Javagal Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple - Unexplored Hoysala Temples of Karnataka | Steps Together

- Javagal Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple is one among the hundreds of Hoysala temples of Karnataka which is largely unexplored by tourists and ignored by the government.
While Chennakesava Temple at Belur and Hoysaleswara temple at Halebidu are well known for their unmatchable architecture equally beautiful Hoysala temple at Javagal gets much less popularity even though its proximity to the famous tourist spot Chikmagalur.
Javagal is 215 km from Bengaluru
59 km from Tiptur
12 km from Halebeedu
38 km from Chikmagalur
The first thing that comes to our mind when one hears the name Javagal is former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath.
Even though Srinath was raised in Mysore, this is the village from where his family originally hails.
The small village of Javagal was once famous for its commerce activities during the reign of a Hoysala King named Vira Someshwara.
The Lakshminarasimha temple at Javagal is an example of the mid-13th century Hoysala architecture.
Unlike other Hoysala temples, this Lakshminarasimha Temple of Javagal doesn’t have elephant balustrades (parapets) on either side of the steps leading to the temple. Instead, there are 2 of them outside the entrance to the whole complex.
Hoysalas ruled the southern Deccan from 1026 to 1343 AD. King Vira Someshwara was the 9th of the 12 kings of the Hoysala dynasty that ruled.
This 770 years old temple was built in 1250 A.D. by the Hoysala Empire King Vira Someshwara.
Entry to the temple is through a Mahadwara i.e. a high compound wall that was built during the Vijayanagar era.
The main deity of this temple is Vishnu in the form of Sridhara. Sridhara means ‘consort of Lakshmi’.
It is a trikuta temple i.e., it has three shrines of the usual type built on an elevated platform. The central shrine which houses Vishnu as Sridhara has a shikhara (tower) other two shrines have Venugopala and Lakshminarasimha.

Hello Ranjani and Thilak, I absolutely loved and enjoyed watching this video of a temple I did not even knew existed. As a lover of history, what I liked even more was the little bits of knowledge your video provided about the architectural style of the temple and the Hoysala kingdom. Can you imagine if students are shown such videos instead of reading boring textbooks, our future generations would not just learn history but admire and work towards preserving our stunningly beautiful temples and palaces. I don’t know when we as a nation will wake up and make efforts to preserve such beauty. Dhanyavadagalu and looking forward to watching your other videos.
Hi, Your awesome feedback made our day. Glad that you found our content useful. You are absolutely true about pale presentation of our history to the younger generation. We all can just hope for the root level changes in the educational approach. Thanks for watching.

Million thanks to these travel vedio blogger for bringing awareness to many of the viewers, such a masterpeice of ancient temple architecture, which was kept hidden & ignored by general public & the govts in powers. Hope due to such history loving bloggers, many more such ingonred gems get to see the lights of Sun & love of the people & broght back to their true glory. 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
Your wonderful feedback made our day. Thanks a lot!
Who ever it is, a great presentation, both video and commentary, with delightful background music, blessings and keep the spirit going
Time we need to preserve the great indian tradition and culture alive,
Pity most of the Indians go to Egypt to see the mummies but don't have a taste to enjoy the music in rock and sculpture
Let more videos educate the people and let us retain our great indian tradition and culture
God bless you
Many many thanks for the wonderful feedback.
Thank you for this

@@StepsTogether Welcome.
You could have taken some time show the details each and every sculpture in individual frames patiently......Better show them in 10 or 15 episodes.....Then viewers will enjoy by closely watching the beauty, skill of the sculptor, and recolecting the epic from which the sculptor adopted to carve it. Good luck.
Thanks for the valuable feedback. We will surely note the points.
