- Back to Basics Street Photography - Canon 400D + 50mm POV
In this one we're taking it right back to basics with the Canon 400D / Rebel XTi and a 50mm f1.8
I take a walk through some industrial areas near to where I live and show that a super basic set up like this can produce great results.

Lovely images, rich colours. Old DSLR cameras still have worth. I really enjoyed this.
Thanks very much. It's really nice to use a camera that has minimal features and just focus on the pictures. Thanks for watching 🖖
Really love this series . Making street photography with the 400D , nice nice 👍.Give us more please!
Thanks very much. I really enjoy using this old camera so there's definitely going to be more👍
Thank you very much . I also have a 400 D and definitely will go back to the basic. I got a lot of inspiration by your videos. Thx again.
Thanks great to hear, have an awesome day 🖖
Yeah, you're right, we want more!
Great video David. Always love a good look around, even the urban/industrial areas. I love the shots of the old grungy buildings..Then you turn around and take a beautiful flower image. Great stuff as always mate! Hope you are doing well and having a great weekend.
Thanks, Paul. Hope you're doing well out there. I thought a walk around some of the grungy industrial areas would make a nice change and was quite happy with the variety of subjects I got.
Take care mate 🖖
Hi David, great vid , i have a 400d and just ordered a nifty fifty 😀
Can't wait for my 50mm to arrive. Awesome shots you got there!
The 50mm is a great lens to have on any system. Hope you enjoy it🖖
Hi David. I enjoyed that walk around. I still have my 400d, and have always thought that the colours it produced were quite special. I don't know how much processing you do, but the photos in this video reminded me just how much I like those colours!
I love the 400d, because despite its limitations, it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot with. I edit to varying degrees depending on what the image calls for but many of the images were edited using my free Clearly Autumn preset as a base and then dialed back a bit and then tweaked to suit the respective image. Thanks for watching 🖖
Great video David - I love the look of slightly tired industrial areas and particularly old industrial buildings, superb set of shots throughout the video, top stuff.
Thanks, Tim. I love the dystopian feel that stuff like this gives. I'm definitely going to be looking at some of the other areas around town like this.
Have a good one, mate 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Awesome, I'll look forward to those.
I enjoy your content and I hope you keep posting more please. Thanks
Thanks very much, Jesse. Have a good one, mate 🖖😁
That Camara is getting the job done! Great shots. Amazing what a good little workhorse the 400d seems to be. I Shot some stuff earlier today with mine( first day with it)..and I'm starting to get an idea of it's capabilities. It really offers quite a bit. The EFS 18-55 lens( stock lens) was actually very versatile and performed. I'm impressed with the camera for sure. Can't wait to try some other lenses. Great video.
Yeah I have that same 18-55 and it’s a pretty solid lens. The 50mm I use in this video is an absolute corker and relatively inexpensive.
Thanks for watching 🖖
Just found your channel. A refreshing non-pretentious Street Photography channel. Superb. I love non complicated vids of photo walks.... just the joy of making nice images. 😎📷👍 Earned you a sub that has 🙂📷👊👋
Appreciate that, Steve. Have a great day, mate 🖖
Been very much into seeing how older camera preform in today’s age, exactly what I was looking for.
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial more vids like this man! I find these interestin.
@@zoomimmortal9454 oh there's gonna be lots more 😁
Thanks for watching 🖖
Awesome vid!
Thanks very much🖖
Hello from Russia. Great videos bro, i love it. Cool postprocessing and photos, thanks!
Thanks very much🖖
You rock the nifty fifty 🖖
Haha, thank Alex. I kinda like it🖖😁
I'm considering between a canon 1000D and a canon Eos 400D - Both cost roughly the same would love to get your advice on choosing between the both of these :)
The 1000d is a little newer than the 400d and as such, it has a few more features in some areas while retaining the same resolution. Live view is a big one for the way I like to shoot so based on that alone I'd lean towards the 1000d. Thanks for watching mate 🖖
❤️
Bought a sony a300 thinking it would be better than the 400d but it wasnt as good as expected :(
Shouldve seen ur vids before buying.....
Ah that's rough. I've never used the a300, but the 400d for it's age is still awesome. Thanks for watching 🖖
I’ve noticed photographers set the camera with different options. Some use for example 1/1000 and other 1/900 or 1/800 in the same places and same lights. Is it really matter? No difference in pics? 14:35 for example
It all depends on what you're trying to capture (moving or still), how you approach editing and the capability of the camera used. I know with my Sony's I can push the iso higher and recover shadows more easily than with the 400d. The secret is, there are no "best settings".
The 2 photos around that time stamp were 1stop different in exposure, but in post I brought them to almost the same point. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial thanks, send me your new insta if you will do.
Hey I was wondering on the 400d what mode do u use and what filter because when I take my photos it looks very old
I use manual mode and the neutral profile, but I shoot raw so much of my look comes from the processing. As a base I often use the Clearly Autumn preset in my free pack and fine tune the images from there🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial thanks so much
Which mode are you using in this video???
I shoot Manual mode pretty much all of the time so I suspect that was the case here🖖
Is it possible to compare this set to Lukic LX5 ? ;)
Did you mean Lumix LX5?
@@DavidFlowerOfficial yep the great Lumix LX5
I don’t have the LX5 at the moment, but I should be receiving an LX3 tomorrow. Perhaps I can make something work with that👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial cool !
how to get stabilize image?
Steady hands and fast shutter speeds on a setup like this 🖖
which preset u use?
On the ones I used presets on, it’s my Clearly Autumn preset from the free pack on my website used as a starting point and edited from there 🖖
Nice walk... but... I would appreciate pics before and after postprocessing as you can do so much in postprocessing that it feels unfair to skip the originals...
I skip the originals because they’re irrelevant for the most part, not to mention that the video would end up being slideshow if I showed both lol. Processing has always been a part of the photographic process so this is a representation of what’s possible in a real world situation. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Look at it this way - as a potential buyer I would like to know how much work is there to add to have a decent result...
For most of these, my free Clearly autumn preset at 60%
Well tbh as I wrote it was a nice walk and I do appreciate that :) gonna try my own strenght then as I ordered 400D and probably am going to buy those lenses shortly ;)
Hi David, had your Instagram been hacked? I got a message asking for help, I only seen it in the early hours so no reply as yet but also are you really advertising Bitcoin? This is the last post on your feed too dated 26th May
Yeah it's not me, Brian. The account was compromised on May 22nd and it's lost. Report it as a scam and unfollow it, mate. I've tried to recover the account with no luck at all so if I return to Instagram it'll be a new account.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I thought as much, I’ve already reported it but I’ll go and unfollow it now as I’m following on my own two accounts and possibly our “ International Amateur Street Photography Group “ account too.
@David Flower, was your instagram account hacked? I received a message from your account asking for assistance to get your account unlocked.
Yeah, I've posted about it everywhere else. Just unfollow and report it as a scam 👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial You got it
@@TheBadBone23 Thanks, mate. Have a good one 🖖
