To those making disparaging comments about the Gurkhas: learn your facts. The Gurkhas consider it an honour to fight with the British. They have a competition every year for a place in the UK army: usually there's upwards of 20 Gurkhas competing for each place. Next, about pay. For many years now they have received the same pay and pension as a UK born soldier. Even when they got much less pay than a British soldier, what they were paid was still many times the income of those in their home country. They are bloody good soldiers and that is why we're privileged to have them fighting with us so please just leave it at that, except for one last question: all of you critics, have you been in the armed forces? I very much doubt it otherwise you wouldn't be making such stupid comments.

"find their keepers, don't they say?" The old adage holds true in this case. The secret coalition UK - chile decided the outcome. Argentine forces were spied and their activities anticipated , except for the Argentine Air Force due to their fast speed barely-over-the-water raids
No doubt, East Falkland should remain British however, West Falkland is most certainly Argentine from the fact that lies 193 miles from continental Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) to the condition it is; barely a little more than 100 residents with no infrastructure as opposed to the 3500 residents of East Falkland with their only prep school in the region, the supply shops and gov seat
Britain has endured litigation with 4 European countries
Spain France Holland and Ireland; in all cases, the issues were resolved by dividing territories.
Thus it is appropriate to consider applying that same method here
Since the hand of the Creator split the ground in two main groups, it is more than obvious what the fair way to settle this matter should be
      Plan SRP2018
      East Falkland for Britain

For eight years things were normal there until a fight broke out between Vernet and a foreign ship fishing/whaling illegally. Vernet's sanction resulted in the attack by the Americans who went to East Falkland in a war ship, the USS Lexington destroying the settlement and forcing ppl back to continental Argentina.

They left the union Jack in the Buenos Aires museum, the flag has beautiful ornaments along the edge made of gold)

Very good documentary or rather, more of an extended news report, listening to the narrator who sounds like an on-location news reporter. His voice does get a bit monotonous at times, however what makes this report so much better than the hollywood style documentaries is the total lack of added in sound effect or music. The Argentine claims on the islands always made me laugh...
If proximity is such a big deal then I suppose Chile also belongs to Argentina? ...and China to Japan and Greece to Turkey, no?
The Argentinian republic didn't even exist until British support for it came based off of those islands.
And you gotta love how they moan about being forced there by a dictator against their will but in the same breath say 'we'll do it next time!' Maybe just own your mistakes and learn from them instead...

That fact is mate is we British are naturally superior in every way when it comes to war . Hopefully you won't make the same mistake twice otherwise we have to attack Argentina itself which will be easy , whilst you hide in the mountains etc your cities will be targeted and taken over one by one if forced to do so . Our SAS , SBS ,commandos. Royal Marines etc would take out all your leader's in your forces etc etc . So as I've said beforehand that the UK doesn't and didn't need help from America in actual war against Argentina . Let's just hope that war doesn't happen for the sake of innocent lives and lives of both Argentinians and British , one war is more than enough . The islands belong to the islanders who are all British subjects and live under British law's etc so why would they want to be ruled by someone else ?? You guys threatened British citizens so we came and kicked ass . Peace is the answer now , there's enough shit going around the world without this crap starting again wouldn't you say ?? I'm in the British force's and heard about brave Argentinians fighting on when most ran off , I heard how hard your Marines fought our boy's and I've heard many stories of brave actions from you guys by my CO . Contrary to my comment ( some of it ) I actually have respect for Argentinian force's , your major problem was your leadership who gave orders from miles away whilst my boys led from the front and that made a huge difference in combat . ANOTHER JACKBOOT. Incidently, pinochet went to Britain in '98 to have tea with thatcher, reminiscing about the '82 "victory" but after the meeting London police dragged his ass to jail for multiple counts of murder plus embezzlement illegally transferring 28 million dollars to Europe HAHAHA he was only released to be immediately extradited in 2000 !!! thatcher tried to get him out talking to the police but... wasn't enough !!! He had that coming after being the reason why 648 Argentines and 255 Brits died in an unnecessary bloodshed. pinochet was a maggot feasting on dead bodies hence his excitement to see ARG and the UK at war

The Argentinian soldiers were conscripts of only 18 years old and few weeks of training. The best soldiers of Argentina were near the frontier with Chile because Chile wanted to invade Argentina, that´s why the ground battle was so easy for the UK, which has professional soldiers and gurkhas. Only the argentinian airforce was a problem for the UK, many exocet missiles didn´t explote, that was another advantage, because each missile was one ship less for the UK.

      @Westerdd 2 роки тому +1

A couple of things not quite correct here. It is true that many of the Argentine troops were conscripts, but they weren't 18 years old with a few weeks of training. The 1963 conscripts that hadn't completed their full training were initially brought to the Falklands but were soon replaced by older conscripts that had completed their full training (8 or 10 months can't remember which) prior to the British land troops reaching San Carlos. Source of info is from Martin Middlebrooks's excellent book called "Argentine fight for the Falklands".
The 2nd inaccuracy was the unexploded missiles , there were numerous unexploded bombs dropped in the San Carlos bomb alley that were embedded in the ships, but none of these were Exocets.

