Southern artists had to stick together to make our mark in music because the West and East were running things in the 90s and early to 2000s

The East and West lost to the South due to creative stagnance . Hip-Hop fans are always looking for the next new sound or way of rapping and the South is always changing and evolving. The South has a much larger black population than the East or West Coast meaning it has a larger pool of talent.

@Rasul Huseynov You have reading comprehension issues or you don't know shit about Hip-hop...I think it's a bit of both. It's well known that Southern Rap has the most sounds. The South has dominated Hip-hop the past 20 years by coming up with different dope sounds people wanna hear. It was Crunk from the early to mid 2000s, then came the Snap era in the mid to late 2000s and it's been the Trap sound from the early 2010s to the present. The East Coast hasn't come with a new or original sound since the late 90s and the West Coast hasn't since the early 90s. The triple flow is a different way of rapping that many credit southern rappers with popularizing: ua-cam.com/video/3la8bsi4P-c/v-deo.html

Hip-Hop/Rap is African American. The majority of African Americans live in the Deep South. That is the answer to the question. Also because African Americans had to deal with jim crow and slavery down here we are more unified than African Americans on the East & West Coast. The Dj's on the West & East coast most of the time ain't even Black. In the South it is the opposite. I grew up in Long Beach, CA with parents from Mississippi. I have lived in Mississippi & Tennessee most of my adult life. That is my opinion on this.

Plus they still smuggled people here even when the US outlawed the importation of slaves in 1808 allat shit ended in 1860 but when they did the census in 1870 95 percent of black Americans. Race relations was actually cordial at the start of reconstruction in the South bc the military stayed and watched over the people and helped out then when they left that went away, it wasn’t till the 1910s when they started leaving 1970 census 53 percent lived in the South the rest lived somewhere else but almost 100 percent came from the South so that mean you most likely have ancestors from here

The South became more about clubbing and partying while West Coast was more about the gangsterness and East Coast more about being hard-core and the Midwest more about speed rapping.

Now the south (with trap) east coast (with nyc drill) and Midwest (with Chiraq drill) are the gang banging scenes! Plus the south they have pro gun laws so people aren’t getting arrested as much compared to others regions! And south Chicago is only 10 mins from Indiana (pro gun state) and NYC is known for being gritty!! Cali has let its reputation become soft and fruity!! I am thinking about starting a new scene in Phoenix AZ , SLC UT or Boise ID, They have loose gun laws unlike the coastal part of the west!!

After death of 2pac-Death Row was gone! After death of Biggie-Bad Boy was gone. Huge lost for east and west rap scene! So South starts to take over the rap game in late 1997 with Master P. 1998 was the year of No Limit. At the same time Cash Money was very hot too. So since late 1997 there is no chance for East and West. The last chance was 50 and The Game-from 2002 to 2005. But after 2005 the South take over the game again.

50 cent and Jay Z was also on the rice after biggie and pac died so that was the east chance with those 2 and the west with The Game comming in Dre singing Eminem to the west coast but they were to busy competing with each other while the south was making moves in silent with Lil Wayne on the rise and rappers like T.I and Ludacris comming in as well

@@HintOfSalt Facts both coasts was too stagnant and didn’t change nor did they diversify their sounds. Cities like Memphis and New Orleans was putting out way harder shit than L.A and NYC sounds they didn’t even hear of. Plus the south is black America’s home base that’s why our region always ran American music going back to jazz opera and negro spiritual days. We created all this shit and hip hop wouldn’t have even existed without jazz blues soul and funk.

Ohio we got our own game Ohio is not The South much love to everybody tho but shout out to my real Cleveland my real Ohio folk dem. Mid West Choppers dawg. P.s. another thing when it comes to Hip-Hop it's like the East Coast is more than just New York of course New York is where it started at but we also have to include Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Boston, Massachusetts - Connecticut and New Jersey I mean it's so ignorant every other Coast sticks together except the East. NY is the East Coast and Philly and Jersey right next door is looked @ as their own little separate regions in Hip-Hop smh and I'm from NYC.

I'll start w/ the West Coast because that's where I'm from. I'm from the Bay so we don't have that mainstream gloss that L.A. has. L.A. will always have that advantage over us. What I'm about to say is sorta controversial, but hey... Oh well. Too bad, so sad. The Bay had its moments in the 90's and early 2000's, but they're not very business-savvy. Also, when Latino rappers started to infiltrate and screw up our flow, that's when it became wack and corny. _If I just mimic whatever the _*_mayates_*_ do then I'll be ok._ Yes, Latino rappers are very racist behind the scenes which is why black artists need to be very wary of that *Black & Brown* BS. That's BS. It's only *Black & Brown* when it's time for music. Remember that. They have a lot to do w/ why the Bay Area is so played out right now. And a popular rapper (black) from the Bay Area agrees w/ me.😉 I agree w/ Uncle Snoop though. Radio is only playing what they're being told to play. I used to get hella agitated whenever I'd hear the same ol' crap on the radio, but when my big brother, Mr. Ebro Darden broke it down step by step, I started to understand. On the East Coast, they simply got tired of promoting wordsmiths so they went w/ the South because it's easy-breeze. I believe the biggest blow is the elimination of knowledge hip-hop. I'm thinking Public Enemy, Intelligent Hoodlum, Lakim Shabazz, etcetera. See, the general public _cain't_ understand all of that. And then you had the wordsmiths just rhyming they ass off and it became too much. See, I love it. I truly do, but when it comes to a mass appeal thing, it gets fuzzy.
