      Joshua has over 9 Million subscribers on UA-cam, 2 Million on Instagram and 7 Million on TikTok. He must be absolutely ROLLING in cash, not evening taking any sponsorships into account. He probably could've paid for the whole house in cash or made it 3x bigger and still be fine. I actually expected *more* lavishness and insanity from him, the house actually feels kinda normal - just brand new and beautifully made, which makes it look even better. He could have easily done a home with a whole filming room, super-expensive cameras à la MKBHD etc.
      I don't watch his content actively anymore, but the direction he has taken has definitely made his channel explode in growth. He switched from focused, sometimes almost boring, high precision cooking to more "clickable" content with tons of listicles and a bit more dramatized editing that appeals to the masses.
      He started out with filming out of his cupboard in his small kitchen on the West Coast and being notorious for producing absolutely everything from scratch if possible in any way in order to achieve the maximum quality, which was mostly pretty unrealistic and people (understandably) memed on him for that. His content is still good, but just not "as" meticulous as it once was.

    How funny is it that I was literally just watching this. Tis house is special in so many ways, first the hardwood celings, it brings. that warmth and coziness into the home and it makes the home very welcoming. Next, the tall windows that are literally everywhere in this gorgeous house bring natural light from every angle. Next, the geometric shapes and all the different angles, it makes the house unique. Just the overall location of the house, makes it very zen and serene. I'm so happy for Joshua Weissmanna andd his beautiful wife,

    I think the size of the dining area in the great room looks like it might be able to accommodate a round/oval table. This potentially could offer more room for seating. It also might soften up angles and straight lines of everything else in the room. Functionally, it may help the space flow better by being less of a barrier to circulation as well.

    Totally agree with your analysis. Floor to ceiling windows in a bedroom are not for real life. I have a normal window, with custom blinds in a casing with blackout curtains over that. People don't realize how important darkness is for sleep. When do you get to enjoy those windows anyway? If I were gutting that house, I'd put the living or dining room at the back with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the view. Realistically, he cooks for a living, so I wonder if he cooks at home much at all, or entertains. That bench, ergh.

      If I very were ever to pick marble for my home, I would pick a darker, somewhat patterned stone that could take some wear and patina it will inevitably get over time. I like to cook, and also wouldn't trust myself/significant others/kids/guests to keep my marble (or anything else for that matter) pristine. Carrara is just too delicate, and is likely to be very quickly marred by tomato/turmeric/or beauty product stains. The added benefit is that you could pick something more unique, that has a bit more character and is less overdone than white/grey veined marbles that are often the default.

    Plus, I would not sleep one night in that bedroom comfortably. Having all of that access from the outside! ..plus the view of the neighbors. My knee jerk reaction is I want safety first and this creeps me out.
    I loved this review.. well done with such grace. I agreed with everything! But I don’t think my brain could shut off worrying about safety… and the fishbowl affect at night with all of the lights on inside. 🤷‍♀️ no

      I don’t mind the rear so much…it’s about as private as you get in Austin or near any major city frankly. I doubt the rear/side neighbors have any interest in my activities as long as they are undisturbed. Besides, most of the glass is atrium/rear yard facing. My main concern would be how open the living area seems to be to anyone in the front yard/front door. I want to be able to enjoy my living space looking less than presentable at times/hide from solicitors and other unwelcome guests, lol. Maybe there are shades on all the lower windows that aren’t apparent.

    It's a beautiful home, him and his SO clearly have good design taste as I've seen over the years in their other homes/cars/etc. I think a lot of the rooms are unfinished, considering he moved in fairly recently, and from his previous, smaller home. He's likely been incredibly busy if you look at his channel/social media! If I were to offer next steps to really make it a comfortable home, it could use way more soft textures in the form of rugs, pillows, etc. The bedroom and office would really benefit from area rugs. Besides that, I would start to introduce more art and plants that will help further personalize/warm up the house.

    idk but this just doesn't feel like a home. It is trully really nice to look at and is in someway art, but that bedroom looks increbily empty and huge the bed looks hostile and not especially comfortable and cozy aswell. The library room is very pretty but lacks character and is in my opinion overplayed with the whole aesthetic.
    The kitchen area is really nice and also the sofa that they showed, it actually looks livable. The dining table just does not look right with that bench and i agree that it should have just had chair all round.
    Also for such a huge space one would expect a bigger dining table even though its obviously not as easy to fit in the current layout.

