With the insincerity and self-centered crap 💩 of today's artist's and music 🎶... they couldn't hold a candle to the traditionalists and true 👌 pioneers of country music 🎼...Lefty Frizzell is a prime example of many that had it... bring back traditional country it stands the test of time 💯👌 .
This voice changed country music. The best ever. These albums came out when I was a about 12 or so. Lefty I think had 2 albums in the early 70s. This particular song I think was his best ever. .
This is my favorite song from Lefty. Country Music sucks nowadays. Lefty is a better singer than any modern singer on today's country radio in my opinion.
My dad played with him in Verona, Pennsylvania 1961. I was only 5, but I’ll never forget playing with my friends while they did music together. I have 6 boxes of pictures from back then that is hard to go through, and I know there is a picture of them. My dad played every instrument, but mainly his Mandolin, which I gave to one of my cousins so he’ll learn to play. Thanks for the wonderful memories ♥️
+Terry Martin You got Bud, Pure Old Time Southern Country Singin Voice, one and only Lefty Frizzell. Thanks Quarante Quartre 44 for puttin out this Great song but one of the Greatest Country singers.
A great voice taken too soon by Alcohol. You can here the pain in his voice and really believe he is living this song. That is what is missing in country music today.
Now a days they make too much money, travel in million-dollar air conditioned bus, and have one number one hit and retire. In the old days 16 hour rides from one job to the next in an old station wagon with the bass tied on top of the vehicle. Might make a few hundred bucks and then have to travel a couple thousand miles to get back to Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday. Tom T Hall said for his first number one hit he made $3,000. Having one of today's so-called country music stars singing about about hard times is like having Madonna sing about virginity.
I think that's one of the reasons why I love the Hag so much. Has a tremendous amount of admiration for the greats that preceded him in music. I heard Merle's version first and thought it couldn't be topped but this is awesome.
my late husband and lefty were first cousins, their moms were sisters... lots of talent in the cox and frizzell family. lefty was incredible, what a voice!!!!! i never tire of hearing his music. it brings backs memories of the music we loved together, of course i will always love traditional country music. it stirs your soul..
Joe, Glad I read your post. I have been hearing that "tic-tac" sound on several recordings and wondered what it was, now you say it is a bass. I sometime wonder if it was in the original song are was added later. Thanks for the answer.
Great voice and he knew how to use it. None better, wish he had lived to a ripe old age. Imagine what he would have left us with after another 20 years.
Lefty was at the top when I was a girl and every song was a hit and still is as far as I am concerned. The new one have ruined Country Music but we still have it on UA-cam.
I heard that song this week, “The Way It Was In ‘51” by Merle Haggard, a really good song! I got the “Down Every Road” Merle Haggard album for Christmas nearly 2 weeks ago.
Keith Whitley's favorite song. He would sing it at the drop of a hat. It was Keith who got Sanger Shafer to write a second verse. Keith was often criticized for sounding exactly like Lefty. Keith however took that as the highest praise. If you are going to sound like someone he would say, its good to sound like the best.
My favorite Lefty song and one of the best alcoholic regret songs of all time. Bet a friend of mine he wouldn't have heard of it and to my amazement he sang it word for word. Never bet him again on old obscure country music songs
@@chadjustice8560I'd say both .. more Lefty as he came a little earlier. Johnny Paycheck and Jones sang together rubbed off of each other ..so yes Johnny Paycheck very underrated
Lefty was the template who created a new style of singing in 1949. With pauses, breaks, and sustaining notes with the lyrics he sung. And his style was copied not only by most Country Music singers afterwards, but also imitated by singers of R&B and Pop.
a great song writer and singer.....looking back now, he had the right voice for the right songs....something you can not say for a lot of these so called singers today
I had to look up who wrote this after listening to merle haggards version. This is a great experience discovering these musicians. I will be listening to more Lefty Frizzel for sure
It is interesting they act like Lefty was washed up by the 70s. However," I Never Go around Mirrors "and "Thats the Way Love Goes" came out 73/74. In my opinion, 2 of his very best songs.
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music🎷 today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
My parents set the seeds of Bluegrass and these old Country singers in the 60s and 70s! Seems they all came back to me while in my 50s and have stayed with me since! Thank God for Hee Haw and the VFW Hall or else it may have been my moms Lawerene Welk! ☹️
I had the privilege of meeting his brother Allen and getting to watch him perform at our local cowboy church a couple years back and he sounded just like lefty.

let's take our hats off to Mark Chestnutt's cover of this. It almost that you have to be from Texas to get the metre of this tune and hold the emotion. Mark got it in his cover . after Lefty....Mark . on this one.

