We certainly do learn from mistakes. But...you can only teach yourself to keep your own hand from the fire, others must learn it for themselves, and some never do.
The bad things that happen to us are not always a cause of something that we personally did wrong. Some days it’s very much as if someone else had hold of our arm and is forcibly holding in the fire. The bad things that happen do not always have a good reason. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of hateful, evil, selfish people trying to force their misery and darkness onto others.
There’s precious little we can do about those moments and I still haven’t learned how to avoid them. Seems like it’s less of an actual lesson, and more of a test in perseverance.
I wish I had the answers. But thank you once again for your words of wisdom, John. ❤️

I have to stop myself from going down a negative path whenever I wake up. I’m very hard on myself and expect so much of me too. John’s voice speaks from his gentle soul. I’ve just started Rich Hanson’s course on Neurodharma which is helping me get to where John has in his years of meditation. He’s an amazing man.

Or haven't the ability to articulate their own past experiences into words? So much remains unspoken. Thanks to Phil & John for preserving these masterful expressions of one's experiences. These uploads are precious to us and for generations to come. Warm regards, Joan

      Totally agree.
My grandparents left their country with the clothes on their backs n took long overcrowded boat ride to America. The settled on East coast, but ultimately resided in Utah.
There must be so much that they had experienced thru all of that travel. Sadly, they neither documented ( journals) nor did they share their stories verbally. Now done and dusted now. They've passed and took all with them.
      Phil and John THANK YOU.

I think sometimes because people are too nice. Yes, indeed, there is such a thing as being too kind, excessively polite, or always trying to do the right thing. This should not be confused with turning sour, greedy, or just downright evil. Irrespective of your religion, you need to balance out things in life. Sometimes we need to be rude, shout out loud.
