There are certainly disadvantages to Chinese ROM devices, however I just don't see any other way if you want a foldable at the moment. For example, I wanted to upgrade my Z Fold 3. The new Samsung doesn't feel like a good upgrade in terms of formfactor and battery. The OnePlus is better, but still, I personally think the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is the best option so I went with it. Now, if I wanted to go global, it's only sold in India and Indonesia. Indian version only comes in black (and I wanted white), oh and it also cost an arm and a leg, and nobody ships out of Indonesia. So yes, I picked up the Chinese version. Did I have to spend probably an extra 20-30 minutes setting it up to get some things to work (such as app logos on AOD)? Yes. Does it work perfectly after that? Also yes. So in between getting a worse device, paying way more and spending some time setting it up once? Yeah, I'll pick setting it up once.

Hi. Finally i have been able to pair my x100 ultra with a Samsung 7 watch ultra with your instructions. I downloaded samsung wearable app from the vivo store and upgrade the version from the Update check inside. Thanks for your help
I disagree. Having Google assistant mapped to the power button is one of the deal breakers. With the software button, you have to close the app, find the widget, ask Google, go back into the app (maybe even reload the multitasking you were on). This isn't an issue with a physical button as it just pops up on top of whatever you were already doing. Honestly, I never use Hey Google, I just use the physical button and pull up the keyboard as a shortcut to Google search. Super convenient.
He’s missed that from the video. He’s compared the google mic to the side button which as you say isn’t as smooth an experience. But most people will activate voice assistant with voice commands which isn’t possible.
@@tinyplanet_360 I absolutely agree, most people just say hey Google. But on Chinese Roms, you also can't press the side button to activate Google assistant.
Great video Mike, hopefully breaking down misinformation walls. As someone that has owned the Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro thanks to you, I can attest to the accuracy of this video.
Sorry, mate but your assessment is wrong. I am a Chinese phone lover, but cannot stand dealing with Chinese ROMs. It's not one thing, it's death by a thousand cuts. Maybe I could live without Android Auto, or easy watch connection, or maps history, all calender not always syncing... But it feels like a constant fight against my phone and anxiety on will it play nice or not and trying to kill that Chinese AI assistant that keeps popping up. Phones are made to be convenient, above all.
I've got the Open and have been eyeing the vivo for an upgrade. But it doesn't seem like that big of one. Besides the battery (wireless and +1000mah and technically the fingerprint), there's not many differences, right? Would absolutely use your tech store if you were able to convince me:)
Hi Mike, great video and content as always, now that the Chinese rom phones , IE. honor magic V3 and Vivo c fold 3 pro have android auto, what features do we not get as opposed to the global rom devices? Your response will be greatly appreciated 👍🏾
I'm looking into chinese roms as I've never used one before. I used a lot of custom roms. The things that I don't know is : How bad is the data collection ? are there spyware stuff ? are there app running without my permission ? is it possible to uninstall all the bloatware ? (I know google does the same and I don't trust google too.) Does play integrity works ? The issue is that the devices that are interesting (EX: Vivo X200 pro mini) has no unlockable bootloader so once you have Origin OS you're stuck with it. Also is it possible to unblock 4G B20 ? as it's massively used where I live. Otherwise your video answered quiet nicely my other questions :) unfortunately I can't find the google pay alternative you mention... maybe it's US only :(
My other question... I'm a medical laser technician, my job requires my phones to have wifi calling available because most hospitals dont have cellular signal in the OR wings. Do any of these Chinese devices have WiFi calling that works in the US? I know... Very specific. But Verizon and WiFi calling are a must and therefore deal breakers if not available.
Wifi calling works fine. None of these phones will work with verizon. Verizon will not allow an IMEI of a phone not on their compatible list to be added to their database. So phone and text will not work.
@@supe32no. It will NOT work. They will not allow an IMEI from a phone not in their database to be added to their network. So calling and text won't work. I tried, had to switch to t mobile .
I bought the same phone end of may. No issues. Android auto is not important to me, I have a Tesla. All apps work, including banking, security and notifications. Only to get notifications on the always-on-display I needed to follow a workaround from Reddit. Even my wife bought the xfold, she ended her iPhone history and will very likely not go back. Once you get used to the big screen in combination with the superior camera you will love it❤
@@Agvd26-h9pI am talking about the little symbol that indicates there was a text message, a missed call, an email. On Chinese Rom it doesn't show a little symbol for an unread WhatsApp message by default. But a workaround can add it.
I am looking for my first foldable phone... And I'm thinking to buy from yours average dad store chinese rom one. So which one is better - Vivo X Fold 3 Pro or Honor Magic V3? 🤔 Camera on the phone is very important for me :)
Looking forward to seeing this, I want to get a Fold Phone.. not had one yet and the ones with Chinese ROMs seem to be pretty good from what I can see..
They come with alot of unremovable bloatware and ads and its made difficult to find the options to turn them off. ****Edit**** sorry I forgot to mention it was xiaomi and huawei specifically that were known for this. I do not know about the other brands
I have both the OPPO Find X7 Ultra and the Vivo X100 Ultra and I have yet to get one ad on either of them... As for the unremovable bloat, there's only 2 apps I can't remove on both of them.
@@Agvd26-h9p Nah, I'm not advertising China phones here, but those days are over. The only things that are a problem (and both can be easily fixed with a workaround) are Android Auto and WearOS watches. Don't care or use both of them. If you can live without those, every other thing will work just fine.