    I really like the handtufted wall hanging in the bedroom, and fully agree the acoustic benefits are much needed in that minimal space.
    I have to say, I do think they absolutely butchered the exterior of the building. Those grey wall tiles are clearly applied and not actual stone masonry, which is so antithetical to the mid-century modern and organic modern ethos. But it may also just be a matter of taste... The original building looked much more 'rooted' in the landscape, whereas the new design looks like it was just 'plonked on top' of some grass, completely disconnected. I'm glad they retained the beautiful trees though, including the one in front of the bedroom window.

    The house feels very "man cave"-y, very sharp, minimal and lacking in décor - which is fine if that's your style but I would've loved some sheer curtains, rugs, plants and art. Matching a LM Linea Mini with a DF64 is so bad, wtf. You are getting one of the best home prosumer machines you can get and for the grinder you match it with a low end grinder. The DF64 is a great budget option, dont get me wrong, but that budget it is clearly a horrible option.

    • @iamkid_a
      @iamkid_a 2 місяці тому

      lol a DF64 is fine, especially if you update to ssp burrs which we don't know if he did or not. flat burr is still the way to go and honestly plenty of people have a niche + linea mini combo but in my experience having both df64 outperforms niche every day. df64 is not a "low end grinder" it's pretty high-mid. it's not like he has some baratza encore sitting there.

    • @michaelniezgoda8765
      @michaelniezgoda8765 2 місяці тому +4

      Indeed. It is not obvious when starting out in your espresso journey, but at that budget, he should have swapped the expenditures and acquired an expensive grinder and a cheaper (but still good) espresso maker. I learned this mistake the hard way too.

    • @iamkid_a
      @iamkid_a 2 місяці тому

      @@michaelniezgoda8765 he had a breville barista pro before this so it's safe to assume he actually does know what he's doing a little bit. very few people have grinders that are over $600 even when their machines are in the thousands, there are diminishing returns at that point..

    • @BarAlexC
      @BarAlexC 2 місяці тому

      Nice to see someone else catch that. DF64 is actually amazing for what it is. A budget single dose, flat 64mm that allows upgrades down the line. But it needs tweaking to be great and won't reach the user experience high end grinders have. Great to match it with an entry level $500...$1000...$2000? espresso machine.
      If you have the money for a Linea Mini, get a Weber/Lagom/Titus/Mahlkonig?/etc.
      For the sake of analogy:
      -it's like you have an event, buy some amazing $2k bespoke (shell cordovan?) shoes just to match them with a rented tuxedo that would need serious adjustments to fit well;
      -or you get a Rolls Royce, but, for some reason, get the option to install Ford seats, instead, to cut costs and you choose that.

    Wow what a beautiful warm midcentruary exterior. Devoid of any warmth or personality, on the inside. You don’t have to be a maximalist, to think carefully about the colour, materials and texture you use in a minimalist home. To make it look and feel like an actual human with a personality lives there. Hire an interior designer, do work with and balance that beautiful architectural design.
    Okay let me rephrase, in a man splaying way, as a woman architect, who as also at times worked in an interior design spaces. What this home really needs is a woman’s involvement. Or perhaps some input from the wabi-sabie approach, on materials selection, wood, living materials, textiles warm materials with some wear or living things would add volumes to this Instagram rental interior pallet, something anything that the home owner loves and appreciates, art, sculpture, heck a framed price of macaroni art, would improve the blandness, at this point. Go wild paint a wall using lime wash in a warm and neutral shade. Okay, okay I’ve had my rant.
