I think this is about how some have put themselves so far out there, or gone out too far on a limb to find what they're looking for, not knowing where the edge of madness exists.
In case anyone doesn't know.. The mighty Joe Barresi (tool) mixed this album.. Absolutely love this track. So stoked for this album. Thanks for creating yet again.. another jar of ear candy.
I feel like the last producer Dave Fridmann gets a bad rap... those mixes weren't the worst I've ever heard, but I can't deny they were victims of the loudness war.
@@Grymgar I agree.. I liked those albums as well. Sure the drums were over compressed. But that's the sound they were going for. I have a $5K car stereo system and both albums sound killer on it.
Yes, I can only agree. It has everything a Baroness song needs, but like the previous ones it has new elements. The guitar sound is amazing. I get a western vibe on some parts 😅. Love it.
Saw these dudes in a basement back in 04-05'. Ceiling tiles coming down from the sheer riffage, hot and muggy as can be, the collective smell of a bunch of midwest youth...been a fan ever since. I love hearing the little call backs to first/second, those riffs are crushing. Rhythm section is on point as always. What a great band, dang. So bomb. ETA*When are we going to get BARONESS x [Insert Orchaestra of your choosing]. If NOFX can do it, Baroness would absolutely kill it.
My Favorite peoples! We cant wait until Webster Hall again! One of the friendliest bands you will ever meet. We saw them 3 times so far and met them three times, that's how nice they are! I rock Baroness shirts continually and wore them on TV a few times. This sounds amazing so far going to listen several times i'm sure... We are so happy for Stone!
Beautiful ! I've been listening to Baroness since the Blue Album came out and they just keep gettin' better. The spoken word section, like Beneath The Rose, is a nice change. The production is crisp and full and as much as people complained about the production on Gold & Grey, I never did. When I first saw the video for Tourniquet in June 2019, I was instantly hooked and I get that kinda vibe with Shine. Gina has continued to impress and is doing a wonderful job. I'll be seeing them here in Montreal in November and I absolutely cannot wait. I'm sure the tshirts will be an arm and a leg, but I don't care... I'll be sure to bring a saw lol ! Already have Stone pre-ordered... Cheers Baroness, for delivering on another soon to be classic !
Dave Fridmann is out, these songs were all premixed by John and then sent to Joe Baressi for final polish. They did a far better job with the sound this time (though I still love the last two records and don't really agree with every single criticism).
Damn this title feels good! We don't want it to end. Gina and John fit perfectly. The voice arrangements are different from other albums, it brings freshness to the whole. The guitars are beautiful, inventive, harmonious, epic. The processing of guitar effects is fair and subtle. The riffs are a clever mix of old school with a modern twist and Nick and Seb's rhythm is unstoppable, as always...Baroness is a great group that has offered a form of renaissance with the arrival of Gina Gleason, who I find incredible as a guitarist. , singer and with a luminous stage presence. This album looks promising. ❤🤘🏻
I listened to it 2 days ago when it first came out for a few hours, and I was blown away. It came down yesterday , and now I found it again. Finished listening it for the second time and I am still in awe...
Gold and Grey was more experimental and I feel like the current batch of songs are more polished and refined. I loved Gold and Grey, my favoite overall is the double album Yellow and Green tied with Blue Record... this newer stuff feels like those records in that things are focused.
The 3 songs so far grabbed me more than Gold and Grey. For me this is a return to form (sorry to say it). You’re still one of my fave bands. Looking forward to a tour of UK/EU and maybe some festivals on this side of the Atlantic in 2024? Can’t wait to catch this and all your classics live :)
@Baroness I saw you all w/ Mastodon as a last minute fill in at Rams Head Live! In Baltimore, Maryland on their Crack the Skye tour; I believe in 2010 slightly before Your tragic and heartbreaking tour bus accident. I Rembert you, John sending the people on your email list the x-ray of your broken arm. I'm glad all is well with you all and that you've kept the band rolling and I can't wait to see you all at Baltimore Soundstage on Friday, October 13, 2023!!! Baltimore loves Baroness!!!
This one drove me to finally pre-order the vinyl. Not that the other songs weren't good but it's three in a row now so I'm sure the rest will be good as well. Also the mixing finally sounds so good and captures all the nuances of the Band's sound. Love it!
Umm so yeah, there's still artists making art like this music. You may not be snapping your fingers to it and there's hardly any accompanying BTS like dance moves involved. What a great musical journey that demands your attention as you listen. Almost as if the music and it's emotions are the most important aspect....
This new album is going to be amazing. You guys are the best. I will be going to see you in Boston even if it is on a Tuesday night. I'm sure it will be a transcendental experience, as always!
Stunning, epic waves of sound, from it's gentle beginning until you feel like you're heading for a crash, then the ending arrives with just a hint of Cathedral blissfully singing out a melody with volume swells. Excellent!
wow, sounds great. Ever since I heard Morningstar back in 2016, you guys have been my favorite band. The evolution of the Baroness sound is exciting. Thank you, guys! and good luck on the tour!
The songs for the new album have been great! Each one is perfect! This album's gonna be the best!! Wish I could see you guys play again, I saw you in Sao Paulo em 2018, it was amazing! Hope to see this song live!
Gina was a fantastic addition to the band, her vocals compliment John's perfectly, there's no real need to mention the rest of the band - they're consistently brilliant - no change there!
Looking forward to the new album! Can’t wait to see you in Buffalo, although I wish you would do a show closer to Syracuse so I wouldn’t have to drive so far. And Gina has easily become one of my favorite guitarists! Her solos are exquisite!
Shine - LYRICS We're barriers against the tide We're wonders that refuse to shine Blinded by eternal dark Like shadows on a shooting star There's a fallen anchor on a distant shore Where the boiling angels listen to the oceans roar Today I never saw the sun Today your shadow was the only one Did I go too far? Soaring higher and higher If I touch the sun will I shine forever? Did I cut too far? Digging deeper and deeper If I pass the shore will I slip away? Today I never saw the sun Today your shadow was the only one Today I never saw the sun Today your shadow was the only one We're barriers against the tide We're wonders that refuse to shine We're blinded by eternal dark We're anchored to the evening star We're deafened by the tolling bell We're dragging through the endless swell We're phantoms to the borderfire Like stallions to the wretched mile We're barriers against the tide We're wonders that refuse to shine We're blinded by eternal dark Anchored to the evening star We're deafened by the tolling bell Dragging through the endless swell We're phantoms to the borderfire Like stallions to the wretched mile
It's so interesting and different. I'm a little bummed you guys aren't coming close enough this tour for me to hear it live, but I'll be listening to the album on repeat!
Amazing song by my absolute favourite band - got a very Type-O negative vibe there at the end! Can't wait to see Baroness in person! Also, John, if you want to give a masterclass in painting, I would totally take it - the cover art, and I'm sure the whole album, is gorgeous and I'm continuously blown away by your talent
You guys never fail to deliver pure bliss to my ear drums, and your artwork is always stunning, as well. Freaking SICK tune! Thank you for this gift today!

