This is one of those musicals that has an unintentionally profound effect. I lost a friend a few years ago to suicide - Moritz is Andy to me, facing the disappointment from family on his position in life, the reluctance to accept his sexuality....now he's gone. Tears my heart out....his dad could say the same things as Moritz's, cry the same tears, but he could have helped stop everything...
Every time I watch this scene I keep hoping that Moritz will say yes and go with Ilse. In my mind I say, "Come on Moritz, GO WITH ILSE!" This is such a sad scene.
I love watching what each of them do while the other sings. moritz sobbing into his mic stand when ilse has her solo part, ilse curling in on herself and clutching her flowers to her chest..... my HEART
Emma's voice is so beautiful. This is the scene that shakes me up the most, and everyone does it so well . . . I saw Steffi D and Chase and I just started sobbing. This musical changes people.
I think its the interpretation of the character... He's depressed :( I think he's remembering the good times when life was easier.. when he was younger, playing with her as a kid.
i have seen 3 different boys play Moritz (not in real life but in videos) and each of their interpretations are a little bit different. they all are amazingly talented and make a great Moritz. But in my opinion John Gallagher Jr will always be my favorite Moritz :)
when i saw the show on broadway, blake bashoff was moritz. man that scene is so sad. i totally cried. i sooooo want to watch the show again. hopefully i can see the tour cast soon. :( i love SA!
This is beyond words. Maybe I'll come back and comment later when I can make coherent thoughts. ... Believe me, Moritz... I REALLY wish you could, too.
I didn't see it on Broadway, but the stage went dark, there was a loud pop(probably the snare drum being hit extremely loud). There also was a light(probably a lighter) for a split second where the gun was.
this is the first footage of the new broadway cast i have ever seen. Emma has a really good voice! I think i might like it better then Lauren. Very beautiful. I am sooo sad this masterpiece is no longer on Broadway
Whoa, was someone singing over Gerard Canonico in "Don't Do Sadness"? That's corrupting briliance! I guess if it was the person who posted this video, then I could forgive them b/c this is an awesome view of the final show on Broadway!!
I've heard it was staged that way (from In the Flesh..you should read it...it's a fantastic book!) because Michael Mayer didn't want any connection between the two because he felt that if there was a connection and eye contact between the two, Moritz would have gone with Ilse and not killed himself.
I swear I love to torture myself, all I watch is this video and Tony’s death scene from West Side Story Edit: my phone died just before he put the gun in his mouth. I think it’s trying to protect me
Notice how no one laughed when Gerard said, "Enough!" I saw it twice, and people laughed both times at that line. I wish that every SA audience would behave like this. By that, I mean an audience that the majority of which has seen Spring Awakening at least once and knows what is appropriate or inappropriate. Although, from the other vids I've seen, I could do without the excessive cheering. Although, it is kind of justified because it was the last performance of SA on Broadway.
in my opinion, her timing is so off. She's adding weird laughs at the strangest times then gets so serious and the transitions from emotion to emotion is so abrupt and just sounds like she's overall trying to hard and ends up coming across as bad acting. I was really dissapointed by her. Gerard, however, is much better.
A moment of appreciation for Gerard’s beautiful and highly underrated voice

Gerard is beautiful. It hurts to see him cry.
My heart breaks at the "For the love of God...all I had to do was say YES. Ilse...ILSE!!!!"
the audience sniffing adds so much intensity
Gerard was actually in the Original cast but he originally understudied Moritz and was in the Ensemble!!
god, gerard will always be my favorite moritz.....
Gerard rocked it! I never saw him as Moritz live, but he has an excellent voice for it judging from what I've heard/seen.
her playing of this scene is so different from any others i've seen. i really like it, actually! it really shows her childishness.
Every time I watch this scene I keep hoping that Moritz will say yes and go with Ilse. In my mind I say, "Come on Moritz, GO WITH ILSE!" This is such a sad scene.
omg 5:08 kills me when Gerard starts to cry. :'(
The passion he puts into his movements (when he's rocking out) makes me like him even better than JGJ.
I love this scene, one of my favorite songs from the show. Also, (letting the theatre kid out a bit) this scene has especially sexy lighting! =D
This is my favourite scene ever.... I cannot wait to play Ilse.
I love watching what each of them do while the other sings. moritz sobbing into his mic stand when ilse has her solo part, ilse curling in on herself and clutching her flowers to her chest..... my HEART
Gerard might be the only other Moritz I actually like, apart from JGJ, obviously.
Emma's voice is so beautiful. This is the scene that shakes me up the most, and everyone does it so well . . . I saw Steffi D and Chase and I just started sobbing.
This musical changes people.