This is country not that new country
Merle haggard hero
John he was Merle Haggards idol
I agree👍
Without a doubt! Peace
Merle is the best of all time , total package, lefty deserves lot of the credit , Merle loved Lefty !!!!!
listen to merle sing and you can hear lefty in his voice
So did Keith Whitley
This is my favorite song from Lefty. Country Music sucks nowadays. Lefty is a better singer than any modern singer on today's country radio in my opinion.
You are right.
Obviously not even close
No comparison today’s so called country music is just wannabe country boys singing noise pollution.
I don’t listen to modern country. As a matter of fact I don’t even know the artists.
I hate today's country!!

I am shaking my head with a huge smile.. Lefty was one heck of a stylist. Just love this man's singing
10 million Luke Bryan’s couldn’t compare with one Lefty Frizzell
You said it brother
You said it the best of all.
This should have millions of views. Lefty one of greatest of all time.
That’s the damn truth.
Who is Luke Bryan?
Fantastic! The more I listen to his songs the more I realize what a true county legend he was!
No one can sing this like Lefty. Love it.
Keith was an Excellent singer But He was lacking against Lefty. I can not name One singer as good a Vocal as Lefty.
Travelling from California to kansas via the mother road rt 66 lefty on am radio...a memory that will never fade
This guy taught all the rest of the performers to sing...what a set of pipes!
David Frizzelll would agree, He said his brother came about that curl in his voice naturally but he had to learn it and it took a lot of practice.
one of the greatest country songs ever...that voice ...plus a great song...
+Terry Martin You got Bud, Pure Old Time Southern Country Singin Voice, one and only Lefty Frizzell. Thanks Quarante Quartre 44 for puttin out this Great song but one of the Greatest Country singers.
Wow!🎉.. that's the way you do it..👍👏🇺🇸
Lefty had what I call. a Real country voice.FABULOUS.
Hey how are you doing today..?😮
By far the best version of this song. I could listen to this all day.
I'm gonna have to say though this is the original and inspiration for all the ones after it I think Keith Whitley does the best version
@@austincampbell3388 have you heard George Jones version of this song, it's outstanding

Lefty lived into his *80's. My friend went fishing with him in 2009 at Brookville Lake near Dayton Ohio

Old Lefty knew how to do a real country song!!!! RIP Lefty.
Country at it's FINEST!!!! RIP Lefty 🙏😢💔
I grew up on these songs, nothing comes close today.
I had to listen to this song three times today. This is country music.
That voice, man. It's as slippery as a steel guitar and just as expressive.
You see where the Hag got it.

Clyde Dahler yeah? Cooder is somebody I have listened to in passing, enough to where I asked "who is that ?" So, yeah. I'll go check that out. Thanks!

Hello Joy how are you doing?
Hi Joy
Hello Joy 👋
I've heard this song by a lot of artists, but once you've heard it from Lefty, you know 'It's been sung'.
wow, how well you've said, it says it all.
Thank you.
Damn right !!
Agreed
Connie Higgins Keith Whitley does a good rendition
Lefty sets a standard of excellence for every country singer to emulate. Sure love that Tic-Tac bass that nobody does any more.

Lefty, you for sure are one of the greatest in country community, will see you sooner or later, RIP
Lefty and Hag remind me of each other. Love em both.
'cause Merle idolized Lefty...love 'em both too!
Merle often said that he thought that lefty hung the moon. High praise indeed

Except Keith didn't sound exactly like Lefty. Just listen to him cover I Love You A Thousand Ways in 1982 and then 1988. Keith was just Keith by 1988.
Rossm3838 Keith was humble and he was the best country singer ever!!!
Was it Sanger who wrote it's so easy for the blues to get me down ? The great Gene Watson does a very good version
Keith sings it better than all the rest, slower, and a much better voice for this song.
My favorite Keith song, ever.
Love this guy. He's country and I want it back. Lefty I hope you knew how wonderful you

Incomparable voice. Forerunner of George Jones with his ability of voice inflexion within a single sentence. Real country here.
I get where your coming from but the way Jones sang was created by Johnny paycheck.
Of course... Lefty was the forerunner to George Jones as far as being a stylist goes.. they were two of country music's best.

No one can beat lefty doing this .
I first looked up Lefty watching The Hard Part Begins, a Canadian film about a country singer King who was influenced by Lefty at an early age
Lefty was a master of real country music, unfortunately not appreciated till he left us!
I never knew this wasn't a Keith Whitley original.
