Questions : 1) Is there different (rated) levels of track hardness ? 2) Do the park rangers ride quads / ATV's as well for access ? 3) Do you ever combine radio with your off-road forest adventures ? 4) Is there unwritten and written etiquette and procedure for operation of these ATV's and quads in regards to right-of-way and behaviour ? eg, who has to reverse etc.... :-)
Ade Larsen Hi Ade. 1) Yes, but I don't know what they are. There are so many trails that I suspect most aren't designated as to difficulty. 2) Yes. 3) Pretty much just APRS. 4) Absolutely! The person going uphill has the right of way, although the authorities emphasize the use of common sense. I've not yet run into an issue with that. Generally, there's a hierarchy of speed. Motorcycles fastest, then ATVs, then Jeeps. If there's someone behind you, let them go by. People are better-behaved on the trails than they are on the highways! Take a look at a post I wrote in 2011: dcasler.com/2011/07/23/high-country-etiquette-the-good-bad-and-ugly/

David Casler Thanks, I just read the article.
:-)
How do you get to the beginning of the trail from grand junction?
You need to come around and go up via Cedaredge. Then take the road that runs by the visitor center.
