What’s the brush though?
🎉
I use c2 gaurd all the time, it's got a great look, but seems like it's needs an annual coat or at leaste every 2 years. Do you know any product that looks as nice but is more durable?
China Bristle!@@rainacherienne1010
Stead NV?
My neighbor used his used motor oil,and I have to tell you, it's looks great.
It’s the old way. Makes the fence last forever too. You can drill a 45° hole in the post and pour oil on there periodically as well. Just make sure to plug the hole between fills
@@sqaure4175damn I had no idea this is how you kept a fence running well 😰
I’ve heard of this and thought about doing it when we re do our fence, just wondered did you notice a bad used oil smell for a while or no? I don’t want our whole yard to smell like an auto shop lol
@@HowToEverything there is a smell but it wasn't really noticeable after a few days.
I wonder if this works as well with synthetic
I believe I’m not a bad craftsman (elevator union + electrical/communications union), and I feel like the way you teach is spot on. You don’t get all hung up on technical terms and explain things in a very nonchalant way. I love your videos, and I’m not afraid to say it!!! Hahaha
IUEC LOCAL 74!!! 💪🏻💪🏻
And you're right about that what today we are teaching a whole different kind of employee with pretty much no experience and no values
Agree
Yeah because it looks almost good and will be good for at least 2 years. Then the joins starts to sag, the posts rot and you have to do it again
Pro tip: if it’s pressure treated, only oil base stain.
If it’s not pressure treated, STILL only use oil based stain.
FACTS water based sucks. And only transparent or semi transparent, solid peels in a year!
Can I stain a pressure treated fence with oil base stain immediately or do I need to wait a few months?
@@gbengoosewuru4139 I’d say you’d be fine to stain whenever. If you wanna give it a week in the sun to cure up a bit that’d be playing it safe (sometimes hot sun will bleed a little extra sap out of the wood) but you oughta be good to stain. If the pressure treated wood has that blue/green algae that treated wood sometimes has on it you can mix up 1/4 bleach and water and rinse it off too and it should be good to go.
@@Christopheromoan Thank you for the reply!
@@Christopheromoan oh that’s what that was . I was kinda mad that they gave me post with that on their
Use Ready Seal and apply as much or as little as you want as long is it’s covered, no runs, completely even finish.
Good stuff.
I really like how much he loves what he does.
I’ve always found that just the right amount is best.
I loved this video. It was quick and to the point. Keep making videos! I wish they all were like this!
I use diesel and oil mixed in a pump up. Cost about $1.50 gallon.
Everyone would love a calm collected classy Jeff around unfortunately most trades people are not made like this anymore
Painting a happy little fence 🧑🦱
This guys great, he’s helped me on a few projects on UA-cam. Easy to follow instructions and it always turns out great
Happy to help
Every time I see one of your videos I feel I can do any kind of construction or building job!
How do you know so much? I’m a marine mechanic and know tons in that field but dang, I’m impressed.
Water-based stain is fine for furniture. You have to put a water sealer on a fence or deck after the water-based stain dries, so you should just use oil stain. You should put a clear coat over furniture with water based stain as well. Oil and moisture from your skin will damage the wood if it isn't sealed.
Waterborne has water repellent already mixed in.
It's not 1980 anymore 😊
The sealer is in the waterborne stain. No need to apply more sealer.
water-based stain designed for exteriors has sealer in it already. just make sure it is designed for exteriors and not furniture or interiors specifically.
You’re like the dad of home improvement. You make us feel like we can do anything.
I used the graco project painter and did 200feet in under 2 hours
“don’t put too much content in there…”. Spoken like a dedicated content creator 😂. Love and appreciate your videos!
Simple and strait to the point 👍
“Show me paint the fence” - Mr Myogi
HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂
I put mine in a pump up sprayer. My dad would use old motor oil and diesel fuel mixed with copper tox and spray his posts and wood fences. They're still there, he isn't.
