I told her that it is because they are different races.....she didn't understand and I didn't want to take the time to explain. @country Estonia is totally different. Mexican-Americans are Americans whose ancestors and heritage come from Mexico so yes, you should know something about them. They are a group found predominately in the southwest of the United States. We have been here for generations. We have been here way longer than any anglo. Just a friendly reminder that Texas, New Mexico, California, Nevada and Arizona were formally known as Mexico. So please do not compare this to Estonia. We are talking about Mexicans. So YES you should know something. Pure ignorance.

    • @rachelhilton685

@@azahelramirez86 If you're referring to the "Tejano" ranchers discriminating it is because most of them do not have Mexican ancestry. A lot of the so called Mexican Americans or "original Tejanos" are of Spanish ancestry and they have documentation to prove it. They particularly can trace their lineage to Las Islas Canarias. Many Mexicans don't know this and they surely don't go around saying it. It's always funny to me when Mexicans say, "Look, they've lost all their customs and their food". No they haven't. Mexican food is NOT their food. This is why they eat flour tortillas and pasta (sopas) of all kinds. Their accent and grammar conjugations in Spanish is even different because of this. I won't go into the technicality because first, it would take too long and second, you won't believe me if you're Mexican. They have so much history that this group deserves a whole history book by itself. Don't get me wrong, a lot of Texans are of Mexican origin but I'm talking about the original Tejanos that have been here for generations.

Well, race is touchy. Mexico tries to claim Aztec and Spanish ancestry at the same time, or neither and creates a conflict of identity. It certainly makes the country more unified that you can say "The Aztecs never left, they just learned Spanish". But I like Mexicans because they find kinship in their Mexican identity over their skin-color.

I've had "Mexican" friends who have also said such things as" you don't look Mexican" or " you're white as hell to be Mexican" this of course being because they have never really come back to Mexico or they basically go straight to their towns, where certain ethnicity predominates. Many Mexican Americans have this wrong idea of México.

Mexico is Mexico, which is a part of *North* America. Mexicans are North Americans, in contrast to, say, Brazilians and Columbians, who are *South* Americans. Semantically, America is only the United States of it, "America" only for abbreviation. (Estados Unidos de America)- Unless Mexico becomes part of the United States of America. If we say "United States" then it could refer to "United States of Mexico" because Mexico is a Federated country. If they dissolve the United States of America, and every State become their own countries, then "America" can be anything in the general sense. It's like Great Britain- Britain refers to the biggest Island in the British Isles in contrast to Brittany, which is in continental Europe; the United Kingdom is the government, England is a Country in Britain, and so are Scotland and North Ireland, but not Wales, as Wales became a part of England lawfully a long time ago. Therefore, America for the United States of America.

LOL that is so true. I love the way you put it "diverse genetic" make up. Also, the distinction of Mexican race vs. citizenship...So you know, there have been many waves of immigration to Mexico, not only Spanish. There have been waves of Lebanese, Spanish, Cuban, Tunesian, Syrian, Argentinean, Italians, Chinese, Korean, and many more ethnic groups that have had descendants in Mexico. Thank you for mentioning the Afro-Mexicans in the south, Veracruz and Yucatan areas. I am the descendant of Lebanese Jews and mixed with Native Mexican. Great Video! in Mexico reside 56 Ethnic groups, like the mayans, purepechas, raramuris, Lacandones, yaquis etc.. Each with its own culture, language, and of course physical appearance.
To this diversity are added the Europeans, Arabs, and other peoples of the world.
Therefore, Mexicans can have many physical appearances.

99% of mexicans are mainly native americans or ameindians 1% is other. Like anyother country in the Americas, Dominican Republic are mainly mulato or black as 90% , Argentines are 97% white, Colombia 30% white, 60% mixed, 10% black and so on. But Mexico is the most indigenous country in the Americas.

      G Reinsther 99% of natives ? Mexico is 60-90% Mestizo(Mixed) 20-25% whites. 11% Indigenous and 1 other. We're not all natives . Your wrong.

G reinsther my nigga thats like saying 99% of Germans are blond haired and blue eyed. Latin American stats are all wrong, they are not accurate at all. Ive had clearly mestizo looking latinos come up to me and claim to be "white". I say bullshit.

It’s so stupid to hear that I’m not a Mexican because of being white :/
(Fun fact, I always considered myself as white, but Americans don’t see me as white because I was born in Mexico, even if my skin color is even lighter than theirs. I just don’t get it, lol. )

Guys... This basically applies for all Central and South America. It's the same thing, but in different percentages. All these countries passed through a process of mixing, and there are left a few of pure race (native indigenous people or African black people) . Latin American people, we are mixed raced (and a minority of pure race), there's not such a thing as "Mexican race or Brazilian or whatever". Those are nationalities. Now, out of the mixed people, some have stronger European ancestry that gets to be shown in their features, or black or indigenous. For example, in my country, Colombia, in comparison to Mexico, the native indigenous people percentage is much more lower, but there's a higher in black (or black mixed/descendant ). There is plenty of light skinned people (especially in the central regions or big cities). The majority of European ancestry in my country is, obviously from Spain, but also in a lower percentage British, German, Italian etc... There's also a considerable number of middle eastern descendance. I just find so interesting this topic, for example my two grandfathers are "white" or light skined better (one was blonde also) and my two grandmothers have darker skin, and I'm light skinned and my two siblings are light dark skined. And that's just an example of how rich and diverse we are in Latin America. In countries like Perú or Bolivia there are higher percentages of indigenous people, whereas in southern countries like Argentina or Uruguay the "white" percentage of people is higher (there's big Italian ancestry in there). Now to finish this was a very nice video, very educative especially against the stereotypes and ignorance in these topics in the USA as an effect of their centralist culture... That give birth to people thinking that there's people speaking "mexican", or that Brazilians speak Spanish, or that people from Spain are Latinos, or appropriating the name of a whole continent to refer to their country and nationality and spread it and make it seem correct internationally or thinking that "hispano" is a race (that one gives me headaches).
PD: US people "hispano" (origin of the word: old region of Hispania, current España (Spain)) refers to a Spanish speaking individual, not a race or a country of origin, hence, people from Spain (europians) are Hispanic and people from Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, French Guayana and/or speaking native indigenous languages across countries in Central/South America are NOT hispanic. Hispanic, to put it in context is to Spanish what francophone is to French, and anglophone is to English. I swear once you guys understand that you will realize how wrong is its use and can educate other people.
