Hello there!
My name is Kathryn Layne!
Being the youngest of three girls meant there were always different CD's playing at the same time from three different bedrooms. I was introduced to all sorts of different music, but I gravitated towards jazz, blues and world music. I would listen to the "Woman On Top" soundtrack on repeat, or Seal's first album released in 1991 while I would ride my bike in a continuous loop. I never found myself getting in to the "Top Hits" or any other genre other than what I knew I enjoyed.
Which means there is SO MUCH to catch up on!! I realized how much more out of the song I got when my husband would have me sit, stop, and focus on a particular song he enjoyed. Being a busy mom, this blew my mind with how I was able to really feel and experience new music. Without the distractions I finally felt the art that is unique to every single song.
I absolutely love music and I can't wait to really take a moment to focus on new songs that I have never heard before. Please feel free to comment with a song(s) you would like for me to listen to and remember to stay kind and peaceful in the comment section.
Thank you so much for watching and being a part of this journey with me!

This song hits even harder when you realize he wrote it because he was afraid the drugs were going to kill him. He says “I didn’t feel a thing” because he assumes he’ll die to an overdose, and he very nearly did once. The song was written out of desperation and I think that makes it even more powerful, especially considering he did eventually get clean.
Source?
@kylespeirs6510 it's kinda common em knowledge at this point
It reminds me a lot of Juice Wrld. Two GOAT's imo. Not afraid to be vulnerable & share their deep secrets. 999
And this was released in 2005. A year before Proof died and 3 years before the OD that almost killed Em. He was already this self-aware of the spiral he was going down, but still couldn't stop it.

As fans say, you want fun, listen to Slim Shady, you want skill, Eminem, you want emotion, listen to Marshall.
Never heard that before, but I like it
Do fans really say t hat?
@self-righteousideologue9398 it's an amalgamation, but it hold true.
hell yeah to that
they also say is you want legit crazy listen to kim or 97 bonnie and clyde. hes very good at expressing whatever emotion he wants.
The talent Eminem has is unbelievable. Best artist of all time
🐐
True
of all time is pushing it but definitely one of the best.
best rapper? maybe
best artist? of course he isn't
@JT of course he is
Eminem is without a doubt one of the most brilliant lyricists of the last 20 years. His more serious work has moved me like no other music has.
one of the most brilliant lyricists EVER
@@thiagomendonca2701 Amen!
he is modern shakespeare
Yeah, I studied English Literature at university and have spoken on a global broadcast for the Tolkien Society. I have analysed a lot of text to a high level in my life. Eminem, in my opinion, is the best lyricist of the modern age - and I don't think it's that close. If you go back a bit further in time you find a few people that can challenge him. I don't personally enjoy plays, but Shakespeare is maybe the GOAT of lyric, blank verse and linguistic mastery, but Eminem is the closest we have in the modern age IMO.
EVER!
He wrote this song on the height of his drug addiction, losing his bestfriend, divorcing his wife and his super stardom overnight took a really bad toll on him and he actually thought he was going to die, and this song his actually a good bye note to his daughter.
Why a good bye? To his daughter?
@@ShivamSingh-bx9cp this is basically what BAKI explains😂
@@DFerro-kb9qh I swear some people have absolutely no comprehension skills whatsoever 💀
This song was released in 2005. proof died in 2006
Bruh this is all totally wrong.
The part where he says "how can it be, that curtain is closing on me" gives me chills. That dream is the death of the shady persona. These days I've heard he treats the studio work like a 9 to 5 job.
Yeah I heard that aswell an artist went to his studio 12pm he went away for an hour for lunch 5pm came and this artist (can't remember who) asked whats next eminem said tomorrow 9am I'm going back home now
@@chrissim9982 It was Akon while working on their song together Smack That. Em would turn up at 9am, lunch at 1pm for an hour and gone by 5pm to spend time with his family. Em doesn't want his career to take away his time that he gets to spend with his family. You can hear Akon talk about it here ua-cam.com/video/azbRijeSWJI/v-deo.html
How many celebrities talk about being a distant, self-absorbed parent? His enormous and undeniable talent aside, his brutally honest self-awareness makes him almost uniquely great.
If you wanna hear another great storytelling song by Em, Deja Vu is one about how his drug addiction spiraled out of control. It's a much different vibe but it's scarily accurate if you've ever been through addiction of any kind.
Deja Vu is one of my favorite songs in every genre
One of the best
@@calibur3067 Yeah, he's got many. Deja Vu is still one of my favorite songs. Is there something wrong with that?
@@calibur3067 what are you even saying
Best song from the relapse album imo
I cry every time I hear that masterpiece. Don't worry we all get those chills just like you. I don't want to think of the day ... well I can't even say it I don't want it to happen. This song will be heard all over the world.
same here,I literally burst out in tears when the chorus starts,I just can’t handle the idea of the day that Em’s gonna be gone
There's a reason why all the great rappers (from Snoop to 50cent), when they're asked "Who's the greatest among you?", they'll say: "That's gotta be Em!" And the respect on their faces when they say that, shows they seriously mean it!!
Lol. Snoop is not a great rapper
snoop has literally never said that lol, 50 for sure had but Snoop dont even have Em in his top 10.
@@alolandonaldtrump8368 Snoop judges base on skin colour as much as i like his music .
No they don't do it. JAY-Z and Nas are better than him anyway.
I felt those goosebumps a milion times listening to him...
"All of this time I couldn't see, how could it be that the curtain is closing on me" is one of the impactful lines I've ever heard, that gets me every time, knowing what he was going through...
Eminem has that great ability to make you feel everything deeply.
First hear this song I was a teen. Ten years later when I have a daughter this song really hit my chest 10x harder. Damn.
Idk what it is, I feel like it's just the emotion in his voice on this track, but my eyes get teary almost immediately. True artistry.
The greatest rapper alive for me, I’ve been listening to Em for over a decade now, people got their own thoughts and opinions on him, bout his so called “downfall”. He’s always been a great lyricist and a smart one, on the mic, all he wanted was the respect of his peers, and the old school rappers paid the respect. He got nothing left to prove, Longevity? Still dropping unreal numbers, ain’t no one par him, other than Kendrick, J Cole, and a few more, but he’s on his own level.
Yb better but Eminem’s great still
@@spiderboyneverbrokeagain4742 who

