One thing to add is that apparently the Cybertron scene on Bumblebee was apparently made last minute since beforehand because Bumblebee was meant to be a prequel but then the last knight happened and re-shoots and it ended up being a reboot. Megatron was supposedly going to have 2 scenes, one Cybertron and in the post credits where is frozen in the ice at Sector 7.
Even Steven caple Jr said so himself its a reboot which is what he's aiming for, that explains unicron as a planet and optimus and bumblebee first arriving on earth
They really should have kept Travis Knight for future movies instead of replacing him. His designs are so much better than anything in Rise of the beasts.
No they arent. ROTB Arcee is 100% better than her 2018 design. Same with Bumblebee. Optimus is the only exception. Everyone else is new. Unless youre telling me Battletrap and Nightbird have bad designs.
@@mayhaps801 that's a fair point. I just feel like ROTB continued what Travis Knight did. I'm not sure why Wheeljack and Prime were changed, but I was happy with the look the Autobots had. Stratosphere was so much better than Jetfire in ROTF. He had personality and a design that was coherent.
That's the thing I do like the ROTB designs, but I feel like it's not always consistent with Travis Knights designs like Wheeljack, who's completely unrecognizable, and they try to blend in the Bayformers design which looks sometimes weird.
As a g1 er who originally grew up with the bay formers, I agree. I love seeing bayverse design elements still being used in the newer films. Like ROTB prime, it had bits of the og trilogy look like the face, truck eyebrows on the chest, silver hands, and energon blades and axe. I think ROTB prime is the best live action prime design because of the mix of g1 and bayverse deisgn elements
Bumble bee’s is better imo so much more colorful and filled out, to me rotb prime looks like someone grabbed him from the gut/abdomen and squeezed him so tight he’s now half dead, which is why his colors are now so desaturated and lifeless.

Yeah, that's why I didn't really mind Michael Bays redesigns. If other stories are allowed to change up the looks then I think Micheal should get a pass.
I still see where Bay was coming from, I always interpreted what he was saying as a literal 1:1 adaptation of all the G1 looks would look stupid as hell, which yeah, it would. Ultimately I see Knight's approach more as a natural evolution of what Bay established rather than the dramatic overhaul fans play it up as. That said, the first three Bay movies still have the superior transformations compared to Bumblebee or ROTB.
I think the reason mainly for the push against the Bay designs originally was because of one reason: we hadn't had any representation of the original designs or any of the 84 robots in mainstream media for over a decade. We had some cameos in Beast Wars back in the 90's, but RID and the Unicron Trilogy re-invented the characters in a lot of different ways. So when news broke that the designs were going to be drastically different, that stung a lot. Writing death threats about it was dumb as hell, though. Nowadays, people look back on the bay designs with a bit of nostalgia now because we have SO many G1 inspired designs and characterizations, almost to the point of oversaturation, but back then it felt like Hasbro was throwing names on designs at random so they could keep the trademark. (Which they were. Not complaining about it, I'm honestly indifferent to the random name usage.)

4:06 I love how michael bay thought that a movie about sentient blocky transforming robots that were made by a bunch of cybersquids from another planet to play dolls with needed to have “realistic” designs to “not scare away audiences”
I think the bayverse designs (particularly optimus) while a bit too complex at first, were readable as transforming from vehicles in the first three films. Then Age of Extinction happened and I felt that was way too much. You can barely tell he transformed from a truck. They look too smooth and human instead of alien and angular. It's the same problem I had with Iron Man's armor evolution.
I would have loved to see Travis Knight stay onboard and have him continue to direct the films that came out after Bumblebee. I'm not optimistic about the decision to cross over with GI Joe, and I don't really feel it's what anyone but Hasbro wanted. Wether it's the fandom or the general audience.
I adore the designs of Bumblebee and RotB (other than Wheeljack like wtf was that). They look so good and distinct. So much color. It’s sucks they cut the Bumblebee designs for Sunstreaker and Megatron! They were amazing.

