So incredibly talented..... I love the small streak of danger that he has. He's vulnerable, yet mysterious. I also love John Gallegher as Moritz but Blake really impressed me. Also, does anyone else think that he looks like a teenager, not 28??? so cute
I saw this in Chicago and Im a huge Swing Awakening fan AND a huge LOST fan and I couldn't miss the chance to stage door and talk to him about Lost. GHe was very cool about it:)
Blake is a brilliant actor. I saw him a bunch of times as well as john and gerard. Blake, while his voice is just alright, really gave the character a sense of reality when he was there. He was always experimenting with just being in the moment. Like a real actor.
yes blake adds a dimension of insanity to moritz, but JGJ is by far the best moritz, his intensity, facial expressions and overall portrayal of moritz's depressed state combined with his amazing voice definitely overshadows blake.
Blake Bashoff's interpretation of Moritz is perfection. His portrayal reflects the character in the play. Moritz is emotional to the point of losing control.
here's the lyrics if its comes handy to anybody Awful sweet to be a little butterfly Just wingin' over things and nothing deep inside Nothing goin', goin' wild in you, you know You're slowin' by the riverside A-floatin' high and blue Or maybe cool to be a little summer wind Like once through everything and then away again With the taste of dust in your mouth all day but no need to know Like sadness You just sail away 'cause ya' know I don't do sadness Not even a little bit Just don't need it in my life Don't want any part of it I don't do sadness Hey, I've done my time, Lookin' back on it all And it blows my mind I don't do sadness So been there, Don't do sadness Just don't care
I was lucky enough to have been in NYC for auditions and caught this show twice, once with JGJ playing the role, and once with Blake, and I have to agree that they both play the roles differently. I personally like JGJ better but that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that Blake wasn't amazing, cause he was! I hope to catch this show again while it's on tour, it's definitely one of my favorites, and I've seen/been in allot of them.
MY FAVORITE MORITZ!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been searching for him without remembering his name (til now!). He was theMoritz when i saw Spring Awakening a couple weekends ago in Cleveland.
I was there too. I thought Chase did an amazing job. I really grabbed onto the character through him. Say 'hell yeah' for the U/S's of the world. They deserve tons of credit.
I swear to go i just die every time i hear him he is such a good Mortiz like really good and his face and his hair and the wa act just gives me chills he his great!
Well, if that's true it isn't right, but then again, the understudies do a fantastic job in their own right. I saw the Saturday matinee so sort of expected some understudies. I was still blown away by their performances.
Have you seen him live? He was brilliant! I mean, I have an enormous amount of respect for jgj for oringinating the role, but Blake really made it his own. His "So dark" monologue after this scene was incredible!
Obviously John Gallagher Jr is the original and the best, but Blake Bashoff is really quite brilliant. For me, he is the only Moritz who can come close to JGJ.
I saw him as Moritz on Broadway the first week he did it -- and he did very well. Obviously, you can't place John Gallagher, but he brings a really intense character -- such good music.
sure John's version is 'the original' but Blake gave Moritz a wonderful darker side singning wise that i've come to appreciate just as much as John's awesome talent. but personally i could listen to the both of the all day haha
@colorfulcontact Yes but it's not always about the notes behind the lyrics. It's about the EMOTION that the actors put into each and every word, pitch, rhythm, timing, etc. Which Mr. Blake Bashoff does wonderfully (in my opinion at least) here.
I second your comment of him giving the character a sense of reality. It's beautiful how much emotion he devotes... However, I think his voice his incredible. Watch the nuances he tries to add (You get a great close up in this video) After all, he's supposed to be portraying a confused teenager. His vocal wavers, his actual acting voice, and the whole demeanor with which he carries it all out suits Moritz Stiefel to a tee. I appreciate JGJ, but to me Blake Bashoff is Moritz Stiefel.