@velCROhash whose on ems lvl I’ll wait
Been listening to Eminem since he came out when I was in high school and he’s definitely best alive and dead or alive he’s #2 for me after 2Pac.
Every time I hear this song, I get teary eyed.
Great song and an honest story.
em‘s music is supposed to give you an emotional reaction.
he wrote this at a pretty horrible time in his life.
he thought he wouldn’t be around much longer..
almost died from an od in 2007 and came back stronger than ever a few years later 😊14 years sober this year
Em IS the "G.O.A.T", period! There is nothing he can't do! Every time I hear this song or watch the video, I am in that same state you were in after the reaction! It's such a moving and emotion song! And the story behind it as some of the comments touched on, makes it come to reality more. Great reaction! #StayAwesome
Sometimes he can make you laugh real hard and sometimes cry real bad and sometimes shocked just with his songs. That's how good he is.
An interesting thing about this song is that it was almost unanimously panned when it released back in 2005. If you check most review sites that reviewed this song, even today, they still hold mixed to negative scores for it. They were looking for witty humor and intricate rhyme schemes, which is what most of his other songs contained, but completely missed the point of WHY this song doesn't contain that. It's a real, honest statement from Eminem to his daughter, and presenting the message of choosing between fame or family. Incredible song, one of his absolute best. Thank you for reacting to it 🙂
Em is the greatest rapper of all time
"These can't lie" it's so true, I've never thought of that, you can't fake a goosebump
Привет, я когда его слушаю у меня тоже мурашки)), он просто лучший)
I love your genuine reaction to this song. It still gets me every time also. Eminem has the ability to tell stories that pull at your emotions like no other rapper. I look forward to all your other reactions.
Thanks for sharing the emotion. I love watching people getting really familiar with his music, and not just the character of Eminem.
This is one of his most touching songs and I love you for reacting the way we all react when he is actually being an amazing man
Eminem is unmatched in storytelling, rhymes, cadence, and conveying emotion with words
"Is the fame worth it", for him yes it is, nt for himself but because he has always said that hes wanted to give his kids the life that he never had. He grew up with nothing around violence and drugs, he flunked out of 9th grade 3 or 4 times, and yet just this year Hailie got married to a guy that she met in a great college where she ended up on the Deans list and with a degree, that she was afforded thanks to all the sacrifices Eminem had to make over his life and his dedication to staying sober for them. Not just for Hailie but for Alaina, Stevie and his younger brother Nate too.
He broke the cycles of poverty, of drug abuse, of school dropouts, and of absente fathers. Nobody can ever say He was a bad father. Hes a man that could and should be a rolemodel to fathers everywhere. I know if i ever end up a father i can only hope to be half the father he is.
Pure poetry, Eminem, the greatest artist to ever grace the earth handsdown.
I've probably heard this song close to 100x now and still get goosebumps everytime.
What a beautiful, emotional reaction. That was awesome
Eminem got me through tough times by far only rapper I can relate too. Best rapper alive in my op. Loved your reactions and keep ‘em coming 🫶🏼
Great reaction. 8 Mile Road is another awesome personal song by him.
Mockingbird is another really emotional song from him, but be ready to shed some tears again. 🙏
When music does this to you and resonates as a human being you know it’s good. Such an authentic reaction video 😄
I am so happy Em is ah amazing artist that came out in our time
Only true rap artist say original stuff & real shit
2:44 - Yes! Good girl! That was perfect! That reaction you had when the girl was trying to show her Dad something by Dad was too busy and brushed her off was perfect! That reaction tells me a lot about you. It shows me that you're a very good person!
As a man with three daughters this song always gets to me . Classic Eminem song right here . Great reaction sis
Damn the way the song sounds in exact this video, of her reaction, sooo cool sounding that's so damn great 😮
When Eminem raps it makes me feel powerful his music is amazing
When it comes to the part where Hailie stands in front of the stage, that always makes me cry
One of the most beautifully written rap songs ever made , not many can bring you to tears and that’s why he’s Eminem . Love your reactions it’s like watching my sister hear music I’ve showed her for the first time haha subscribed