Breathe in, Breathe out
In the nose, out the mouth
Small board,Left hand.
Big board, Right hand.
I bought this exact brush due to this video and it’s super heavy, I’m doing better with a smaller one.
No nonsense, I like it
Show me... Paint the fence! 🥋🥋🥋
Up! Down!
You can brush side to side doesn't matter will look exactly the same.
Awesome I want to do this 👍👍
but I’m curious about how to maintain it over the years?? Please any tips would be much appreciated thank you.
"De, De, De, De... All in the wrist, Up, Down" ~ Mr. Miyagi
Ive been staining in the Ottawa area for 20 years now and although that fence looks relatively new it still had a layer of weathering grey wood fiber that should of been cleaned or sanded to optimize the look of the stain.
How long after its been built should you wait? Also, is there a difference in waiting with pine vs cedar tone?
Faster info received EVER
why do you stain bottom up for oil and top down with water based?
Meanwhile, that big rain cloud in the background is going to dump a ton of rain in the next 5 minutes
C2 guard drys instantly
I say always paint from the top down weather it's water based or oil.
Thanks for the tips😊😊
If possible, never paint in full sun , drys to quick plus reflection sheen damages eyes 👍
unfortunately this fence is always in full sun. Cheers!
Always in the sun , how is that possible 😂 .love your vids.
Reflections damage eyes?
It doesn’t matter if it’s oil based or water based, just THROW the bucket of stain at the fence and get in the cellar, before that tornado behind you hits
that was just a typical slow moving weather system. Cheers!

😁
Mr. Miyagi always said to go Up,down,up, down!!! 😂😂😂😂
Apply second coat right away for only oil-based? Behr acrylic stain says to apply second coat in one to two hours.
Much much much faster spraying it
Yeah bro, but also you have to roll it back every time you spray it
@@pantrokrator8310 no you don’t, you just need the right stain. I spray thousands of feet of fence every year. You need a true oil, not these cheap form filming products. Google “Stain and Seal Experts” and look into that to see what I mean
Spray when it's not your fence and you want to get to the next job etc. Brush when it's yours
@@irishcubs01Right! Brushing penetrates the surface!
Mr Myiagi would be very proud of you! Show me up and down!
Nah. Poor wrist technique.
Next episode.... Wax.
I use my Wagner sprayer.
Then I take baths outside in mineral spirits to get the overspray off 😂.
Why does it matter starting top or bottom with oil versus water-based?
Thank you sir! Love your content!
which is it 3 minutes later or right away
What prep do I need to do if the fence is already a year old
Hi what stain did you use? Very beautiful
I knew I could come here to find what I needed.
Thank you! Just subscribed
Can water base be used outside?
Spray then back brush
How often do you need to reapply an oil based stain? Looking for low maintenance, something I don't have to do every year😅 my wood fence goes all the way around 1/2 acre.
Put water on the fence. If it soaks in it needs more if it beads up you're good. Recheck 1-2 times per year. I like to reapply in late summer.
Well, that was interesting
This guy can do anything 😂❤
Why bottom up if you're using an oil based stain?
Yeah. Been painting for a decade. I’m calling BS on that one.
If you drip , those drops will penetrate to lower sections.
By the time you coat the lower sections, those drops will telegraph through the finish.
If you coat bottom up, and drip, it can easily be brushed in, no tell tale signs.
Just my experience
@terrapinjonathan. If you're seeing drips it mean you're applying to heavily. Also if it's absorbing and darkening under drips you need only apply more stain which will darken everything to match your drips. Long story short use more stain. Or be careful not to drip.
What do you think about using a sprayer?
I have been thinking of that design of your fence
Is this fence the exact same on the other side??
We all saw Karate Kid. I expect to be able to choose a classic car as a reward when I'm done with that.
Nice. That's the only way to stain a fence for excellent coverage and minimal use of product.
How long does water based stain need to dry on a fence before rain ?
Stain/ paint all parts of a wooden fence before assembly especially the cut outs and joins ..