I love Blake!! He was a fantastic Moritz and he was really nice when I met him after the show. I'm only sad that they didn't do the whole song because I think Steffi D is awesome!
Since posting that, I actually got the chance to catch Blake on the tour, and he is much improved since Broadway. He's very enjoyable in the role. His voice still doesn't do much for me though, nothing compared to Gallagher's. But he acts the role very well.
This rendition is more to the keeping with the character portrayed in the play. Emotional to the point of losing control. Blake's version of Moritz is perfect.
JGJ was better for simple fact that he birthed this role. Every inch of paranoia or intensity that another actor used in their portrayal of Moritz was all stemmed from JGJ. Blake was one of the better Moritz' theres been, but JGJ became a legend for this performance.
I thought it fit. After all, the character is literally having a neurotic breakdown. It shouldn't sound polished. In fact, I wish it were portrayed even more manic
i think the fact that he strains some notes just highlights moritz's pain and stress and really sells the character
Loved Blake as Moritz. He brought such a great vulnerability to the role. Really amazing performance.
I agree :D
So incredibly talented.....
I love the small streak of danger that he has. He's vulnerable, yet mysterious.
I also love John Gallegher as Moritz but Blake really impressed me.
Also, does anyone else think that he looks like a teenager, not 28??? so cute
Nicole S I mean John was only 22 when he was in sa
Ahhh! Irony lesson of the day: Every time I listen to "Don't Do Sadness" I get emotionally devastated.
i've tried to force myself to like blake's moritz hair, but i just can't
"man it blows my mind" ha..,,.a.ha,,,,,(crying)
reddy4red97 oh no
his facial expressions are fierce
i LOVE blake bashoff so friggin much
I saw this in Chicago and Im a huge Swing Awakening fan AND a huge LOST fan and I couldn't miss the chance to stage door and talk to him about Lost. GHe was very cool about it:)
I love John Gallagher Jr as Moritz, but I would not mind if to see Blake in the upcoming Spring Awakening movie :)
His intensity sells the whole performance
Blake is a brilliant actor. I saw him a bunch of times as well as john and gerard. Blake, while his voice is just alright, really gave the character a sense of reality when he was there. He was always experimenting with just being in the moment. Like a real actor.
I am so glad I get to hear some good-quality singing from Blake again. I saw him when he was doing the show on Broadway and he was amazing!
yes blake adds a dimension of insanity to moritz, but JGJ is by far the best moritz, his intensity, facial expressions and overall portrayal of moritz's depressed state combined with his amazing voice definitely overshadows blake.
Blake Bashoff's interpretation of Moritz is perfection. His portrayal reflects the character in the play. Moritz is emotional to the point of losing control.
I saw this in November- absolutely incredible, I'll never forget it. Blake was wonderful, as was everyone else!!
Love this song.
The videos never do the actual performance justice. It sounds so much better live. Blake = love.
absolutely love this song and the musical, i cant get it out of my head!
saw him last night on opening night in chicago and loved him! He was so sweet at the stage door too.
I LOVE BLAKE! he is amazing
i love the way he sings this
Love love love him! Wonderful.
Well said. I think we should also mention that he is lovely in person too, so if anyone gets the chance to meet him, you should talk to him
I LOVE his performance!!
And I got to sit on stage at the Houston, TX showing YAY
here's the lyrics if its comes handy to anybody
Awful sweet to be a little butterfly
Just wingin' over things and nothing deep inside
Nothing goin', goin' wild in you, you know
You're slowin' by the riverside
A-floatin' high and blue
Or maybe cool to be a little summer wind
Like once through everything and then away again
With the taste of dust in your mouth all day but no need to know
Like sadness
You just sail away
'cause ya' know
I don't do sadness
Not even a little bit
Just don't need it in my life
Don't want any part of it
I don't do sadness
Hey, I've done my time,
Lookin' back on it all
And it blows my mind
I don't do sadness
So been there,
Don't do sadness
Just don't care
wow.
i love blake bashoff!
he is awesome!
I was sitting in one of the stage seats when this was being filmed! It's so cool to be able to see it over and over again! ;)

