      I don't know how it works. Do politicians get paid indirectly for getting big contracts for defence companies like a commission type of thing?

    • @dreb222
      @dreb222 10 місяців тому

      @@yeshuaislord6880 There are multiple scenarios on why this happens. A common way is the red tape requires rigorous testing and certification for non failure especially for life support equipment and aircraft or other weapon or equipment platforms. The marked up price reflects the cost associated with the testing and certifications, required by the government which is understandable and common. However private sector taking advantage of government needs and price gouging is also common for general goods, and supplies. Also certification and engineering approval can lead to markup. The issue is that not very many companies can afford the additional testing and certs required by the red tape, and the few companies who can also are granted subsidies from the government to gain the certifications. In this process, these few companies who win the contracts and get the certification to produce approved equipment and hardware for the military also happen to be many companies that the said individuals making the laws have heavily invested in. So it’s basically the ones writing the laws and regulations fix the system requiring the government to purchase solely from entities they are highly invested in. Prices are marked up, and huge profits are sent out to the investors along with cuts to company ownership in many cases. It is often rigged but not always. I was in the military for ten years as a logistics troop. I’ve seen the inside of this madnesses directly. One example was I was working with a Lockheed engineer and a crew chief to find a battery tray for an AC-130W gunship because it was broken and corroded. The original part was around $200 to manufacture but was since not in production anymore. There were companies submitting bids for $80K and up marking up the price of the part because it was no longer in supply, trying to take advantage of the government’s need. I declined the bids, because they were under fraud, waste and abuse and the sheet metal shop on base was able to come up with an alternative for a few hundred bucks on initial cost.

      @@yeshuaislord6880 Well this is my second reply. The first one got deleted by UA-cam because I went in depth on how lawmakers rig the system so that it forces government agencies and DOD to purchase supplies and equipment from companies they invest in, and then hike up the prices. I also have 10 years direct experience on the inside with direct knowledge on this subject, I’ve seen things that make an $800 bolt look like child’s play.

    The way that Prince and his company were characterized at the time was absolutely awful, and largely just incorrect. There was a ton of just slander, and we never got to hear his side of the story. Blackwater had some really good foundations and inspirations for why they existed in the first place. And the part about why a soldier would leave the army and go private sector - he was absolutely right. We want to do it right without all the bureaucracy.

      There are separate parts of the budget specifically for "black ops" and "other operations" and things like that. The DoD really is that inefficient and bureaucratic (just like all other branches of government) coupled with a sprinkling of sleazy private sector shenanigans to squeeze out more money than product/service is worth (i.e. corruption).
