Me pregunto cómo hablan actualmente hahaha

    Es cómico porque Benny no puede hablar así cuando habla con una chica que habla español perfectamente. Él siempre comete errores con ellas pero cuando está con principiantes él trata de hablar como profesional y en castellano.

    I'm in Madrid right now and about to head over to Barcelona because its way too hot here. If anyone would like to share an apartment for a month and do a similar 'no english' thing whenever we're around each other that would be pretty motivating. I'm 21 from the UK and super chill and non-judgemental. Also my Spanish sucks!
    I know its a very long shot but if anyone wants to meet up instead I'd be keen to meet you. PM me :)

      That's weird. If you speak French (at a high level) you should be able to learn Spanish pretty fast. I'm native Spanish speaker and I learned French at C1 level in 5 months. Both languages are from the family of the Romance Languages. I would recommend you to use the French logic to learn Spanish or any other Romance language.

  • @IFironfingers
    @IFironfingers 9 років тому +6

    Fluency takes years in any language. That doesn't mean that you can't learn to speak at some level. People shouldn't fool themselves though. For instance they are doing ok for beginners - inventing some words, missuse of others. Pretty bold to put this on you tube.
    Hey, but still impresive.

    If only we all learned like this in school/ My 6 years of french lessons from 10 to 16 would have actually had a purpose. I can see that everything is not perfect with the dialogue here but so what? It is 12 weeks and you are chattering away well enough.
    In some English Public schools(private schools) they teach in a different language each day and none of the pupils may speak English on non English days.

  • @Shijaru64

    It's quite misleading to say 'fluent' in 3 months. It's a lie. His Spanish is quite decent, but not fluent. Nothing bad with it, but he certainly shouldn't call himself fluent. I'd say he's upper-intermediate at best, but the video doesn't show us enough about his Spanish. All these polyglots should start by defining what they mean by 'fluent'.
    If we understand 'fluent' as being able to express yourself like a native speaker then you need to grasp and make yours what is called ''the spirit of the language''. That ''something'' which makes a language sound and smell like it. For example, Romance languages tend to favor subordination while Germanic languages tend to favor coordination, meaning, it's common for a Germanic language to let a comma or a period link two ideas whereas a Romance language like Spanish or Italian would link them using relative pronouns or subordinating conjunctions. Collocations are another very important thing which make you sound natural in a language. Their Spanish sounds rather bookish, I'd say, it's the kind of Spanish you learn in a book, it's not the colorful way you actually speak in the streets.
    Anyway, they do speak the language, but fluent? Nope.

      @alanguages 7 років тому +1

      Illyasviel von Einsbern I don't think any of the three are very proficient, but they are obviously conversational even though there are mistakes. Even native speakers do that, as that also depends on the education level of speakers.
      I have noticed some commentators demean or devalue the levels shown by the people in the video.
      Example: IFironfingers above stated "You have only learned to say a few things in spanish." He or she implied the three are able to give tourist rehashed phrases and that is the extent of their ability. Three months of intensive studying is NOT Only a FEW things in Spanish.
      Hell, even here in Canada the government sponsors a program in Quebec for eleven weeks to learn basic French for work. I am sure the government does not fund the program for the learners to say ONLY a FEW things for the entire eleven weeks, considering it is mandatory for a job. If the three in the video were immersed for six months and studied intensively, then they would be basic fluency.

      I don't mind the two guys to the right in the sense that they are learning the language and are making a solid attempt at it. This Benny guy on the other hand proclaims to be fluent....Well he isn't. His accent is actually weird as he tries to force this fake native Spanish accent and he lacks any kind of articulation that would demonstrate real fluency in this language. It's too bad because if you are somebody who is not sophisticated in language learning it could be easy to fall for his false claims rather than seeing through the absurdity that is you can become fluent in 3 months

    • @alanguages
      @alanguages 6 років тому +1

      @@sundog8772 There is a reason you don't see Benny Lewis give lectures in Spanish or any other language other than English. It would expose him more, for the non fluent speaker he is. Benny is a motivational speaker, which helps others attempt to learn a language, but the audience he focuses on are the people likely that are not in it for the long term to actually become fluent. Short term learners are going to be most of his customers. Many subjects are like that, though. People will start introductory classes, but not stay to reach an advance level.

    • @evanserickson
      @evanserickson 6 років тому +1

      With all due respect, Benny defines his "fluency" as more of an ability to talk and be understood. If you watch any of his videos for 10 min or more he will say that he doesn't try to be perfect immediately.
