Love the subtle way of leaving a book in the table, I'm the kind of person that always will look at the book at Amazon :) Gödel, Escher, Bach in particular reminded me that I had it in the "to read list" for a super long time, but never got into it because... well, procrastination. It looks scary and there are many easier books. Let's see if putting a small slot of time to read a complex book helps me on that, doesn't matter it's 1 or 50 pages
    Ah, and great video btw!

i think this video just wrapped up everything that has never worked for me and why.
My life has always been variables of chaos, and many times I've created schedules only to never be able to complete them. But the answer is really quite simple: instead of loosing time trying to control time, it may be wiser to snatch time when the opening appears and run away with it to work on what you wanted/need to work on.
Takeaways and the outline for the system i think will personally work for me with this input:
    - Task i want to complete
    - Goal reminding me why im working on this task and what goal i am nearing by its completion
    - not to give myself many conditions and rules to completing a thing in a day, but rather to say i will give it my time and attention for an hour an tackle whatever comes in that time for it and to work on it consecutively when i can until it is done
    - - - -
The long version of my thoughts:
I think though that if you do not want to work on something, there is also a matter of motivation that you must remind yourself of. Why are you pursuing it anyways? What will doing this little thing help you to achieve? What is its meaning? When you cannot perceive it here, what does the future look like with that in it?
I think sometimes we get stuck in another sort of procrastination: the dread of dedicating a habit to working on something. That habit being something rather rigid and stiff, such as: "I will work on this thing everyday at this time and i will do so much work of it and have these steps to complete it..." sometimes there are so many conditions that you create in the rush to assume that these are the requirements you will need to complete it... when at the end of the day, it just needs your time and attention. So how long can you give it? How long can you look, and think about it? When other things come up beside it, it is harder to focus, so it is best to probably give yourself one task at a time. This is where probably is easier on the mind to say: "I will work on this thing for an hour a day sometime until it is done." It creates a much more positive and "I can do this" feeling. It helps you to believe that something is possible to achieve. You must discover your pace before you can plan it, and i think that planning such as that becomes more instinctual, a flow or process state that you do not need to think about. And in such a case, i think that this may be more efficient than consciously thinking about it, depending on what that process is. If it is a very important step though, a simple stickynote of tasks might be useful. Sometimes working long hours, you can miss something. and having it at your side when you finish is helpful to double check and make sure nothing was missed.
Maybe that does not quite work for deadlines, but if alleviating stress is the most important thing besides dedicating focus and excitement towards the task, (perhaps you are doing personal work for example) it may wrap itself up timely anyways. It is always harder to decide when something should be done, until you have gotten enough practice in doing it when you have created the new environment and habit to do it. Sometimes, something is just done when it is done. Perhaps this is more suited to creative fields though, I am not sure. For me, I am just searching for a way to achieve personal goals when i have so many worries and ocd's in the way!
Focus and concentration is hard to attain sometimes for all the multitasking seems to rid one of that flowstate required to embrace a topic and completely explore it. Drawing, writing, etc.
Task management has always been difficult and defeating for me. But this rather simple solution sounds like something that i could actually do. Maybe alot of times, we know the answer, but just keep looking because we assume that what is most natural to us can't be efficient. But software like Obsidian.md perhaps has gotten me to understand the way i think and make connections, and identifying the way you work naturally, vs the artificial or any pressure of expectation or how you should do something, is going to be key in freeing yourself and being able to achieve your goals.
    Thank you for your videos!

Who's procrastinating while watching the video for overcoming procrastination?
Motivation is a fickle fleeting emotion. But discipline is a skill you can actually improve with. Waiting for motivation may leave you with an incomplete project.

One problem with the time based method i’ve encountered is that that the subconscious relief you get before starting the hour or so of study, “because I only have an hour, easy enough”, converts to me not getting the most out of the study, and makes me not work as hard because “I’ve only got 20 min left”. This develops a distraction through the awareness of time. This is especially prevalent when studying subjects I’m not particularly interested in. It creates a blindness to the effectiveness of the time spent studying sometimes, thinking that all “hours” of study time are equal. You have to find a good time, environment and state of mind to get the most out this method. Also for how long you study is incredibly important. Too long and your effectiveness goes down, and too short and you may not get enough from the subject. It’s a good method nonetheless. I really want to expand on the use of the “Yin Yang” method to see it’s results in comparison.

i think i procrastinate when i forget why i am doing something. so constantly remind yourself of how it will help you get to the desired outcome so you know why what your doing is important, but also so you have a way to know if it is still important if it, lets say, takes more time then expected and becomes infeasible. else doing any project just feels like a leap of faith when you start which isnt sustainable. or youll get carried away trying to solve a problem deeper then you need to to finish your homework for example because you forgot why you are solving it in the first place in the process of solving it.
like often when i catch myself avoiding something and i ask myself "what is the goal right now?", it takes a second for me to recall it, which means i probably forgot which is why i am procrastinating.

It seems to me that either underconfidence or overconfidence/boredom regarding the task is causing people to postpone it as something unpleasant. That is probably why these adjustment techniques can be quite effective. But I am also wondering if predominantly dopaminergic types of people are prone to procrastinating, since they are driven by novelty and spontaneity.

your proposed solution is ACT - acceptance and commitment therapy. You're treating the "I'm procrastinating" thought the same as one would the intrusive thought.

Here I am to disagree with you about what procrastination actually is and it's cause, I know your channel is about neuroscience, but I am surprised you didn't mention the overall cause of procrastination.
First I also have to state that I have severe depression, so my personal experience may not make sense to neurotypical people.
I know there is a paper about cause of procrastination(or about motivation?), but I can't find it or recall it's title.
The cause of procrastination isn't because what you want to do is difficult or boring, rather it's unattractive to the brain compared to other tasks, those tasks are interpreted by the brain as positive for your natural survival instinct, and the ones you don't want to do aren't as obviously helpful to your survival from the perspective of human brain.
Do you see animals out there doing things they don't want to do? in most cases no, we are also animals but procrastination is a modern thing, and human brain does not understand why you want to be "successful" at weird things like math or school or work. Well at least if there are things that are more attractive to brain, like sleeping to conserve energy or watch TV for easy dopamine hit.
Some people don't procrastinate because their environment simply don't provide the brain with those easier options, the best entertainment they could get might be reading boor or studying, or it's their work.
That means brain has a priority list, whatever releases the most dopamine is at the top, and brain will send negative signal if you refuse to do it.
I am typing way too much than I was expecting to type, anyways from those knowledge I gained over my whole life, because I had extreme procrastination when I was young also because of my depression, and it made my depression even worse as well. But I did succeed at not procrastination after I setup environment by using web blocker to block sites like youtube, and found ways to stop other pointless activity I could do the thing I wanted which is studying.
And I will tell you telling yourself "just do it!" is the worse way to go about it, it's like telling your brain to "kill" itself by doing "non-survival" things.