The only comment here that is worth a shit. Thank you sir or ma'am. Probably sir
Dude must be an only fan subscriber to refer to wood stain as content
Why water base “go from the ground up”?
Because “water base” is very thin and will run down. So trying to brush upwards with a water base will make ur job harder and messy
Or get a pump sprayer put it on mist
I wouldn't do it when there's a storm brewing though pro tip
Hi, what brand and colour shade is that stain? Thanks
I sprayed my fences... much better, as I had a load to do👍
Great vid! Do you need to sand fist also?
After cleaning the wood and before applying the stain, yes you should sand
If you are sanding your fence you're wasting time. Unless you really care about the finish do not sand. The boards come from factory pre sanded...usually. it's up to you tho. A sanded finish will absorb less stain and less water so...😊
Thanks man I tryna make some money under the age of 14 and I can do this
Good for you. Make some money the right way. But please quit short cutting words and phrases like TRYING TO. TRYNA is never going to be a word. EVER! I find it just lazy to not type it all out. And for that I wouldn’t hire you.
Don’t think about it to much when your staining just do it
Can I put a second coat the following day?
What if it’s painted and is peeling?
Always an oil base stain!
out of curiosity, why do you say that?
@@rachel705oil base last longer, applies easier and more forgiving if you’re not perfect
@@ozzy2753It does last longer. It is not more forgiving and oil based is more difficult to clean. My rule of thumb is if it's exterior always use oil. Interior doesn't matter.
How long do I have to wait between putting up the fence and when I can stain?
It depends on the moisture content of the wood. Either buy a cheap moisture meter or guess. If the wood is heavy it is too wet. Let it dry and stain in late summer.
Pro tip: big board left hand, small board right hand… you’d know that if you watched Karate Kid!
I’m going re-stain my deck but can’t I just use a power washer to get the small layer of mold off and then stain it? Do I absolutely have to sand it too?
For deck tops yes you should sand it. Use a 6 inch variable speed orbital. Start at 60 to 80 grit and finish with 120 or 150 max. It goes pretty quick.
That brush is 95 percent of the job lmao i need one been doing my fence for 2 days
And a cooler filled with beer and ice.
The coating is called "Material." The "Content" is this video.
Uffffff
roller only. only roller. will not change my mind
Why top down water bottom up oil that makes no sense?
Depending upon what era you're from:
"Uuup!!........ Daaon!!..... Uuup!!...... Daaon!!"...
Doesn’t water base wash off with rain??? 🤷🏻♂️
So no pre-treatmnt?
Shouldn't this be done without the sun beating down on it? Or is that just paint?
It depend on how hot it is but yes in a perfect world shade is preferred.
What brand and colour is this paint?
Wrong, use a sprayer and 3 minutes later the whole fence is done and you back watching football 😂
Why two different directions
Water base well maybe last 2/3years
Why not spray it
I saw a video recommending leaving a fence for a time, or treating with oxalic acid to remove some tannins/treatments before staining, what are your thoughts ?
My husband bought our fence a year ago, and the guy at Home Depot told him to let it "cure" for 1 year before staining it.
As soon as your fence is installed you should immediately check the moisture content (
How do you test for moisture content ? I just had a cedar split rail fence put in and I want to stain it before it turns gray.
@@larainewoodruff3739 it's not something I did myself, hopefully one of the other ppl may be able to give some guidance. In the UK the guidance usually revolves around how recently the boards were treated. But in the US I think cedar boards aren't usually treated beforehand. I think you'll need some specific guidance for cedar boards in the US/Canada, and it may vary on region depending on sun intensity/season
@@louisleroux3556 thank you 😊
Is that u Mr Miyagi 😊
Size matters guys.
And start when it looks like rain?!😅
What color is that?
If you don’t put enough content up on the fence the algorithm will dry up your exposure real fast.
Media?
I learned how to do this watching karate kid & walked away with a secondary skill.
What was the paint called
