With so many algorithms firing these days to ensure our cars run optimally, it's one of the few remaining human control elements of driving that is both hard to do properly and is so rewarding when we do. @Τζάκ Τζόκ In a manual, when you disengage the clutch and release the throttle, your engine RPM drops, but when you downshift at a given speed, the RPM needs to go up. So you blip (quickly open and release) the throttle to get the RPM up before you engage the clutch, resulting in a smooth downshift that doesn't jerk the car around. Heel and toe downshifting like what you see in the video is just a way of doing that while braking.