Vivo phones in the UK on thee at least has far better connectivity than any other phones, especially in rural locations. Band 20 is the most important factor in buying any phone. I have never had problems with NFC once set up can take 20 minutes. I am still not sold on using Android Auto. Just read your terms for you car. They take insane personal data in most cases.
Average Dad any chance in the future you would be able to setup trade-in program for Chinese ROM devices? I currently have a Vivo X Fold 2 in mint condition from last year. Love your channel!
I don't think it's fair to entirely dismiss the global version of the OPPO Find N3! Sure Vivo has better cameras, and Honor, and Xiaomi have thinner, but OPPO still has the best inner screen. And we still have the Find N4/ Open 2 coming first quarter of next year
Thank you again for such a great video!. Could you please check the new xiaomi s4 watch and tell us will it connect to a vivo phone with no issues, since it runs Hyper Os and not the Wear Os?
Thank you for the video. can I get the link to your Store? Do you ship to Africa? I am currently using Galaxy S23 Ultra and the camera is trash for me. over sharpening all over which always ruins the details of the photos. I want to upgrade to the Vivo X100 ultra. I was planning to say the X100 pro but it seems the X 10O ultra is far superior. I want to buy from you, but only if you Ship to Africa. Give me the link to your store.
Just moving from a Fold3 to a Vivo Xfold3 pro. It is a lot of work to make it work for me/learn Origin OS. Like to do it, but if you just want to have a working phone it might be easier to stay with Samsung ...
You can also just switch the launcher to Microsoft and get Swift Key for better keyboard. That way, when you swipe left, you still get News Section on Home screen, Copilot, Calendars etc. Just make sure you select Settings > More Settings > Allow default launcher to be changed. Think there may be some Samsung Style launchers too.
does global rom versions have the same issues? do you know if these work with MFA in the USA? Any issues with corporate security apps like Okta, Symantec VIP, Azure MFA, Google Authentication, Duo, etc?.. more business use cases vs home?
Thanks for your great videos! As a result I've bought the Vivo Xfold3 and I love it. It came set up with the Google play store and everything works perfectly. Just one very minor irritation - is there a way to get rid of the chinese characters on the qwerty keyboard?
My next smartphone will be a Chinese phone. I am tired of Samsung skimping on hardware components. However, I want to wait to have at least seven years of Android updates. If not, I am not sure if it is an option. Maybe there is a good custom ROM?
I've used the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Chinese model. It worked 99% as in the network worked just fine in city centres here in Ireland. However, it was pretty annoying when on the train in countryside between cities or town centres. I believe Chinese Xiaomi models skip 1 network 4G band (B20) on most if not all models. Oppo and Honor though throw in all bands on all/most models I believe. Vivo skips this band as well except for the top of the line flagship (ultra) and the folds/flips. My current devices are global Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Samsung S24 Ultra. Ludicrous prices here in EU 😅... Love 14 Ultra more.❤
@@Agvd26-h9p I didn't have problems with the Chinese rom to clarify, other than what I mentioned, the network when I was away from the city or town centre here in Ireland. I don't use Android auto so no issue there for me. Everything else worked like global roms. The network only struggled as B20 is the most common band here but I still had connection.
Speaking of Chinese roms. Do you have any thoughts on why they always seem to keep the more "fun" colours to China only models? Always seem to get more restricted colours here (Uk)
Does anyone know if any of these chinese phones work on Verizon in the US? I use foldables on my work line in which my company will only allow Verizon service.
Tonight I have to decide between my buying decision for s24 Ultra or the Vivo x100 Ultra !! Actually I was going for the find X7 Ultra black dual stitched leather one, but could not manage to region unlock that one😢😢😢 I am seriously confused between the trustworthy experience of one UI and its regular and stable security updates and the world class camera system of x100 ultra along with fun touch OS which is not so trustworthy as an Android skin 😢😢😢😢
@@elmhurstenglish5938 please tell me about something , are you receiving regular updates ?? Is the Android experience I mean the skin experience stable ?? Are there any laggings stuttering ??
Switched from S23U to Vivo x100 Pro CN Rom. I do miss the UI of samsung it's just good. No more chinese apps on my screen very fast to clean. Also the speaker is louder. The only drawback for me is not able to use other sms apps because notifications just wont come. Overall im quite happy with the switch.
You can change the launcher if you wanna try something different, like Microsoft or Nova. Just make sure you go into security settings > more security, and then allow default launcher to be changed. This means you also get news section working too if you swipe left on home.
Here's the problem with esim that I have. Right now I'm on ATT, but when I switch my sim card between my Chinese devices, ATT sends me a text saying this phone is compatible with their network. Now I know that it is, so I ignore that message. However with esim, they can control access to their network and if you have multiple phones, like I have switching out an esim to another phone can be a hassle vs just popping it out of one and placing it in another.
Hey AD, I could use your advice here. I want to try out my first foldable device and Im between the Vivo X3 fold regular and the Honor magic V2. Im in France and I could get the Vivo for 1077eur (12gb/256gb) from your web site or i can get right now the Honor for 1100 (16gb/512gb) directly from Honor France with warranty and global rom (due to the current summer sale they have). I dont have a car and never have used android auto. Having said that, which one would you pick? I'm worried about the resell value of a Chinese ROM device here in France, and I also like having the option of a stylus (even though the magic pen is not easy to get and it's pretty expensive)
@@AverageDadOfficial from your website, shipped to France that one is almost 1300eur. A bit out of the budget, also, in previous videos you mentioned how you think the regular 3 food is a better deal 😅

