It's hard to describe to people who didn't grow up in that sort of environment. I remember when I was younger I wasn't allowed to go to certain neighborhoods because I went to a certain school. In retrospect that sounds fucking ridiculous but it was serious back then. Two gangs didn't like each other for whatever reason and because you lived in that neighborhood that gang claimed you are affiliated by proxy, doesn't matter that you don't bang you can still get fucked up or killed over it.