The Falklands Islands are 5,650 square miles whilst the State of Hawaii is 6,400 square miles. This means the Falklands is quite a large place and is a strategically important set of islands due to possible mineral mining in Antarctica, which may happen in the future, and also because the ocean fishery around the Falklands is considered one of the richest in the world, which is why there are millions of seals, penguins, sea birds, orcas and giant behemoths called elephant seals. If Argentina had gained control it would have authorized the killing of millions of the seals whereas Great Britain protects the wildlife of the Falklands with all its mighty power and authority. Argentina is a sad South American JOKE! StocktonRob

@Papelmusic It doesn't matter, as facts are facts. Argentina suffered far heavier losses and ultimately surrendered and lost the war. What other 'view' is there? Argentina were the aggressors, they believed the UK wouldn't try and defend The Falklands, and they paid the price. A 'different view' cannot change facts. The UK is a fair and even-minded country, but cross it at your peril.

I am a latino in my latino banana republic. I must say that the argentinos, on the most part, are known throughout, as "stuck up" and "snotty". There's a joke that when there's lightning falling, they come out to the open because they think god is taking pictures of them. They think a lot of themselves.
Latin America is one big poor country subdivided into levels of backwardness. Of course that in this day and age there are some "rich" areas, but who could withstand you guys along with the Commonwealth and the US who brought half the nazis down? (I think the russkies did the other half or more).
Anyways, you invented the best radar, cracked enigma, flew mosquitoes and dropped blockbusters all over Europe 40 years before this! Come on! (Still, you didnt do as good as expected. It wasnt a walk in the park, ey?)
The world speaks english for a reason (we latinos wish we did too, not español which left us with an apparently perpetual stagnation).
Anyways, Viva Churchill, the UK, the Commonwealth, the US and all sincere allies. Viva Reagan, the Freedom Fighters and The Original Banana Republic! (my homeland, sniff)

A certain RM Major nearly came to blows with a senior guards officer over the cock up. Spot on comment. There is so much history in common between them.
The only Harrod's outside London is in Buenos Aires. In fact, the two cities bear an uncanny resemblance. There are many parts of Argentina bearing English names such as Hurlingham, claypole, Wilde, Banfield, Temperley, Lincoln, city bell, Hughes, Wheelwright etc
Transport, housing and construction, culture and music, lifestyle and education
      Etc.
Boris Johnson went to Buenos Aires in may last year and it was good for both sides
Ppl have no idea how close the two are and so how absurd the enmity over the unresolved issue
      There's a plan SRP2018
      East Falkland for Britain
      West Falkland for Argentina
St Charles strait international line; everything East of the strait constitutes the British Belt and west of that strait is Argentina
It is the only way to validate both and achieve a permanent solution that will benefit both, especially in this post EU era, UK needs fresh contacts
Argentina is a blessed rich land (hence the many crooks who spoil the country) capable of positive ventures with the UK

If this had been the USA fighting against Argentina for a little archipelago over the little matter of international principles and the rule of law, Buenos Aries would have been reduced to rubble and what was left of the country would have been occupied by the US army. That's the way of the USA (although they don't even realise it, which is a tragedy for everyone).
But, because it was a war against the British, at least the loss of life was kept to a minimum. At least the only truly ethical outcome was achieved. At least Argentina was only briefly humbled and not devastated and humiliated in the aftermath. At least, because this was an honourable engagement of fighting men, the two sides can still communicate with one another and, perhaps, decide to find a solution to this ridiculous dispute one day.
At least there is still hope.

    • @jpcodnia9133

@ ludocrat. I agree. The solution now exists
      Plan SRP2018
      East Falkland for Britain
      West Falkland for Argentina
St Charles strait international line. Everything East of the strait is the British Belt and west of it, is Argentina's territory.
Note that Britain only developed East Falkland (and with massive infrastructure provided by Argentina between 1970 to 1973
Also there are over 3000 ppl there.
But West Falkland barely crossed the one hundred population mark and lacks everything so these folks have to travel to East F all the time.
      One more interesting point,
West Falkland lies 193 miles from Tierra del Fuego (continental Argentina) so continuity applies in WF
Neither side deserves the whole but each party has valid claims

      Here's a free lesson for you whoever the bloody hell you really are behind the likeness of a four legged beast;
The only reason Britain prevailed (not "won" since 255 Brits perished in a ridiculous war at a whopping cost of 1000000000 quid) was bc chile worked day n night for GB. Thatcher herself said "we have a debt of honour...were it not for chile we wouldn't have been able to regain control of the islands" the proper analogy would be for a foreign power wanting to attack Britain to persuade Ireland to work for them day and night, from their backyard
      Get it now?
I'm not even a little bit fond of the crazy idea of invading the Falklands but the UK should have worked it out on paper, not jumping the gun. ARG troops had strict orders to treat everyone in the islands like ppl of their own communities. No emergency. No lives desperately in need of rescue.
If the UK would have tried to invade mainland like you bragged about, the international community would have jumped on Britain like a classic "Mexican stand off" you hit me and my friend hits you...
So the outcome came through chile. There is no way in hell for any country to wage war 13,000 kms away and win
Now that your pride is in front of a mirror, try and think how Boris Johnson find important to have good relations with Argentina. Maybe bc Buenos Aires has an uncanny resemblance to London, like no city in the US, as well as the culture and lifestyle plus the many communities with English names like Hurlingham Wilde Banfield Wheelwright Hughes Temperley etc ...
Be careful how fake patriotism can sneak up on ppl and then ugly stuff happens...the chilean dictator who was close friends with Thatcher giving the winning card, that one went to London in 1998 had tea with her and boom London police took him away multiple homicides plus embezzlement illegally transferring 28 million dollars to Europe. He remained in jail until 2000 and as for the iron snake the same week she died, a new pope was chosen, an Argentine... March 2013