Ok question. What about Google Backup. I have a Vivo and there is no option to back up to Google. Does this mean when I get another phone. I won't be able to copy over apps and data from the Chinese room Vivo?
Thank you for the video, very helpful. I had a few questions, i am looking to get a Realme GT6 Chinese ROM with Google Play, do you know if it will still have chinese stuff on it like the news feed and browser always in chinese? This is after removing the chinese apps manually. Does Chinese ROMs get android and security updates in line with when they are released or does it happen a little later? I also have an option to buy one with a Russia ROM, been told it works like normal here in the UK with OTA and NFC without any russian writing. I have checked the bands for compatibility. Thank you everyone ❤
Thanks AD. If anyone owns an Honor Magic V3: can you kindly post is Wi Fi calling works in the UK. Also, can you set up the phone using google back up? Thank you
Hi! How were you able to download the CURVE app, is it the app he's talking about in the video where we can put our debit and credit cards in, and it uses NFC?
For the last couple of months, I've been using the Chinese ROM on my Xiaomi K70. Regrettably, it's lacking in various areas, especially when it comes to notifications and the absence of quick share. I believe this is peculiar to Xiaomi and their worst software in the planet: Hyperos. I wish you honestly speak about that. However I hear that Oppo and Vivo are bettet
I've got a Chinese Redmi K60 Ultra and notifications are a problem also the quickshare is also another silly problem. I've kept my Note 10+ and use both phones and my Note 10+ gets all the notifications with zero issues.
My vivo x fold 3 pro when recording 4k 60 stutters from the start and sometimes goes from 60 fps to under 60 for some reason, love this phone though, I was in charge of video and photos on my sister's baby shower and everyone was shocked at the quality, I was heavily thanked lol
I have the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro global version here in the USA on the AT&T network and it works flawlessly for me. I was loyal to Samsung from day one to the galaxy on up to the Fold 4. I was disappointed with the front narrow screen and with no improvement on the fold 6 I decided to go with the Vivo. I love it it, but I do have to say I love Samsung's software better, and I do miss the S-pen. Vivo is what Samsung should have been, but sadly Samsung got greedy and lazy.

