  • Beekeeping depends on the health of one bee, your queen. Queens can easily be killed by the beekeeper.

Many great ideas, it was very rewarding the first time I caught a Queen and got over the anxiety of being stung. That was many years ago but a big event. I liked the idea of marking upside down.

Thanks for another great video. In Denmark, we juse a special made nail on the sides of the frames. This helps keeping a distance all the time.

Thanks David. What do you think of the various devices designed to catch/hold the queen?

As with any specialty item it will work for some and not others. I prefer to use my hands as I have much more control.

Amazing timing. I rescued a colony from someone's storage bin Thanksgiving weekend. 2 days ago I caught the queen in a queen clip, transferred her to a 1-handed queen cage, marked her, put her back in the hive. Hopefully she's OK, without injury. Will see in 2 weeks when I recheck the hive.

I am looking to find out if Africanized Drones will mate with Russian, Carniolan, Caucasian, or Italian queens? I ask because I purchased 4 nucs last spring in Texas and have 2 that are super aggressive ( will come out at you when 10-15 feet away) 1 that does become aggressive when working close to it and one that only becomes somewhat aggressive when working in the hive. My other hives which are feral (3) are what I would call normal. Meaning I can get into the hive most of the time without them flying in my face. If Africanized drones do mate with queens of a different genetics I was thinking of not purchasing bees or mated queens from areas that have a presence of Africanized bees. Not sure who the ABF state rep is for Missouri to see if he can find out.
    Thanks
