighter didn't live up to the same level of quality.
Put ze candle beck!!! I do not understand later Joe vehicles. Hasbro was always trying to out perform the VAMP and kept failing. Why is Skidmark wearing a orange colored vest? That color makes you an easy target. There's a reason hunters wear orange.
Reminds me of the old tv show R.A.T Patrol.
This was probably the last vintage vehicle I bought.
How unfortunate that the driver's codename had to be Skidmark since it's a term for "Fecal Stain on One's Underwear".
great review hcc788. if this was your 2nd to last vehicle, what was your last vehicle.
The last vehicle I bought was the Cobra Stellar Stiletto.
Skidmark would look good in brown.
I understood the Ovaltine reference and it was genius
lol The Beavis and Butthead drop killed me!
Heh heh heheheheh heh heh.
HoodedCobraCommander788 I'd be lying if I didn't say I laughed like Beavis and Butthead every time you said Skidmark. huh huh huh
To action figures I would like to see a review on is Quick Kick and the green Cobre ninja which is a repaint of Storm Shadow
Great review, as always. But can I ask you something?
Have you got any M.A.S.K. toys?
I don't have any M.A.S.K. toys.
COOL REVIEW
Thank you!
I shouldn't have drunk cocoa and eaten a brownie before watching this video. 💩
Oof.
reissued issues this vehicle is a dinosaur hunter vehicle rock and roll an ambush driving this vehicle
Great Young Frankenstein parody.
Thank you! I wasn't sure how many people would get it.
Will you review the hammer
howdoo from 4 years in the future.
where there ever any plans to rerelease this in cnventional green camo colors?
He looks like he's dressed for deer season.
the Hammer is OK but it looks like the entire body was stamped out of one sheet of material - like the runners and interior are all part of the body
i'd have given up some of the guns in exchange for some components
Skidmark's (snicker)vest would look better in gray.
Great would not be bad. It would be a good contrast color against the vehicle.
BTW are you Canadian like formbx257?
nice young Frankenstein joke.
... and, if you fired either of those missiles, you would flame-broil everyone in the back of the vehicle!
Is OK am guess but Mean Dog was better ... Any way nice work !
I agree the Mean Dog was better. It was also bigger. It had a different role.
HoodedCobraCommander788 As kid I was think that Desert Fox is missed part of Mean Dog ...
where do the come up with these names .. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can I come over to your house and play with your toys?
do u have the 1986 sneekpeek
I don't have Sneak Peek complete yet.
Sorry not sorry can we call him brown pants 😂
lol funny ending
Thank you! I'm happy the gag worked.
thats why its always best to watch till the very end, just incase :)
This looks like the vamp mark 3. lol
You got a little something on your....Un... nevermind...🙀☠️
What? What do you mean??
Those wheels are really terrible looking. If only the slapped on some standard style hubcaps in desert sand color or even the orange color. This would be so fun to repaint in classic green or even proper desert camo colors
Heavy duty stinky diver back blast skidmark.
Who thought it was a good idea to call a Joe SKIDMARK 🤦🏻♂️😂
desert fox is a better toy than i remember. skid mark is a WORSE figure than i remember. i would maybe overlook some of the short comings if for not for that lame ass driver.
Skidmark heheh heh
never bothered with this vehicle. The wheels are a huge let down.
I don't understand why your wife kept bringing you chocolate in this video. Also why were you wearing Brien striped underwear. I'm so confused.
Do you not get what skidmark is slang for?
