So much learning opportunity abounds. Thanks for a content laden, comprehensive demonstration on how to rate a microwave's features and evaluate its power usage.
I'm glad it was helpful. There are several related videos on the channel. Please feel free to check them out and I would love to hear what you think in the comments. Thanks for watching!
Get an Inverter Microwave - they are awesome - they do run at a continuous reduced power according to the setting. I use the feature all the time to reheat small amounts and it doesn't overheat small portions of the food.
I appreciate your thorough explanation! needed them to remove 6 of my seats the day I bought our van. I would like to see a video on your tv installation if possible.
Katy, thanks, I appreciate the sub. Out of curiosity, can you point me to the video that Matty Van Halen made that pointed you to my channel, I'm curious, thanks!
Do you have a full van tour video? We just got a Ford transit passenger 148" medium room van we are converting to a camper while keeping the 2nd row seats. Would love to see your full set up to see how you have done it! :) Thanks! Love the amount of details in your videos!
I'm slowing working on making that video. I've got several other Transit camper videos on the channel (see the pinned comment of this video for the playlist). I hope to have the full van tour done in a few months, hopefully if you're subscribed you'll see it when it goes live. I'm glad you got a similar Transit, I think you'll be very happy with it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing . Dude, this video clip was as intense as college Calculus!!!!! I seriously came away with the feeling RUN FOR UR LIFE!!! Also, I still don't know if I can have a microwave in my SUV CAMPER or not . Obviously u r a electrical engineer & these things are your 2nd nature . As a artsy, fartsy viewer, perhaps embrace the 5W's. Also, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, share with us vital info, such as how to run a microwave in your SUV & RV. Thanks so much. Blake
Nice what size fuse do you have on inverter... I have 2x 110 agm batteries and a 2000watt inverter... But alarm goes of on inverter for low battery..... How can i solve this problem... Thanks...
Awesome vid! Am looking at this exact microwave and wondering what it would take to actually use it in my van. :) I'm curious... did you upgrade to two AGM deep cycle batteries and how does that work? Do you have solar panels? Thanks!
thank you good vid , my question is if the inverter is running off the car battery while the engine is on how long (time wise) would this last? thank you
excellent video, exactly what i was looking for. One question though, since we normally run microwave for a short period of time, can we start the car, and run microwave directly(via inverter, bypassing batteries) ?
There is so much to learn before I do van life. Thank you so much Mr. Lum for sharing your knowledge! Let me ask a question. I don't have an inverter yet because I haven't bought my van yet, but I do have a jackery1000. Could I use a microwave like this with it for a few minutes?
I have the same Renogy power meter in my Class B. What size fuse or circuit breaker do you use? I've got my inverter wired directly to the battery, which bypasses the meter. I'd think I'd need at least 100 amp fuse, but just wondering if that is too high a potential current in case of a short circuit (which I had this past week and almost burner down the van!). Thanks for the video!
I run a fridge 24/7 and a microwave along with other stuff with no problem on a 320 watts panels with 250 amps lithium batteries and a 3000 watts pure sine wave inverter.
Great to know! You have two 125 amp lithium batteries? And which make/model microwave please? Thank you. I've been looking at getting a 330 watt solar panel... so I think I could do this!
It’s a12v system with a WZRELB RBP300012 3000W 12V 110~120V Pure Sine Wave inverter , the panels and controller are rich solar brand and the batteries are 2 100 amps and 1 50 amps Miady brand You can get everything on Amazon As far as the microwave is a standard cheap 50 dollar from Walmart. I hope this info helps
I have a 100ah and it worked for a little while, couple of weeks, but the voltage drops to low to accommodate the 1500w inverter, so the thing shuts off. Might have to get 200ah worth of storage
Name your channel "Lum & behold" 😊 Minivan setup currently has no room or need for a microwave. Rear section is a "bouch" (bed/couch) that stores 6 elongated milk crates for clothes etc & sleeps me & a cute 55lb security alarm dog. I don't mind pop top and eat spaghettios for now. Nor does she. Eventually a bigger van with solar panels on too to run tv, xbox and cooler/fridge Rare times I'd need a microwave I could use a minimart or truck stop. From cold to hot to warm when it's in the truck...good enough. I live in a van, luxury isn't a necessity. Ability to travel with a basic mini hotel room & access a gym shower 🚿 is mind boggling when you do the minor math. One hotel room is my entire week with food!