And Gina's vocals really blend well with John's! That's not even including the fact that she's a maestro on the 6 string!!!
Always a great pleasure to dive into a new piece of Baroness. Long life and thank you for everything!
Thanks!
Agreed. I specially liked her left arm.
Something about this song reminds me a little bit of AFI for some reason
Top 3 Baroness songs ever. Holy shit this is a masterpiece
All three of the singles released for this album have been such heavy hitters. Looking forward to Sep. 15th B)
These three songs are such a stark departure from their previous works. But still so Baroness. But somehow better.

love to read stories like this
I NEED MOOOORE! Lol! love the heavy
They can't miss
Best Baroness song since Shock Me
how do they make songs like this the drums, guitars and vocals all blend together seamlessly, it was meant to be that way since the beginning of time
Holy 💩!!!!!!!!!
I want a Baroness/ American hitmen tour so bad.
Definitely loving the addition of Gina's vocals to Baroness!
Please come to England so I can finally see you guys

You put it very well. The varied vocal approaches and almost mystical riffage have me really anticipating the record.
Every new song I hear off this album makes me even more excited!! Can't wait for the full release!
Looking forward to hear this live!
WOWOOOOOW !!! ITS PERFECT MORNING SURPRISE
Another masterpiece! One of the few bands who still dare to do something new and unexpected. I love it!
I listened to it 2 days ago when it first came out for a few hours, and I was blown away. It came down yesterday , and now I found it again. Finished listening it for the second time and I am still in awe...
In awe of how shitty it is?
Yay🎉
Yeah! We'll be back. I'll buy the album for our car.
This album is gonna rule
Awesome song and production! I once wondered if my princeton can do metal and somehow ended up discovering one of my now favorite bands!
Feels like you’re pushing the gold and grey sound even further and taking your Melodies in really unexpected directions
Gold and Grey was more experimental and I feel like the current batch of songs are more polished and refined. I loved Gold and Grey, my favoite overall is the double album Yellow and Green tied with Blue Record... this newer stuff feels like those records in that things are focused.
@@Grymgar yellow and green is my favorite album too but I feel like Gina is so essential now that it feels weird naming a release without her

Pretty hard question) ❤
This is music. Sweet glorious music!
Another weird song that I find myself fond of -- The typical baroness experience :)
wow, i really like this! that album art is totally gorgeous
Can't wait till Webster Hall. See you all then😁
I bought my tickets as soon as I saw you were coming to my city.
The fact that the new songs sound amazing is just a bonus. ❤
This track induced a lot of mixed emotions, with melancholic refferences to Gold&Grey and Purple. Astonishing work, waiting for the whole release! ❤️
John loves his anchors, harbors, oceans, sea lungs... its all very nautical! I love it.
Baroness is the docks at the shoreline and Mastodon is the wild beast inside the sea 😈🐋
