Farmer right to tie up trespassers? Feat. Ayesha Hazarika & Charlie Rowley | Jeremy Vine

- A farmer from Lancashire is said to have trussed up two lads 'like rabbits' and taken them to the police station on his quad bike after they intruded on his land without permission.
One of the teens involved said he was "frightened to death" after the ordeal on Sunday.
The teenager claimed they'd entered the property innocently to pick up an electric bike they'd left there the day before.
But the farmer took matters into his own hands, hogtying the lads and delivering them to the nearest police station.
The police ended up arresting the farmer himself for false imprisonment and asault - NOT the lads - before releasing him without charge for the timebeing.

I'm with the farmer.
UK courts would disagree
@@MarkARhodie the farmer was DUMB

The police practically don't exist. What are people supposed to do? Fafo.
No doubt he probably called the police numerous times, to no avail. Entered the premises innocently 😂🤣yer right! People have had enough!
When I was living in the Caribbean a guy who was frequently breaking into and stealing from the homes of a group of local residents was eventually caught on site by them. They tied him to a chair, then went into a nearby room and loudly discussed what they planned to do with him. They made sure he heard when they ‘decided’ they would take him out to sea on a small boat, tied up and weighted, and drop him over the side. Then ‘decided’ they would give him a chance. They untied him and let him go with a stern warning that this would be his fate if he ever came back. He never did.
I love that💯
@@missmerrily4830 okay, but that's not just Trespass is it.
Shouldn’t be on his land
bet you were an "Angel" as a kid ....
If the police did their job and criminals were punished, people wouldn't have to take the law into their own hands.
Deserves a knighthood
Shouldn't have been on his land end of.
Good on the farmer - he has my absolute support - keep off private land our farmers don’t get enough support or respect
Someone has been watching too much "The Penguin" & "The Batman"😂😂😂😂
I used to ride motorbikes on farmers land when i was a kid but we took the time to make contact with the farmers and ask permission. You would be surprised how many farmers are actually happy to accommodate people having fun when they have the respect to ask and respect the farmers rules. We were allowed to ride the fields for a a few months after the harvest was completed and before the new seed was sowed and we stayed away from any field that had livestock.
I now own my own land and im happy to allow people access who are nice enough to ask and show respect. Unfortunately that never happens and people to trespass and cause damage and leave sh*t and rubish.
I understand that the farmer ties them up, and such an act can easily scare someone into never going back there place again.
But putting them on a quad like that without any kind of fastening could have ended very badly.
Yes love it. Why didn’t they call the police to get there bike back 🤔 maybe the bike was stolen and they were little s++ts dressed like ninjas well done to the farmer shame on the police
We need farmers we don't need criminals.
Trespass is not a crime in the UK. It's a Civil matter. We are not the USA.
Well done now make a relevant comment 😂
@@WE-qs7uf the relevance is - he assaulted the kids and kidnapped them and then was DUMB enough to take them hog tied to the police demonstrating his criminal acts against the kids. The idiot was under the mistaken impression that he was defending himself against crime. That could only be relevant in a country where Trespass is a crime - it is not in the UK. Is that enough relevance for you - fool. BTW it's not that I am personally on the side of the kids, as I'm sure they were tearing his land up in pursuit of their fun - I just wouldn't have thought it prudent to then parade your vigilante actions in front of the Police.
So you ok if someone walks through your garden.
@@paulcollins5586 nor assault and kidnap
@@paulcollins5586 when someone is on your property (not committing an actual crime) you tell them to leave if they refuse then it becomes aggravated and you can you can call the police to if necessary forcibly remove them or if the police don't respond soon enough and they start being threatening then it's game on, just need to understand the limits mate OR you end up on the wrong side of the law. If you want OUR law changing then campaign for that change. Personally, if i was an American living in USA with their laws, then you'd better move your ass.
i used to climb trees , climb on factory roofs , run through peoples gardens as a dare ..knock on the front door and run ..when i was 12 to 15 years of age ..we all did it ..Boys unless you were a blue eyed angel ..and farms well when a farmer owns 20 to 30 acres of land ..basically swallowing up the countryside by making it all private ..its going to happen
Done it all as well 😂😂😂
Loved a good knock a door run!! Old glass milk bottles attached to their door handles ready for when the opened the door lol.
Of course wouldn't say it's acceptable now but anything for a thrill as a child
i use to play in fields when i was 13 years old that was farmland ..one field out of about 20 owned by the same farmer with rolls of Hay ..you could just walk through the gate ..i think many kids would do the same ..
Unfortunately many kids today think it's funny to set the hay bales on fire.
He’s lucky he didn’t cause any injuries to them because they would have the right to sue him. He put them in danger plonking them on the vehicle like that. I don’t have a problem with him tying them up and calling the police.
