Will the EV motor fit / Electric Porsche 928 Project (Ep.14)

- Let's see if and how the EV motor might fit in the back of the 928. We'll need to create some space though, so it's time to getting some cutting tools and make some loud noises and smoke.

Fantastic! I can't believe how well that motor fits too
Are you as giddy with happiness as I am? Nah! I’m just a hopeless romantic. Thanks for sharing. It’s Saturday dawn over the endless mountains and a beautiful day has begun. Keep the good work brother!
I'll only be giddy with happiness when I can push an accelerator pedal and I see axles turning. Enjoy those mountains. The opposite end of the world but one day I hope to see them.
Most exciting video yet. The concept survives contact with reality!
Amazing project, thanks for sharing
Great video, great progress, didn't think I'd be looking so forward to each episode
Keep them coming and all the best with the conversion
Great work I’m hooked for more. Very excited to see this project.
This is really epic in every respect. Looking forward to watching the episodes to come and wishing you well Stu. I’m also looking forward to seeing it at a gig .😊
Another awesome video as usual 👍
Can’t wait to see it driving down the road.
such a great project. Can't wait to watch your progress.
Keep in mind there is one high voltage lead through the fire wall into the cabin. It is for the PTC heater.
Coming together Stu! It’d be interesting to see if the Tesla drive unit would have been harder or easier to fit.
If you still have the transaxle I’d be interested to see how much it weighs compared to the MG drive unit. I expect that you are right about needing to put stuff in the back to keep the weight distribution right.
I think Tesla SDU would be easier. It has greater clearance to the cross-member and good side clearances. Mount locating bushes a bit better placed too. And I wouldn't have to run it upside down (which probably poses more oil lube issues for the Tesla motor). So Tesla power still an option if I screw up the MG plan for whatever reason.
@@inCARnationAustralia Hey Stu. While not helpful to you now, if you could borrow a drive unit and hold it up in place to show how it fits might make some interesting viewing for the channel - ie before there is an MG unit taking up the space.
Full sun.....Protect your solar panel, with a hat!😊
Good advice
Love the slipknot shirt stu!
Thanks! Somebody noticed. I inherited it from my son.
@inCARnationAustralia good score!
Loving the series stu, hope everything goes well with it. One of my favourite UA-cam channels 👍
Hey thanks. It's going to take some time and I lose sleep fretting about possible points of failure.
Musically I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of nu metal except maybe Parkway Drive.
Radiohead, Muse or ZPZ (Zappa) are more my preference. You'll never catch me wearing a KISS T-shirt
@inCARnationAustralia stay positive and good things will happen! Look forward to seeing it all unfold - if you ever want to review a kia cerato gt, you are welcome to review mine (I'm in sydney)
@@leeroyjenkins7141 Cerato GT would be fun. They're good cars. What we've found is viewers relate better to cars they can afford. So the McLaren gets fewer views than a Renault Clio. Thanks for offering.
How will changing the angle of the motor and diff affect the oil pump? I understand that when the orientation a Tesla motor is changed it needs changes to the oil pump.
Good question. Unlike the Tesla motor, the simple MG motor doesn't have one. It's just a splash diff arrangement with just over a litre of gear oil. We will pull it apart for a look to check but not anticipating any dramas. Except for swapping location of breather and drain plug.
You could probably sell the battery box - you might get $200AUD for it.
If you mean just the MG's aluminium battery case, yeah it might be worth $200 just as scrap. But as far as the batteries go, that'd be a good deal for somebody. The CATL batteries are available to buy online. They're AU$1000 each. And did I mention there are 18 of them. Yes, $18k. And that's just the cells, before you add the HV connectors, the BMS, the cooling system, design and build the box.
@@inCARnationAustraliai got $67 from the recyclers for the battery case.
@@inCARnationAustralia I meant the 928's battery box!
@@AndyD070568 bear in mind that someone in the past had cut that battery box shorter. I doubt that it'd sell. Maybe the lid is worth something.