No, I left the ceiling alone. I have a video showing how to remove the ceiling headliner and you'll see what it looks like underneath. Thanks for watching!
When you drive your car battery automatically recharges so you can hook the other battery up so that when your car battery is full it charges the other battery you can also use solar panels or if your just wanting to camp and not live in it just charge it at home
Hi chris, im having a problem with my set up, i just recently bought my 700 watts microwave and it’s shutting off after 2 seconds while im using a 3000watts inverter thru my van main battery(12v 95Ah 800A) what might be the problem? Thanks in advance
Hey, not to butt in, but...many microwaves don't like modified sine-wave inverters. It scrambles their brains. Also, there may be a brief surge current that is above your inverter's rating. Additionally, the voltage on your battery may sag (in the first couple of seconds before rebounding) enough to tell the microwave to shut down. Solution? Think like Palpatine. There is never enough power. Clean power that is. Get a pure sine wave inverter that can handle 24, or 48 volts (12-volt systems are very limiting power-wise, while 24 is easy to do with two 12-volt batteries and 48 is easy to do with four 12-volt batteries. 24 and 48-volt systems are also a lot easier and cheaper to assemble ( and now come in all-in-one packages that really save you money and time)) and be able to handle at least twice the surge power of all your appliances (like, say you were to start them all at the same time). In my case, my inverter can handle 5,000 watts all day long and can surge to 10,000 watts in a pinch. This is for two refrigerators, a freezer, a microwave, and an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler deal), three computers, an ice maker, and a 60-inch monitor. I have 2,000 watts of panels on the roof and no electrical bills. I even have leftover power to condense water out of the air as a cool party trick. Remember - you can't have enough power and it all begins with the inverter. Good luck! Soon you'll be heating your supper with three hand-held hairdryers just because you can :).
In this video I was using a 100 A*hr Renogy AGM battery but it has subsequently died. I upgraded to a Battle Born lithium battery and have been very happy with it. It can run the microwave much better than the previous AGM battery.
Very good explanation. Small Van me too. I've experimented with different appliances and while the microwave I have a GE small inverter type is great the space it takes up is well too much lol. But electrically it works. I just can't talk myself into installing it. 500 watt heater is using 569 watts. Eggs for 1 min 50 seconds in micro is great but I'll use Nuwave induction and a pan. Takes less space. I have Ford Econoline. Thanks. Very good science. I enjoy discovering.
So popcorn is possible Oh boy I have 200 watts solar, one battery also but I just bought another atm from RENOGY (but I'm getting it through HOME depot) I have a 2000watt inverter Sonic compression HOPE this inverter runs a microwave
good Test, but just buy a cheap propane one burner to heat up water. I haven't owned a mircowave since i moved out of my moms back when i was 13. go figure. an USELESS appliance none the lest, thank you for doing the load test, at least we know a 2000 watt renogy is a good buy and AGM is OKAY it works, I've seen some LIFEPO battery's just cut power at 100 amps current on a 100AH 12v lifepo. They may last longer I guess, but in the real world how many people need that much power on daily basis. Your on the road, most of the time you will be charging the battery via the alternator. and if you do need to run a load like this just crank over the engine and have the alternator provide some of the excess energy into the system while you heat up your tea. It's only going to be like 5 minutes or gas burn, nothing really to crazy. Instead of paying 2000$ for a lifepo battery setup with 3000w solar and space taking up inside your home. A simple dual battery AGM setup with the inverter inside the glove box or under a seat might be better option and you can even get a small 100W panel and charger for the time you are not running the vehicle. I think a lot of people go overboard and buy so much solar and batteries and shit to live out of their car it almost seems stupid, you moved into a vehicle to go and see places not to watch movies and cook inside like your home, what's the point.

