Using A Canon 400D / Rebel XTi in 2022 - Challenge

  • What's it like using a Canon 400D in 2022? I went to the Humber Bridge with my Canon 400D / Rebel XTi and gave myself 10 minutes to take as many photos as I could. This was good fun and a little scary all at the same time and while the photos are mostly of the same thing and maybe a little on the rubbish side I did enjoy myself.
    The little rebel camera, the 400D, isn't a bad camera at all and while it's a little old and outdated the image quality isn't actually all that bad.

    Really enjoyed this Chris! By not looking at us viewers, I got a sense you were literally talking to yourself and this video gave us a view into the mind of Chris. I tend to talk to myself on shoots as well and this video brings a sense of realism and your unedited thoughts. Well done. Glad you are challenging yourself to try new approaches. I need to draw some personal inspiration from that.

      Thanks Jim. I talk to myself more than I probably should! At least I managed to keep the swearing away from it. I really just wanted to try a new approach and see how this kind of video would work. I want to try something more landscape orientated but I need to work out the details first.

    I use an XTi as my main shooter. picked it up about 12 years ago and just never got around to using it that much. Got back into it lately and been banging out some great shots. just grabbed the plastic fantastic yongnuo as a cheap intro to prim lenses. And been loving it!
    Been torn between upgrading to a 5d mk 2 or a Rebel SL2. I do street photography and would love to have that articulating screen. But the full frame is such a juicy temptation...
    idk, is there like a inbetween?

      In terms of sensor size the 1D series have an in between APSH size. I’ve had the SL2 and it’s a great camera. Full frame cameras are big and bulky and for street I’d always go for a smaller body. Have a look at an A6000. David Flower on here uses one for street photography if you want to see what they can do.

      @@ChrisBaitsonPhoto I'll probably never go away from Canon EF mounted cameras both for, not wanting to change ecosystem. A for budgeting reasons. As $600 CAD is like the top end of what I could spend.
      it's basically why I got those 2 cameras in my sights. It just comes down to specs , full frame or articulating screen.
      street isn't my only type of photography. I kinda do a lil of everything. So size really ain't a issue, I got rather large hands.
      The articulating screen of the SL2 only makes awkward low angle shots more accessible(I've gotten my knees and elbows dirty a few times while on trails lol). And has far newer image processing n iso range.
      While the 5d mk 2 is only a step up from the XTi in image processing. But , is a full frame and a respectable iso range . While also staying with CF memory....
      Ugh , it's so tough lol

    Thinking of buying one of these, just for a laugh, they are like £15/20 on ebay, going to try use it for my bird photography with a super tele zoom (150-600) will look funny with a tiny body attached to it - but from a weight point of view, quite appealing, mainly use the 7dmk2 for my birding ventures, so may give this 400d a trip out if I get one.
    I remember the 350d (my first dSLR) - I also have a 10d, which I may also revive and bring out for the birding stuff, I do use this 10d from time to time, still great (I did comment further down on the 10d body and the lovey BIG pixel sensor the 6.3MP's have) Great video mate.

      The 350D was my first camera - I had 2 of them in the end and loved using it. The 400D is a step up - if you can call it that by todays standards though. It’s a fun little camera to use but next to your 7D2 it will definitely feel…. A bit plastic. I think I paid about £30 for mine for a laugh. I’ve not used it since this video mind you.

    Amazing video,you can take a good photo on an entery level dslr with a L lens i did one on a 700d with a 16-35mm f4/L and walked away with a sunrise

      I love my 16-35 2.8 and on an APS-C sensor it’s actually a really usable focal length for a walk about. I might try one with the 7D and that lens now you mention it. Thanks for watching Adam.

    What do you think about the 10D in 2022 is it worth buying with a cheap 50 mm to do photography with it
    Well we are in the Mirrorless world but the 10D for those who don’t have money to buy the latest gear
    So what do you think about it
    And it will be nice if you can get your hands on one so you can give us your thoughts since you are a very good canon user
    Thank you

      10d is insanely sharp and small. A lot of fun. I shoot with 30d sometimes for the same reason.

    • @ChrisBaitsonPhoto
      @ChrisBaitsonPhoto  2 роки тому +1

      The 10D is probably not something I’d go for in 2022. It was a great camera back in 2003 but times have moved past it now. Even this 400D is years ahead. That being said they’re reasonably priced and if you can afford one then pick one up and I’m sure you’d love using it.

    • @dunnockdan
      @dunnockdan 2 роки тому

      Use my 10d still, take it to shoots, and experiment with it, mainly shoot on 5d's for work, but great to bring this classic along - clients never know the difference, quite fun. Wouldn't rely on it in a pro setting all day, but with a good piece of glass and good lighting its very good, 6MP sensor is a lovely dreamy thing - with it being so slow, it slows you down as a photographer, which is something many forget about theses days in this 'fast paced / must get the job done ASAP' culture.

    I can’t believe that you are letting the camera handle the aperture. That setting makes more of a difference to your art that shutter speed. Also, you have an L lens. What is it?

    • @ChrisBaitsonPhoto
      @ChrisBaitsonPhoto  Рік тому

      Setting the shutter speed fast enough usually sets the aperture to wide open anyway so it’s a none issue for me. The lens was the 24-105 f4
