Wait, what, I should have been bored after 10 games of Star Realms? - someone who's played >2000 games on the app, where probably half of those were just the base game... I'm sure the deckbuilding in Robot Quest Arena will be good, but I'm not sure whether I'll like the skirmish elements. Many deckbuilders shine at two players, and I wonder whether the arena elements might be AP-prone or feel a bit tedious after a while when it's just two players. Also, I just realized Wise Wizards could've been in your video about publishers engaging with the community - they stream at least twice per week and seem quite nice overall :)

Really happy to see a playthrough even though I instantly knew I'd back it when I heard I could get what's basically a Deckbuilder Robot Wars. (Also was sad you guys didn't know it. I was obsessed with that and Junkyard Wars as a teen. I bet Junkyard Wars would be a cool board game.)
When i did see it, I was hoping for something more similar to Mechs vs Minions. Instead of cards that give energy, there should be cards for moving and turning. Then there could also be instant cards that let you react to enemies that want to attack you. Maybe something like a sidestep which causes that bullet to hit the enemy behind you instead. Such great potential, but i think overall the game is too simple for me.
@@john9801 I don't mind that it's simple. It's supposed to be a light fun game. I feel like having to rely on drafting the right cards for moving and turning sounds like a buzz kill. Having reactive cards sounds nice but it goes against how deckbuilders work. Maybe you could have a reaction card you play face-down in front of you and it can be used until your turn comes back around? I feel like people would just be nice to you that round, just in case. It'd be hard to have reactive stuff in a deckbuilder.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun playing this =) I always keep a lookout for fun games like this to play with my family who are not as much into the higher end strategy games. What are your thoughts on this game versus Super Fantasy Brawl?

I didnt see any replies so i hope I'm not too late. But Carthage is a gladiatorial arena combat deckbuilder. And has tons of fun extra modules to check out that come w the base game
Hey Alex, this looks pretty similar to Ignite (of which I'm a backer). How do you think this compares to Ignite and do you think there is enough room for both in someone's collection?
@BoardGameCo I think a "Mechs vs Minions" style movement would have been more interesting. My impression is, that it's too easy for players to maneuver with just having energy. Another interesting thing would be to have a 2vs2 mode to make choices more strategic. With a free for all, choices are not as meaningful in my opinion. If you do great plays and get a lot of points, I'd assume the other players would team up. But for a family game that's not a bad thing. Just not what i would be looking for.
I don't disagree at all, I think this is just a lighter weight game in that sense. Which will make it more accessible to many, but it's also why I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm getting it or not.
The game actually DOES include rules for a 2vs2 mode! Additionally 2 players can play with 2 bots each using one shared deck to control both bots. This is my favorite way to play and is aimed at advanced players. Once you start adding more expanisions and bots you can even do 3vs3 or 2vs2vs2. We are also working on even MORE game modes for the future like capture the flag and more!
I am very interested in RQ:A. Its mechanics seem somewhat similar to Tiny Epic Mechs but better, and its theming looks nicer, and is especially way more cute! It very much reminds me of robot themed Pokemon-likes of yore, namely Robopon and Medabots, tho I only ever watched the Medabots show way back when. In any case, this is a probable purchase for me.
'For the record', no one is watching these videos or any others 'concerned' about whether those at the table are vaccinated or not. We all just assume, assuming anyone even thinks of it, that you are making reasonable decisions about your own health that are the best for you.

It's a fun little game. Definitely lighter, at least the core we played, but still fun.
BoardGameCo and Quackalope need to simply merge channels. I like both channels but they tend to form like Voltron when they combine.
We're like summer....if we were here all the time you wouldn't appreciate it as much ;)
