I take Luvox 300 mg/d and it helps tremendously. Still, I wish Luvox CR was available here so I could take two 150 mg capsules instead of six 50 mg tablets, LOL. In general, I find it equally as helpful as Prozac (which I also found very helpful) without the side effects.

Pressure from my husband to stop due to affordability. It's helping me I'm dreading falling into the dark hole again

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Are you comfortable saying where you are in the world and what medication you're referring to?

If you are able to get back to me, I’ll see if I have any ideas for you especially if you’re in the US as I’ve dealt with this issue many times over the years with patients. Either way, I think it’d be useful if I made a video about this topic.

Since I practice medicine in the U.S., I'm most familiar with how things work in the U.S., but based on what I read online about South Africa drug pricing, here are a couple of ideas. First, Wellbutrin XL, known generically as bupropion XL (also called ER TAB 24h) is available as brand-name (which is expensive) or generic (which is a lot less expensive). Be sure you're getting the generic version. Additionally, there are 3 formulations of bupropion to be aware of. You're on the longest-acting one (bupropion XL/ER TAB 24h). There's an intermediate acting one (bupropion SR/ER TAB 12h), and a short-acting one (just called bupropion -- it was the original formulation of this medication and therefore the oldest). Any of the three formulations should work. If your total dose is 150 mg per day, then the medium acting form can be given just once a day instead of the longest acting form (which is the newest and probably the most expensive). Alternatively, the short-acting form could be given as 75 mg twice a day. This might make it more expensive than the medium-acting one, though, because you'd need 60 tablets per month instead of 30. It'd be a good idea to discuss this situation with your prescriber and see if one of the shorter-acting forms is more affordable. If the medication is helping you now (XL 150 mg/day), it's likely one of the shorter-acting forms would help you, too. I wish you the best with this. Let us know what happens if you find a more affordable alternative.