This is my favourite song in the show.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! it was amazing
My favorite Moritz is the combo between Daniel N. Durant and Alex Boniello but Blake is amazing, so it's John.

He is the best! So amazing.
YES. I've been waiting for this for such a long time.
Ahhhh. Love.

The Whole tour cast was brilliant!

Best Mortiz, FANTASTIC performance!
his vocie kills me every time he is so great amazing and he is just wow i cant even say it in words!!!
Oh god, Saw him in Des Moines, Simply amazing! :D Love his voice.
I adore him!!!!
I love him. I saw him at the kenedy center... it gave me chills through the whole song. so haunting--- they do it better than the OBC
MY FAVORITE MORITZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been searching for him without remembering his name (til now!). He was theMoritz when i saw Spring Awakening a couple weekends ago in Cleveland.
I LOVE THIS MAN
no one can EVER beat the current actor at the lyric in london, england. amazing voice, amazing acting.
I agree. Blake's talent, I feel, surpasses John. His acting is phenomenal, too.
I was there too. I thought Chase did an amazing job. I really grabbed onto the character through him. Say 'hell yeah' for the U/S's of the world. They deserve tons of credit.
i saw him live today really good big stage presence in it
that was really good! he hasn't got the best voice of the three, but he for sure does the role justice! go blake.
my favorite moritz. he is amazing.you have to love blake
I swear to go i just die every time i hear him he is such a good Mortiz like really good and his face and his hair and the wa act just gives me chills he his great!
OMG Blake IS THE BEST!!!!!
I saw the touring cast in SF, and that's when I fell in love with SA.
When I saw the Broadway cast earlier that year, I hated it.
He's actually my favorite Moritz in the vocal aspect. He doesn't sound too good here simply because the levels are off.
I love all of the casts, to tell you guys honestly. I think I just love Spring Awakening in general. :)
I didn't get to see him in STL, but Chase did this song amazingly. Moritz is my favorite character, for sures.
lol 1:10
*I move away from the mic to breathe*
Ugh. So good!!
Well, if that's true it isn't right, but then again, the understudies do a fantastic job in their own right. I saw the Saturday matinee so sort of expected some understudies. I was still blown away by their performances.

Blake = love.

was just there on sat in st. louis AMAZING !!
Hahahaha his hair stands like, straight up, I love it.
I saw him as Moritz on Broadway the first week he did it -- and he did very well. Obviously, you can't place John Gallagher, but he brings a really intense character -- such good music.
sure John's version is 'the original' but Blake gave Moritz a wonderful darker side singning wise that i've come to appreciate just as much as John's awesome talent. but personally i could listen to the both of the all day haha
he was nice enough to talk on a fan's phone to the fan's friend so that they could talk to blake, which was cool
I agree. If you find a tour cast set, send it this way!
its a musical, not a band. it's called Spring Awakening. He's an actor/ singer.
@colorfulcontact Yes but it's not always about the notes behind the lyrics. It's about the EMOTION that the actors put into each and every word, pitch, rhythm, timing, etc. Which Mr. Blake Bashoff does wonderfully (in my opinion at least) here.
The only guy I saw play Moritz was Gerard canonico but I did get to meet Blake and John and Gerard it made my day and that was all in one day
I second your comment of him giving the character a sense of reality. It's beautiful how much emotion he devotes...
However, I think his voice his incredible. Watch the nuances he tries to add (You get a great close up in this video) After all, he's supposed to be portraying a confused teenager. omg the beginning creeped me out sooo bad but i love this song(:
Nice voice! Some talent!
I love Blake!! He was a fantastic Moritz and he was really nice when I met him after the show.
I'm only sad that they didn't do the whole song because I think Steffi D is awesome!

this guy is awesome! wish i woulda seen it when it came to Pgh :(
Haha yeah when we met him my friend said, "Hey man, I'm sorry you died on Lost."
He was sooo nice and such an amazing Moritz!
JGJ was better for simple fact that he birthed this role. Every inch of paranoia or intensity that another actor used in their portrayal of Moritz was all stemmed from JGJ. Blake was one of the better Moritz' theres been, but JGJ became a legend for this performance.
lowkey better than the original cast
YES! My favorite is Alex boniello than him
hahaha yeahhh thanks! I'm mighty proud I got the screen name and it's spelled correctly too! ;)
love it!!!!!
i think he's amazing
I saw this yesterday and had stage seats it was INCREDIBLE. I agree with RnBKiD24 his falsetto was much better when I saw it.

i just saw this today.
ohmygod.
this guy is the coolest. ever. i want to marry him. hahaha
Seeing you in a few hours, Blake!
I guess you can say Moritz really went out with a bang.
gerard is the most moving moritz imo
fel ar ew stinky man
I hate the fact that the levels are so off, he's actually an incredible singer but this makes it sound weird
I thought it fit. After all, the character is literally having a neurotic breakdown. It shouldn't sound polished. In fact, I wish it were portrayed even more manic
filming's great! And Blake's really good but JGJ will always be my fave!
going to see it in austin, TX with friends and i want to go with his hair haha how does he do it?