I think the only good part about AoE is the cgi and the fact that the bots started to remodel themselves to look like humans. But still i prefer the designs in knightverse
We don’t get the current G1 designs if Bay doesn’t do what he was. They’d have been a lot lamer, a lot less cool. I get OG Transformers fans being upset-but as for me and the entire crop of kids the movies were being marketed for that really didn’t have a reference for what they “should” look like. Some are just objectively bad, but Bay deserves more respect for making the franchise relevant to my generation that never really would’ve looked twice at those old G1 approach
The old designs will always be awesome to me, but the more G1 looking live action designs are my favorite. They made them still look somewhat believable and made them all distinguishable. Even the slight changes in the ROTB designs still look great after now seeing them in 4k.
Bayverse design is indeed realistic, a huge planet that can still sustain life and existing for billion of years will make the species evolved till reaching the potential of being mechanical indicating it's evolution. Returning to it being a huge planet, bigger than Earth means they look differently when they were fleshes and less humanoid unlike G1 they are mostly inspired by human form which is really unrealistic interms of science evolution.
I still really agree with Bay, the blocky designs just don't look heroic at all, especially Optimus. Someone changed his superhero landing from the last movie with his design from the first trilogy and it just sold me on what the scene was supposed to be.
They don’t make it clear but Micheal Bay states that they all take on their “EndoSkeleton” form on Cybertron. Whether or not they have a distinct look on cybertron apart from their endoskeleton look is unknown to me. Maybe there’s a comic that explains it.
Freightliner FLT is also an american truck, but as you said it's cabover unlike Michael Bay's Peterbilt and Western Star trucks which have are long-nose trucks
The first 3 bay movies were some of the most pleasing movies for me. I love the G1 designs, they're cool and all, but when almost every iteration after G1 till the Bayverse tries to copy that G1 look, it gets old and seems like a recycled idea. The G1 theme in the newer movies are amazing I'm not gonna lie, but it was nice to see other designs being implemented onto the transformers. Michael Bay outdid himself with the robot designs, I feel like they represent how a transformer would actually look like with all the parts moving and shifting, and still being visible in robot mode. While the last 2 movies from Michael Bay were...a turn. The first 3 for me are the sweet spot. Even when the robots transform quickly, they still have enough detail to make it fluid (for example, Sentinel Prime running away after killing Ironhide).
Transformers Rise of the Beasts had the worst CGI and worst transformation in all of the Transformers movies. ROTB was kinda boring amd lame for the most part. No wonder why that movie didn't perform well. Bumblebee was better and the design of Optimus Prime was way better in that. Michael Bay's Transformers movies are still the most profitable movies and people watch them more than the latest two movies.
@@normanmccultureboy6492 Not really. The designs look identical, just not the exact same. ROTB Optimus resembles more of the Mark Yang concept art from the BBM that was used for Studio Series 38 Voyager figure, and the proportions are different; blocky and less slim than the sleek design of BBM Prime.
I would say that this new team for Bumblebee and ROTB is still getting a handle on transforming, and I’m hoping that they’ll be a lot better in the next movie. Same with the writing.
I'll be honest, as much as I appreciate the G1 designs from Bumblebee and ROTB, there's something quite magical about the Bay designs (at least the ones from the first movie) that capture a complex machine. Though by the third movie they end up looking WAY TOO HUMAN.
Honesty give the Michael bayes transformers more color and some change ups and theyd look excellent And as nice as the bumblee movie design look they look like good robots but kind of terrible transformers giving me more of a liquid transforming look from age of extinction drones
More color in Bayverse? You mean the reboot gives them more color cuz the Bayverse looked all grey and the Bumblebee designs don’t give them liquid look
Just gonna say it right now, the newer films are NOT tied to the bay films, despite what lorenzo says, the bee movie and rise of the beasts are a reboot. That is why optimus does not arrive as a proto form in bumblebee and is not a proto form on cybertron. Just wanted to clear this up
Problem is a cybertron movie with the bumble bee art style would be ridiculously expensive like, an easy 500-700 million dollar budget, and they would have to work on it for like 5-10 years so it could look as good as it needs to.
The 2nd part of the video that talks about transformations, helped realize what I was questioning about what was odd about the newer films. The designs and all that were there, but the transformations, yeah that was the issue for me. Just wish it had the believability that the first 3 Bay films of transformation had.
