Disassembled with one hand while filming with the other. Pretty impressive. I’m sure there’s never been a bra this man couldn’t unhook in his sleep. But seriously nice video and thanks for the help.
THIS video saved me $200+... (replaced whole unit - swapped over the bulbs.. good to go in less than an hour) so yeah THANK YOU!!! (TIP: if you have a small extender for a 11MM socket - it makes getting the second upper hidden nut way easier to deal with)
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. It would have taken me a couple of hours to figure out how to get to the back of the tail light.
One thing to note is for the 2013 and 2014 model years, the tail light and break light bulbs were “upgraded” to LED strips. This means that if a LED strip fails (like what happened on my 2013), the whole assembly has to be replaced, unless there is another option I am unaware of. I just replaced the right side assembly on mine just because it seemed to be the easiest. Very helpful video.
If you have a 2008 XC90 Forget about pulling the wire harnesses apart. Just remove the base carpet piece that the vertical carpet piece. No need to remove the exterior body section either. Then the two bolts
After 2014, you're screwed. You have to pull the rear wheel arches, drop the bumper, and pull the rear inner panels. Good luck. It's gonna take a lot more than 3 minutes
Man I was struggling to get it off because found instructions from manual to open only one bolt to get this done. Found your video and the tip to open the second bolt too and all was easy after that :) Thanks!
🤔Want to put the older style 2005 taillights in a 2008? Is it a direct fit plug & play or do I need the upper portion of the lights? UPDATE..!👌🏾 It was plug and play. The only difference was the older taillights harness wouldn’t work for the rear fog light. Other than that was easy! BUT you’ll need the upper rear reflectors for a flush fit which I had as well.. if not you it’s not a perfect fit(need to trim a lil here and there). I bought all for both sides for the price of a one factory taillight!
I think you're good to go since I believe its only the exterior design where the reverse lights are which has been restyled from circular to square-ish look. But you should be good to swap out
@@nabeeljacksonrhoda6480 I did it a few days ago and you’re right it was plug and play. The only difference was the older taillights harness wouldn’t work for the rear fog light. If I change the 2005 lights(round light) with 2007(square lights on reverse) lights will fit? Some people say that I need the wires as well.Is that true?
Good explaination Rome but a little frustrating when the camera was not on what you were talking about. It got me through a painful job - compaired to other cars.
Please don't do this so carelessly and with one hand. Don't hold the assembly by the wire with the full weight of the assembly hanging on the wire/connection. You break these PLASTIC clips and you're gonna be spending hundreds for whole replacement assemblies... (10mm used to remove long screw bolt - leave it hand-tight for the next time and you won't need a tool.)
My lead tech told me that's gonna be a bitch to change found your video and yeah just about 3 minutes and I had that changed and a tag light too thanks broham keep up the great work

hi there, have you replaced the led circuit? mines ones the day led light stopped working, so I may have to replace the whole unit
Hey thanks for the tip, i was struggling so much with my wrench. The 7 seaters seatbelt is on the way so its pretty hard to get to.
Thanks, my 12 year old just did this for me based on your video. Only took 10 mins to change one of the bulbs which is all I needed to do this time.

You are correct.... I have a 2009..... No need to disturb the plugs or the harness...at least, not for simple bulb replacement. (Love my V8!)
3 minutes and one hand . . thanks for that buddy. 💪
It took me more then 3 minutes but without your video it would have cost me a trip to the dealer $$$

Ah! Progress is all about evolution my friend..... Unfortunately, many manufacturers have yet to accept the theory.

For the record: the weird bolts* @ [00:45] are 10mm.
*Specialty cap nuts? 🤷♂️

What is the wrench size you used to remove the inner bolts? Is it 13mm?
10mm
Clear, simple and complete. Great how to video
The top bolt on my 2007 wont come off. It just spins and doesnt release. Any suggestions???
Does anyone have instructions how to do this on a 2018 XC90? Very different setup.
What size wrench ?
11mm worked for me
10 brah
My 06 xc90 has the centre or third brake light not working.. Got an assist for that one?
This you have under the glace, what is it?
Excellent video, with one hand and filming !! Like the comment of Damian Griffin lol
If I change the 2005 lights(round light) with 2007(square lights on reverse) lights will fit? Some people say that I need the wires as well.Is that true?
Did you find something out?
I wanted to know the same. I have 2006
Thanks for the help. Looks Simple. Now I can change the bulbs.
Appreciate the video but you don't have to disconnect the whole housing you have enough room to turn it counter clockwise to pull the bulb socket
If i were to install 2012 LED taillamp to my 2008 Xc90
Is it plug n play?
no
Yo I'm still wondering this
Probably not plug'n'play, but it can be done and it will work.
...up to 2014. I guess I'm out of luck sound the 2018 is set up different.
Very easy, thanks!
10 mil?
Great video, thank you!
Well done .
Your next job....working in an F1 Pit Crew!
Thank you that was a great help.
Thank you so much very helpful
Excellent instruction
except for telling the size of the wrench !!!!1
Good explaination Rome but a little frustrating when the camera was not on what you were talking about. It got me through a painful job - compaired to other cars.
Thanks mate!!
wrench size would be nice
10mm😉…. He did all the work for us we can a least try a few sizes, just grab a 10mm & a 11mm to be 100% accurate.🐰💎
Thanks for the video
Good lord ive never taken my entire assembly off my xc90 to change a darn brake bulb.
How else can you change the brake lights out?