Hi Chris, I believe Panasonic make a microwave using inverter technology and the lower power settings are regulated.
I came here for a microwave unboxing. Exactly what I needed to know. How to unbox a microwave. 😬😉
So much learning opportunity abounds. Thanks for a content laden, comprehensive demonstration on how to rate a microwave's features and evaluate its power usage.
Exactly what I was looking for. Lower power setting doesn’t mean less watts being used while in use. Thank you for including this detail.
Excellent video, lots of information. Bought the same microwave based on your review.
Love your personality; it reminds of a super cool teacher! 😊
You are so detailed. I didn’t realize about input vs output thanks so much
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Yes, sad to realize a 700 w Bluetti won't be big enough. TFS
Thanks Christopher . You answered my question beautifully
Matty van Halen, a van life UA-camr, sent us over to watch this video, like, and subscribe to your channel. A great tip. Thanks for the information!

Very informative thanks, looks like I'll be staying with my portable gas stove.
Great video, honestly pal you did a great job here. Well done
Perfect video, exactly what I was looking for :)
You made a really good video with all the right information good job dude

Perfect. Similar setup i am looking into. Ty for the video.
Thank you for this review. I am definetely getting this microwave.

Great video and informal

Now that you've heated a cup of water; try a drip coffee maker.
A refrigerator, a microwave, and a TV playing Big Trouble in Little China, I’m set for a road trip, lol!
Indeed, what else could you possibly need 😊?
Stove has left the chat

Q: Is the vehicle charging system tied into your 'battery bank?' If not, why not?
Does starting the van engine offest the draw of the microwave?

Wow 👏
Is the fridge ac or dc? Thanks!
A regular 120v dorm fridge with freezer
Outside dimensions are: height 10 5/16" X width 17 13/16" X depth 13 5/8".
any microwave in reality always does its max power. lower settings just makes the no-power intervals bigger

how did you secure it down?
Whats needed to run a 500 wattwindow ac?
sir, you haven't uploaded the video of flat earth equations of motion.
Hi What size inverter?
So you would estimate 1 aH per minute of use?
I have my inverter hooked up to the vans main battery an just idle the van while I cook
What if you run the van?
man, cover up those terminals as soon as that inverter falls on top of that battery, we be like FRIED CHICKEN...
135 lithium maybe the very minimum 200 amp would be great Thankyou for the demo I am trying to the minimum install my self. Just for day trips
What about a hot plate?
Did you insulate ceiling?
No, I left the ceiling alone. I have a video showing how to remove the ceiling headliner and you'll see what it looks like underneath. Thanks for watching!
How do u recharge your battery?
When you drive your car battery automatically recharges so you can hook the other battery up so that when your car battery is full it charges the other battery you can also use solar panels or if your just wanting to camp and not live in it just charge it at home
Is your microwave plugged into your inverter?
Hi chris, im having a problem with my set up, i just recently bought my 700 watts microwave and it’s shutting off after 2 seconds while im using a 3000watts inverter thru my van main battery(12v 95Ah 800A) what might be the problem? Thanks in advance

@@thatguyweheard i really appreciate your time and effort. Ive ask five “UA-camRS” but non of them care to give an answer to my question.
information starting at 5:00 thank me later : )
These UA-cam ads are getting out of control
What battery are you using?
In this video I was using a 100 A*hr Renogy AGM battery but it has subsequently died. I upgraded to a Battle Born lithium battery and have been very happy with it. It can run the microwave much better than the previous AGM battery.
I ran out of time ,,,waiting on battery setup ....so I'll go check another ,bye bye
950 Watts (Input) is 80 Amps at 12Vdc you will shorten the battery life and more likely burn up the battery.
Looks yummy! Would be better in the microwave!
Very good explanation. Small Van me too. I've experimented with different appliances and while the microwave I have a GE small inverter type is great the space it takes up is well too much lol. They put the extra tape on to peeve people off...
Really it is there for shipping because the product has to ship from China or another far away place
One.
1000 W at 12 V is 120 amps.You've just damaged your battery.
So popcorn is possible