Well I don't have any complaints about transformations in tf movies because my first transformers content I've watched is tfp and all of us know how transformations are quick in there 😂
Micheal Bay's transformer movies were the first piece of Transformer media I was exposed to, so when I saw the G1 designs, I saw more charm to them compared to Bay's designs. So when I saw Bumblebee, I prefer watching it a million times over Bay's movies solely because of how Bee looks.
no matter what all live action movie Transformers designs are bayversed, all!!!, if you want to see real Transformers designs go see all animated movies those are not Bayverse designs
American trucks had flat fronts also European grills are mostly harazotal. Prime was based on the freight liner brand; In both movie and animated version.
Then there's Me who actually Loved the Original Look of 2007 Movie Megatron before the Redesign he'd end up with(still an amazing look) The original trilogy was my main bread and butter but im happy to see it persist. My complaint is that ive noticed with each film from 2007 onward the toys got lesser and lesser quality. I dont collect anymore but even by DOTM a Voyager Class Figure (Approx 20 USD at the Time) was the same size as a Deluxe figure from the 2007 Film(Approx 10 USD at the Time) I went down the toy isle for nostalgia last week and its all Brittle Unpainted Plastic not counting about the studio series ofc Thats no doubt more due to inflation but its been weird to watch from the starting point. The more Devout G1 Fans can complain all they want but the 2007 movie gave Transformers a Second Renaissance that is still being felt to this day. Many of fans who grew up watching & collecting from the start in the 80s would ride that wave on OG UA-cam(07/08) and catch those like myself up on all the lore, figures and such in past. Nostalgic obviously but it was an amazing time, first figure i got back then was the Deluxe Barricade. The Revenge of The Fallen Toyline was the Best, Figures like Demolisher really innovated to try and match the Michael bay designs. I nerded out a bit but tbh ive never been upset about one thing or another with Transformers. I dont keep up anymore with it havent even seen the beast wars movie, Im simply happy to remember my good times with the Franchise. IMO as long as others are getting to enjoy their own experiences with it then im happy as a Cybertronian Clam. We Pass On the Things We Love, Cheers to Fans Past, Present and Yet to Be. *All Hail Megatron*
Plastic prices just aren’t what they used to be 🤷♂️ But you should still check out the mainline, it’s great, and we are (finally) breaking away from G1 and are celebrating the entire franchise! We are getting Beast wars, Armada, Cybetron, Prime, Animated, and comics versions of characters finally getting updated, alongside the studio series of course, I recommend you go to BBTS so you could at least see a good chunk of modern figures to get a _real_ feel for how it’s going, since distribution is HORRENDOUS ever since Covid.
Personally, I love both g1 and bayverse designs. There are a lot of designs that I prefer from bayverse and the new rebooted universe designs. For me personally, most of the bayverse designs especially from the first trilogy is really cool and good but not great or perfect enough since some of those designs are a little bit busy which I do agree with the other Transformers fans. The only bayverse designs that are perfect and not busy and still look cool and unique are the Jazz and sideswipe designs.... Imo, I personally think that the perfect designs would be would be better if the designs look realistic, cool and unique like bayverse but also clean so its not too busy or messy to look at.... But hey, this is my opinion and my preference. I do also respect the other people opinion on the transformers designs. Doesnt matter if they love bayverse or g1, as long they are the transformers fans that still supporting transformers. That is good enough. Just dont be toxic to each other by arguing over the fictional stuff.... May everyone respect each other. Till all are one!
Also the transformers movies should keep some g1 desighns like wheeljackcs and also they needed better stories they should borrow from skybound and idw comics instead of the generic g1 desighns
I really hate to be that guy but, the rig that OP transforms into in ROTB is just an american flathead truck. Because it is a freightliner, and they only sell in the ADM, it is not a european style truck.
Not a truck expert, I only called it a European truck because they said Primes design in the film was based off a European truck in the behind the scenes vid so take that as you will.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think the intention was to have be set in the continuity as prequel films? At least that's what they kept saying in the behind the scenes footage.
@@WarpingFistwell they were Bumblebee was going to be a prequel but after The Last Knight failed it was changed into a reboot and further more Unicron isn’t the Earth in Rise Of The Beast unlike the Bayverse
Please stop trying to connect Bumblebee and ROTB to TF07. Bumblebee is a reboot. In ROTB, Unicron appears as a seperate being from Earth, which breaks continuity with TLK, sealing the nail in the coffin.