I always find it amazing to see people reacting to Eminem for the first time. I listen to him growing up and he has been my favorite artist since I could remember. I grew up using his music as a way to cope with what was happening in my home. I always find it crazy when I find new people who have never heard his music before.
Hip Hop and Rap has artists who spit real fast and are talented.
Em is a poet. His rhyme scheme, his cadence, his flow, he takes you on a ride and makes you retrospect life itself. He is a genius.
good reaction! this song always gives me chills, just a tip when you pause an eminem song you should rewind about 5 or so seconds because you'll miss what he's saying if he's in the middle of a line or a bar or setting up a new rhyme scheme etc 👍
I will! Thank you so much!
@@KathrynLayneReacts Just press the "J" key! I'm loving your reactions... there are only 8!!! Do more!! You are my new fave reactilater type person!
@@KathrynLayneReacts you should react to Kill a Mockingbird, CanIbitch, Bully, Invasion Part 1,2&3, Quitter and RapGod by Eminem and you should react to the movie the Last Samurai with Tom Cruise
Everytime i hear this song it gets me like its the first😭😭 such a good song
he lost his best friend/hype man to a shooting in 2006, pretty pivotal moment in his work. I lost my best friend a few years back now, he was like an older brother, and it's just crazy hearing him rap about it because he just breaks things down in such a relatable way.
Its hits home for us recovering addicts who are now clean and being a good parent to their kids now when it always obviously that way! However my kids got me thru my addictions and now 5 years clean with now joint custody of both my kids, a 6 figure job and my own home so his music does more for so many ppl that most realize...
eminems honesty involving his personal life on certain songs is insane. One of the best to ever do it
It's just amazing that he can actually make us cry because his pain is so relatable
Songs like these that got me through 2016, the loss of my 10 month old daughter. Don't know what I would've done without music, the gym and my wife.
NF and Eminem were my go to. Specifically a couple of songs by Em you should check out.
Going Through Changes
Castle/Arose - back to back.
I was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning the day we buried her, that's where I can relate to Castle especially. It was close. 8 hour drinking binge will do that. Then I decided to stop drinking altogether after that night, Going Through Changes and Arose come in to play.
shit, brother. i’m so so sorry man, honestly. i can’t imagine what it feels like to lose a child. hope you’re doing better my guy🙏🏻 sending love !
@HÆ¥D£Ñ thank you so much. It will be 8 years in December, we learn to live with grief and keep her memory alive. My wife and I now have a 3 year old boy, and we have been together for 18 years. We helped each other through it.
@@gonzalocortez49 congratulations man, glad you’re happy. also glad you keep your daughter in your memory❤️
This song was on "Curtain Call: Greatest Hits" which came out in 2005. That album was originally intended to be his final album because at that time, he wasn't sure he was gonna make more music, due to his pill addiction and frustrations with fame, and then the death of his best and childhood friend Proof in 2006. He spiraled after that. O.D.'d in 2007, was 2 hours away from dying. His daughter Alaina found him unconscious on the bathroom floor.
He's been completely sober since late 2009, early 2010.
Now this is called masterpiece ✨ Now you show me any artist who brings so much of emotions in a song 😢
Amazing reaction! Keep the reactions coming, they're great!
such a beautiful face/soul reacting to this amazing song! I love it!
I really love that you don’t pause every 5 seconds and you really listen and take in the music, you’re doing it the right way.
Beautiful by Eminem
You are so genuine. Thank you for this reaction!
I am 35 yrs old now, and listened to eminem since i was a kid, since the mid 90s, and only now since the last release of him album really understood and realised this song even though i know every single word to it... Understanding the real difference between eminem, marshall and slim has really hit me now.
If you don't get the chills during this song are you even human?
6:28 is Hailie Jade, right of the child, eminems daughter
Em is genius within his versatility he’s not being silly for no reason is genius writing that’s why he has so many hit songs and is in the Top 10 Best Selling Artist Of All Time!🐐🔥(Please React to Eminem “Survival” Music Video)
Named my only child Hailey because of this man. His music is different. I’m glad this made you feel something.

