    Widowmakers and going to bed clean are some I really identify with. We walk into the upper Selway and its thick and lots of it has burned so theres blowdown and standing widowmakers everywhere. Lotsnof firewood but those darn widowmakers are common

    Have slept in places where annual rain fall is 3+meters a year, and one tool that is invaluable is a small trenching tool(hand grubber,folding spade, hand trowel,etc).Once you're tent/shelter tarp is up, dig a drain around the drip line that will drain water away from the tent! Before going to bed!!! Nothing worse than try to dig trenches in 25mm/hr down pours!!!!

    Ok... I've been camping for years. I have noticed the movement to tents with no floor. What is the advantage to this? I feel like an open air tent has to be an issue with bugs. So I guess I'd be curious to hear more about why go this route with the sleeping roll instead of a tent with floor.

    • @CliffGray
      @CliffGray  3 місяці тому +1

      It’s mostly correlated to the use of stoves in tents, wood burning stoves. That use case is in slightly colder temps, less bugs. Lighter weight option.
      I still use a lot of shelters/tents with floors in the earlier seasons

    Such an important topic for a video that anyone who loves being in the outdoors can learn from.
    I will be going to Utah on my first ever western hunting adventure where I have the tag 🏷️ in my pocket.
    My cousin and her husband say that I can stay that I can stay in their house 🏠 but I am sure that their could be a couple nights in the 8-9 days that I would want to camp 🏕️ and then hike from there instead. These tips are invaluable. Thanks for sharing Cliff. 🤠

    Thanks for the vid! All great advice. 🙏🏼
    Do you have any advice about caching gear/supplies/food?
    I have always packed in and packed out EVERYTHING each scouting and hunting trip. But now that I have a few hard to get to and choice areas, I’d love to pack in some gear and leave it for the next years (and obeying all laws, no littering, etc….)
    I’m thinking camp chairs, stoves, cooking/eating gear, maybe even canned food? It would save my back and add a lot of comfort for sure if I could do it correctly.
    Thanks

    • @CliffGray
      @CliffGray  3 місяці тому +1

      Most folks that cache gear just find and old down stump and shove it in there. Reality is it has to be things rodent proof and mildew resistant… anything fabric, etc would get destroyed. Most common things I see are wood stoves, dishes, etc… most wilderness areas it is prohibited but many folks have done it over the years.

    I struggle with the cold air and high humidity in my tent. For basecamp I use a cabela's instinct 6 man tent. The tent is great but I need to figure out the humidity part.

    • @cameronbrownjr.9369

      Not sure how effective it would be in a tent but I use charcoal dehumidifiers in my cabover camper to draw the moisture out when storing it. They definitely work for that application but could be worth a try in a tent. You can get them online for $6-$7 each.