I know, but Gerald Blaise stated that they were influenced by a European truck when creating the truck form since thats what Prime was based on in the cartoon. Im guessing they used an American truck brand because world building wise it would make more sense.

And here I am, waiting for the Armada/Energon/Cybertron designs… 😔👉🏽👈🏽
Freightliner FLT is also an american truck, but as you said it's cabover unlike Michael Bay's Peterbilt and Western Star trucks which have are long-nose trucks
I prefer the Freightliner cabover semi truck
And now EVERYTHING is G1, and I'm getting a bit tired of it, from toys to cartoon series. But I don't really mind then in live action.
The video that I hoped you would do. Bless you for this video to make my day better 🙏
Michael Bay: G1 designs look stupid i want something more grounded.
Also Michael Bay: picks a yellow ambulance for Ratchet
That works
Yellow "military vehicle" passing as ambulance.
im glad he went with the yellow because it looks sick🔥
An yellowish green custom search and rescue ambulance which fits with ratchet as he is a medic.
And flames on a truck
You do know Prime has the exact design in Bbm and ROTB
@@normanmccultureboy6492
Not really. The designs look identical, just not the exact same. ROTB Optimus resembles more of the Mark Yang concept art from the BBM that was used for Studio Series 38 Voyager figure, and the proportions are different; blocky and less slim than the sleek design of BBM Prime.
@@normanmccultureboy6492 Nope.
They did some tweaks.
See both designs side by side and you'll see.
It looks worse in Rotb.
@@RealRahStar no it looks the same just with some earth truck parts
@@normanmccultureboy6492 it doesn't.
They made some tweaks that looks bad.
Especially his shoulders, neck, body, and face.
Some color changes too.
Really loving your transformers videos ❤❤❤❤❤
Keep going 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Honesty give the Michael bayes transformers more color and some change ups and theyd look excellent
And as nice as the bumblee movie design look they look like good robots but kind of terrible transformers giving me more of a liquid transforming look from age of extinction drones
More color in Bayverse? You mean the reboot gives them more color cuz the Bayverse looked all grey and the Bumblebee designs don’t give them liquid look
More color what you mean???🤨
@@freeamericanthinker558 yeah the Bayverse didn’t have MORE color the Rebootverse HAS more color Bayverse is just grey and black
The Bay movies and the new ones aren’t the same world
I happen to like all the transformers films regardless of good or bad.
Cybertronians have an organ that allows them to resize certain parts to a certain size for each transformation
A T-Cog?
Blitzwing and Wheeljack would like a word
still dont understand why Wheeljacks design was changed for Rise of the Beast while it was perfect in Bumblebee
Travis done a good job
Just gonna say it right now, the newer films are NOT tied to the bay films, despite what lorenzo says, the bee movie and rise of the beasts are a reboot. That is why optimus does not arrive as a proto form in bumblebee and is not a proto form on cybertron. Just wanted to clear this up
Let's be real Travis knight did not care about bumblebee
What makes you say that?
@@WarpingFist the fact that it's just the iron gaint with nothing interesting about it
Since the Crisis Animated Trilogy is ending you could do some Vid about Crisis on Infinite Earths.
I really like the simplified looks of these designs. the Bayverse designs feel a little too busy for me but that's my preferance
G1 designs look stupid in live action earth, they should stay as their Cybertron designs that is how you can have them both.
Mighty Eagle and Kratos: No
exactly my friend thats what ive bern telling everyone👏
@@normanmccultureboy6492 what the fuck are you saying
Problem is a cybertron movie with the bumble bee art style would be ridiculously expensive like, an easy 500-700 million dollar budget, and they would have to work on it for like 5-10 years so it could look as good as it needs to.
I agree with Michael Bay 10000%
For me the bbm movie desing are just lazy nostalgia pandering for g1 fans nothing else. But some of them slaps tho like soundwave
I feel the seekers and shockwave slap, soundwave looks too boxy in my opinion.
The 2nd part of the video that talks about transformations, helped realize what I was questioning about what was odd about the newer films. The designs and all that were there, but the transformations, yeah that was the issue for me. Just wish it had the believability that the first 3 Bay films of transformation had.
Well I don't have any complaints about transformations in tf movies because my first transformers content I've watched is tfp and all of us know how transformations are quick in there 😂
I still can't get over what they did to Wheeljack
He was already perfect on Bumblebee
Why change his appearance?