I know one of them. He has a broken arm.
@@lorraine.bernardettehoole7743 Now that is interesting. I wonder if he will sue him. It’s a lot of effort to sue someone and oftentimes takes a lot of money and there’s no guarantee that it’s even worth it. The teenagers did do something wrong but two wrongs do not make one right.
@@lorraine.bernardettehoole7743 stay off peoples property then, simple.
@@paddydoyle4234 I couldn't agree more
Tress-passing on a farm is not a crime
Yes it is
So if someone was trespassing at your house it wouldn't be a crime? 🤔
What would the police have done….Nothing. So he was doing their job for free. It was real value for money for the taxpayer.
Its hilarious totally cracked me up.
Ayesha has lost so much weight. Good for her 😊
It wasn't the farmer that did it IT WAS SUPERMAN 🦸🏻
In the UK trespassing isn't a criminal offence its a civil offence. No excuse for the actions of the farmer
You are wrong. If you climb over gates or fences then it's aggravated trespass which is a criminal offence. And riding motorbikes across fields is criminal damage. Most people are ignorant and think that a field full of just grass is empty but they don't realise that grass is growing to be cut for hay which feeds the farm animals.
@kieranb7047 its only aggravated trespass if the accused intends to intimidate someone or deter them from carrying out an activity, intends to obstruct that activity or disrupt that activity. Gates nor fences factor into it at all. Grass can be cut for hay or silage but for all you know they could of been riding on a farm track. Regardless hog tieing them and strapping them to the side of a quad isn't reasonable, force or otherwise.
@@ricardosmythe2548 everything you have just listed is subjective and is down to the land owners discretion. I own land and it's private and fenced off. If someone is on my land then the only reason they are there in my mind Is to steal or cause harm and damage so as soon as I see someone, I'm instantly stressed and intimidated.
You don't know what the lads were actually doing on the land and what the farmer was having to deal with but I have enough experience to know that the police will never show up when called and when I ask people to leave, majority of the time they get nasty because they believe they are entitled to go wherever they want and dont like being held responsible for their actions. so dealing with the situation yourself to protect yourself and your property is 100% justified in my opinion.
I lose hope for humanity when there are people like you who would rather argue in defence of people who wouldn't be in the nasty situation if they were not acting like selfish dickheads in the first place.
@@kieranb7047 if your in fear for your life your within your rights to do what you need to do with reasonable force to defend yourself however for aggravated trespass to be claimed its the intent of the offender that is the overbearing factor not your perception. I don't necessarily agree with that but that is the law. Staying within it and saying the right words to justify your actions is key to retaining your freedom in a situation like this. Again hog tieing them and strapping them to the side of a quad is a very hard sell to the cps or a jury if your trying to claim your innocence. I appreciate your frustration and fighting for your click but it is what it is.
@@ricardosmythe2548 that's not true. If you request a trespasser to leave your property and they refuse then it immediately becomes aggravated trespass as I cant carry on anything I'm doing on my land with someone there in case they get hurt. So they are instantly stopping me from carrying out my legal activities. Also if they have a vehicle with them on the land then that is instantly covered under the new pcsac law where a trespasser can be arrested and have their vehicle removed. The law changed massively in 2022 to deal with travellers and all it takes now is a landowner to state that they feel intimidated and uncomfortable with the person/people who are trespassing on their land and the police can take action. But it's made no difference as the police don't bother responding.
I do understand your point tho about the hog tying. But we have no idea what the farmer has been dealing with and for how long he has been dealing with it lawfully with no help or the police taking it seriously before he finally snapped. I would use logic and say he's probably just a very hard working man who has been pushed too far and let down too many times by the police and society.
I see a massive failure in the police system and modern parenting that's caused this outcome.
I was a nob at times when I was a teenager but if I did something I wasn't supposed to do or I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be and got caught, I got taken back to my parents who then punished me for my actions and they were embarrassed. I learned the consequences of my own actions and learned to think before I acted dumb again. We are missing that from modern day society! But these lads are alive and unharmed and they will most likely think before doing anything in future so I see that as a massive positive.
It sounded like they just went on there for their bike, or to walk through, not really sure!
Either way, this is well OTT, i want to know how he got to tie them both up?
Was the other one just waiting to make it easy for the farmer or what?? stupid!
Also i do not like farmers, cruel people by nature, in my opinion!!
As a farmer, lol. No food for you.

I don't like people who come in the countryside and think they can do what they want, stealing or damaging other people's property and think it's okay to let their dogs run loose and chase sheep and other animals.
