That booklet with maps instead of tiles looks like a lifesaver. I so hope they later make and sell them for all scenarios...

At 31:00 the shield is meant to be used after being damaged by an attack, not before drawing attack modifier card. So you could still use it after knowing you're being hit for 2.

I agree that the hidden batlle goalsmakes the game more interesting. It seems that the rules of interaction are all about keeping immersion. You only talk with your teammates as if you really were in this scenario where nothing can be finitely measured and you can only tell someone "close" or "far" or "small" or "large." And so, hiding the battle goals just adds to that because they seem like kinda quirks that you wouldn't necessarily be proud of and would actually want to hide--or are impulses that you/your character may not even be aware of! Makes for some fun story-telling. Love it!
for someone who always struggles to get coins it's a bit painful to see that you did the small attack+loot on the elite before the big attack and had Jenn miss out on a coin on the loot action after its death 😱😁

I have a question.
You say in the first round that you or Jen could have tapped your item. But shouldn't you have done that when it were your own turn to attack?
I remember it as when your turn is over it is too late and you can't tap it until next time it is your turn to attack
i don't remember the specifics of what happens, but items can be used at any time, unless they specifically say some sort of limiter on the card :)
Love the chroma key overlay. Suggestion, use a green screen "card" for the talking head pip so it looks like your overlay is a part of the play area.
yeah, i've thought about doing that, but i don't want to have to take it up and down to get to the games on the shelves! :)
Have you considered using dice as monster hp counters? Just tick damage down until they're dead? At low levels the counters work fine, but at higher levels it's SO much easier to track where the monster hps are. Too fiddly to constantly have to add all those tokens up when things have 20+ hps. Just curious if you've tried it.
i have seen folks do it, but never done it myself. tbh the tokens never seems to arduous to us, but we split the responsibilities for it (when it's my turn, i'm focusing on my cards and jen focuses on the monsters, for instance). but it is a cool idea no doubt

More on topic rules question, @40:27 are you sure that you receive XP for that action? The way I believe it was explained by Isaac on BGG was you had to be able to complete the action of the attack to get the XP. I'm not asking to be a no-it-all, genuine question as that's always confused me.
hmm, we've always played that you do everything you can do. also, isaac did watch this video and pointed out the goofs he saw (a couple of minor things) and didn't mention this.
i'll ask him for confirmation though :)

@@krhshurdler10 i should add, i do know you're right that you must be able to do at least one thing on the card: the question is, does an attack with no valid target count as doing a thing? i've sent isaac the ? and will let you know. however, another thing: even if the target-less attack doesn't count, there was another thing on that card i did do: put darkness in the air :)
okay, just heard back from isaac. yes, normally, you must do one thing from the card to get the experience, and an attack with no target isn't an action so wouldn't count. but in this case, the card says "may perform an attack", which means that you have completed the action of the card, which is you've given someone else the option to attack if they want. jen chose not to attack (she couldn't) but my job was done, i gave her the option, so i got the exp :)

I'm currently watching the video, but has this been released. Target shows it as available already even though I heard a July release. Anyone know
Check your local Target store. Mine says 3 available and went ahead and ordered for an in store pickup. Going to grab it in a few minutes and get it to the table this afternoon. Happy Day!
i believe the game has a one month Target (big chain department store) exclusive release, so it will be available more widely after that's over.

Thank you so much for that video. I actually wished that combat would be a lot more streamlined and, as you put it, it’s mostly regular Gloomhaven. I never thought original GH as complexe, but rather bothersome to manage. So much is going on between individual initiatives and AI, statuses, elements and all decks. This version doesn’t seem to fix what I don’t appreciate about the game in the first place, so I don’t necessarily see a reason to get it. It is crazy cheap for what you get though... 😅