I really enjoy your second transformers video!!!!😃
Thx
Your welcome.😉👍
Micheal Bay's transformer movies were the first piece of Transformer media I was exposed to, so when I saw the G1 designs, I saw more charm to them compared to Bay's designs. So when I saw Bumblebee, I prefer watching it a million times over Bay's movies solely because of how Bee looks.
Even as a guy who grew up with the Bay films, I have always perfer the g1 designs!
Can you do a video on early development or unused concepts on Neon Genesis Evangelion
I think the bayformers designs were necessary for 2007, now post MCU we can embrace a more cartoonish look.
I don't think these movies are connected to the Bayverse
Can you do a video on Invincible or The Boys?
7:43 And then the transformation in age of extinction exists, it’s awful like why they did turn the ksi robots into Lego pieces?
no matter what all live action movie Transformers designs are bayversed, all!!!, if you want to see real Transformers designs go see all animated movies those are not Bayverse designs
Hello
6:26 ( likely because they needed to keep continuity ) For the last time this is reboot not prequel
You know bumblebee onwards is a reboot, right?
0:34 * 2007 *
I LOVE the Bayformers design
They actually look real and cool.
The G1 designs are classic, but look like fucking toys in live action
That’s the intention behind those designs The Transformers ARE toys they’re from a toy company
@@normanmccultureboy6492 But that does NOT work within the story itself. They are humanoid, mechanical life forms from space.
Not toys
@@spider-man500 so?
@@normanmccultureboy6492so they are goofy
@@mamamia7942 so what’s the problem with being goofy?
American trucks had flat fronts also European grills are mostly harazotal. Prime was based on the freight liner brand; In both movie and animated version.
The Cybertron scene was amazing i want a film like that. I'm fine with throwing out or ignoring Bayfomers. But Rise of the Beasts sucked.
Then there's Me who actually Loved the Original Look of 2007 Movie Megatron before the Redesign he'd end up with(still an amazing look)
The original trilogy was my main bread and butter but im happy to see it persist.
My complaint is that ive noticed with each film from 2007 onward the toys got lesser and lesser quality.
I dont collect anymore but even by DOTM a Voyager Class Figure (Approx 20 USD at the Time) was the same size as a Deluxe figure from the 2007 Film(Approx 10 USD at the Time)
I went down the toy isle for nostalgia last week and its all Brittle Unpainted Plastic not counting about the studio series ofc
Thats no doubt more due to inflation but its been weird to watch from the starting point.
I dont keep up anymore with it havent even seen the beast wars movie,
Im simply happy to remember my good times with the Franchise.
IMO as long as others are getting to enjoy their own experiences with it then im happy as a Cybertronian Clam.
We Pass On the Things We Love,
Cheers to Fans Past, Present and Yet to Be.
*All Hail Megatron*
Plastic prices just aren’t what they used to be 🤷♂️
But you should still check out the mainline, it’s great, and we are (finally) breaking away from G1 and are celebrating the entire franchise!
Make the unsued concepts of Power Rangers 2017
Also the transformers movies should keep some g1 desighns like wheeljackcs and also they needed better stories they should borrow from skybound and idw comics instead of the generic g1 desighns
I really hate to be that guy but, the rig that OP transforms into in ROTB is just an american flathead truck. Because it is a freightliner, and they only sell in the ADM, it is not a european style truck.
Not a truck expert, I only called it a European truck because they said Primes design in the film was based off a European truck in the behind the scenes vid so take that as you will.
@@WarpingFist No harm, no foul, I just want others to to know the right info.
Adam Wingard has said Michael Bay's Transformers designs are ugly.
I honestly hate these looks, I like the Mike Bay ones are the best, always been my favortive.
Bumblebee and rotb aren't part of the Michael bay continuity they are reboots set within their own universe
Freightliner is an american truck brand, not european
I know, but Gerald Blaise stated that they were influenced by a European truck when creating the truck form since thats what Prime was based on in the cartoon. Im guessing they used an American truck brand because world building wise it would make more sense.
G1 designs didn't work for live action.
I didn't;t mind the designs, they were descent, but the voices and the way they acted were what irked me. not to the point I wanted to hunt down the director, but it just felt off and turned me off to them.