“And just as I go to walk out of my bedroom door, it turns to a stage, they’re gone, and the spot light is on and I’m singing…” 😢😢

This time watching this reaction. I'm surprised now people don't feel this way when listening to this. This song still hits especially as we grow
Who’s here after he released the vidoe for “Temporary”, seeing how far he has come as a man, rapper and father is beautiful.
You may don't believe, but exactly when she had chills i had so.
One of the greatest songs ever!!!
I can only think of 2 Rappers that can even make a grown man cry with some of their music...

I absolutely loved your honest reaction! Please keep them coming!
As a grown man with 3 kids I still cry every time I hear this
One day this will hit different when Em is gone.
“Not the expression, literally give an arm for her” hits me every time. I have a few tattoos and I keep listening to this song. I’m not planning on having kids, but my cousin’s having a kid soon and I’ve always wanted to be an uncle. I have 2 older siblings, my brother is settling down so I probably will be an uncle soon, but I wanna be an uncle to my cousin’s kid either way, since she won’t have 2. I grew up not being told anything about my dead beat uncle, so I want to make up for her lack of a grandpa, but being a second uncle to her, as we won’t have have that either. So much family lost for a kid just cuz her grandpa decided he wouldn’t be a dad to the sweetest person I’ve known, and to not be a husband to the single sweetest and kindest woman I have ever known. I love my aunt so much. I think her being in or around the ghetto her whole life and being left with a kid young has made her a more understanding person. She’s so sweet, even without what she’s lived through she was the first person to be open to me directly about the possibility I could be queer. At my confirmation, I’m bi, and I had a padlock on my necklace. She said she liked my necklace and asked if it was symbolic for a girl, or guy to unlock it to reach my heart. I found that really sweet, even if I wasn’t bi that gesture is really sweet and more upfront than any of my family had ever been before
Just wanted to say I like your content. I am a die hard hip hop fan and Eminem is the biggest rapper for me of all time the 🐐. So thank you
Goosebumps can't lie. The only shame is that you didn't know this song earlier!!!
My friend was not a rap fan at all, thought it was dumb. I played him this. Chills all over. LMAO at you mentioning his funny songs before this one

His songs were the only thing i had in college, and I am forever thankful he got me through hell!

I love your reactions they're so cool very passionate about things and I must tell you Eminem is one of my favorites hes got so much. Intent stuff it's unbelievable that talent this guy has
this hits me a million times harder as a father .. damn it
Eminem is great like that, has a real way of painting a picture with his words. Same reason I like Tupac. Songs like "Mama's Just a Little Girl." etc.

Aww bless ya I’m same it’s so powerful this tune
I have to say "Darkness" is the most powerful video/song Eminem has ever done. Guaranteed to leave you silence. Wish more people would know it but it was amazing regardless of what people said it was