My next phone hopefully the K80 Pro,thx for all the helpful info..
@williamwood1825 unfortunate because many of Verizons 4G and 5G bands are supported.
I bought my vivo fold 3 from average dad. My phone works great in USA on AT&T.
4G or 5G?
I currently have Verizon. Need to know if it'll work for them lol
5G of course
@@supe32no. It will NOT work. They will not allow an IMEI from a phone not in their database to be added to their network. So calling and text won't work. I tried, had to switch to t mobile .
@@williamwood1825 I appreciate your response thank you
New sub here!!! Absolutely love the channel and your unabashed candor!!! Great stuff!! Don’t change a thing!
Been using my vivo x fold 3 pro for about 6weeks now. It has a Chinese rom and iv had no problems. Android auto isn't important for me
Enlighten us @@Agvd26-h9p
I bought the same phone end of may. No issues. Android auto is not important to me, I have a Tesla. All apps work, including banking, security and notifications. Only to get notifications on the always-on-display I needed to follow a workaround from Reddit. Even my wife bought the xfold, she ended her iPhone history and will very likely not go back.
Once you get used to the big screen in combination with the superior camera you will love it❤
Anybody on here have a vivo x fold 3 global on verizon?
@@Agvd26-h9pI am talking about the little symbol that indicates there was a text message, a missed call, an email. On Chinese Rom it doesn't show a little symbol for an unread WhatsApp message by default. But a workaround can add it.
I have the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro Chinese ROM and android auto is working great on it now.
I've been looking at getting the Vivo S19 Pro. Maybe you could do a review on this and also some lower price Chinese phones 😊
There are tons on youtube,,, weird comment
Like really really weird😅@@AverageDadOfficial
If you double tap the power button you get a Chinese NFC wallet. Does that work if set up or can be replaced?
@@elmhurstenglish5938 Hi I use Google pay, under more conections, NFC set Google pay as default. I usually uninstall the native wallet so can't reset
Average Dad any chance in the future you would be able to setup trade-in program for Chinese ROM devices? I currently have a Vivo X Fold 2 in mint condition from last year. Love your channel!
That is a major probleem mate. We need handsfree google assistance. That is the main reason why I sell my s24 ultra.
Hey BTW I watched some videos and I see what you mean about fun touch
I don't think it's fair to entirely dismiss the global version of the OPPO Find N3! Sure Vivo has better cameras, and Honor, and Xiaomi have thinner, but OPPO still has the best inner screen. And we still have the Find N4/ Open 2 coming first quarter of next year
Thank you again for such a great video!. Could you please check the new xiaomi s4 watch and tell us will it connect to a vivo phone with no issues, since it runs Hyper Os and not the Wear Os?
Great video as always mate ❤
thanks for the video buddy just catching up :D
Thanks for the visit
does all China rom phones not have wifi calling?
does GSuite / Google Workspace work?
What are the differences between normal Chinese ROM vs. Unlocked Chinese ROM?
Any issues with corporate security apps like Okta, Symantec VIP, Azure MFA, Google Authentication, Duo, etc?.. more business use cases vs home?
global versions work fine like any other android phone
Thanks for your great videos! As a result I've bought the Vivo Xfold3 and I love it. It came set up with the Google play store and everything works perfectly. Just one very minor irritation - is there a way to get rid of the chinese characters on the qwerty keyboard?
just download Gboard and make it default
Perfect, thanks a million - you've really helped me❤
My next smartphone will be a Chinese phone. I am tired of Samsung skimping on hardware components. However, I want to wait to have at least seven years of Android updates. If not, I am not sure if it is an option. Maybe there is a good custom ROM?
Have I missed the software comparison video?
No
I just saw trhe video and u say u cover the customs? I had to pay quite a some to get my phone from ADS...
That's the record of your 'travel' ???
Does anyone know if any of these chinese phones work on Verizon in the US? I use foldables on my work line in which my company will only allow Verizon service.
I'm on Verizon as well lol
No Magic V3 videos anymore? 😢
of course!
I have the x100 Ultra - I just change the launcher to Microsoft, keyboard to Swift Key, and is all good.

@@elmhurstenglish5938 Thank you will try it.
Does Chinese versions have Netflix hdr support

I am having issues with notifications and alarm apps. Any insights for Honor Magic V2?
Also for the oppo i get notification alerts and on the AOD but they never appear on the screen as they occur.
Ok question. What about Google Backup. I have a Vivo and there is no option to back up to Google. Does this mean when I get another phone. I won't be able to copy over apps and data from the Chinese room Vivo?

I had a few questions, i am looking to get a Realme GT6 Chinese ROM with Google Play, do you know if it will still have chinese stuff on it like the news feed and browser always in chinese? This is after removing the chinese apps manually.
Does Chinese ROMs get android and security updates in line with when they are released or does it happen a little later?
I also have an option to buy one with a Russia ROM, been told it works like normal here in the UK with OTA and NFC without any russian writing.
I have checked the bands for compatibility.

I've kept my Note 10+ and use both phones and my Note 10+ gets all the notifications with zero issues.
i have vivo x100 ultra, i have Netflix but when i screen mirror to my TV i only got the sound buy no picture, any advice please
I also forgot i had to leave spectrum mobile which is really good and cheap. I ended up with Tmobile probably double what i was paying.