I love when he cries! its so amazing to do that! I love this scene! Great!

omg the ending made my heart beat like crazy its so sad(ness)
Steffi was downright brilliant. So spot on.
i love this musical.
this scene touches me everytime.
its soo beautiful
So wonderful to watch again
I swear Spring Awakening has the most brilliant lighting design!
This video hurts me mentally and emotionally
i saw a commercial for this show like 100 times, had to serach it to see what it was.
Yes, it is :)
Amazing! Emma has a lovely voice, and even better acting (tieing with Steffi D in my book).
Seeing the tour 4/24!
Moritz in general, I cry so much over him.
I just saw this at a local show. They actually put a flash and a gunshot in :'(
jeannaegirl tbh I prefer when they do it this way. A gunshot is just for shock value imo
If I heard the gunshot I would die
My God, I could watch this scene every day. Thank you for posting this!
when i saw the show on broadway, blake bashoff was moritz. man that scene is so sad. i totally cried. i sooooo want to watch the show again. hopefully i can see the tour cast soon. :(
i love SA!
The lighting is AMAZING!
wasn't sure about Ilse until about 4:05. she's got pipes!
agreed a million times!!! i absolutely love steffi d (and the whole tour cast for that matter)
Omigosh this scene is so heartbreaking! I was fighting the urge to cry when I saw it!!!!
Gerard at 5:12... My god. I think my heart just broke.
moritz crying during 'blue wind' is part of the show or was it because it's the last performance and the actor got emotional?
omg omg. I have only seen the tour live, and they are good, but this is...wow. Thanks for posting.
This is a No-go for any audition.
I agree! Steffi and Blake were incredible, and I've heard Chase/Moritz is amazing as well.
favorite scene from the show
so sad :(
This is beyond words.
Maybe I'll come back and comment later when I can make coherent thoughts.
... Believe me, Moritz... I REALLY wish you could, too.

hoping this show comes back to boston soon
whose playing ilse? her acting is amazing
@brendanROX111 My first guess was Phoebe Strole. Then she sang and I thought "that has to be Emma Hunton"
Gerard dominates.
Blake is definitely my favorite Moritz but Gerard is defintely a close second :)
@sdkicks It's Emma Hunton and she was amaaaaazing
Gerard was the best Moritz, still holds up
best scene in any musical EVER!!! i still like the off broadway version better thats more like the original play :)
i love gerard. just, end of story.
I don't know about the style, however, the falsetto is specifically stated in the sheet music.
@takiet10 I'm thinking he got emotional because taylor (moritz from the tour) didn't cry when I saw it.
this is the first footage of the new broadway cast i have ever seen. Emma has a really good voice! I think i might like it better then Lauren. Very beautiful. I am sooo sad this masterpiece is no longer on Broadway
i completely agree
I really doing like this ilse

THANK YOU
Gerard is really good, but personally i still prefer John Gallagher Jr. But then I'm probably a bit bias because i am in love with him x
I hope they tour LA again
oh god I can see myself onstage ahhaa
@OhSoRandom1LoveItAll We did have some remarkable times DIDN'T WE

Why do I prefer Gerard to JGJ?
Final Broadway performance, 1/18/09
that's interesting :)
what's the significance of the lighted portrait on the left?
do you have the i believe scene? if so, can you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease post it? if you can, that would achieve the maximum quantity of awesomeness!!!
the gun goes off...he kills himself. Its so sad!
@laka101 Moritz's father.
I swear I love to torture myself, all I watch is this video and Tony’s death scene from West Side Story
Edit: my phone died just before he put the gun in his mouth. I think it’s trying to protect me
really? i love emma!
do you have the TF encore?
i love this play this is so all the shit teenagers go thur like parents need to see this shit
Who is this Moritz?
Tony Abraham Gerard Canonico

I think John Gallagher Jr
Gerard is growing on me. Emma is not. She has a nice voice, but it's a little too sweet. I really don't buy her as Ilse.
