Im gonna try to apply a bit if craftmans logic here. There is the gold zippo flints and these black ones like the clipper ones here. If you think of it like saws, saws for wood have bigger teeth and will saw the wood nicely but those dont work on cutting steel. The oposite is the same a steel saw has smaller teeth and will saw steel well but when trying to saw wood with those the teeth often will not cut well and have sawdust stuck between the teeth. I suspect with lighter flints it depends on the teeth of the flint wheel and the hardnes vs softness of the flint

Mr. Bossman, regarding the block lighter you are using: 1) I wonder if the spark wheel is the same width and thickness as a Zippo spark wheel, in order to see if they can be swapped. 2) The wick - is it a "nominal" thickness wick? That also could be swapped to see if it helps (I remain convinced that wick condition/quality are underrated factors in lighter performance and fuel lifespan). This has been a great test series Brother - quite interesting to see lighters that are a bit reluctant to be consistent...

I appreciate all your insights my friend. I never really thought much at all about switching out file wheels but maybe it's time to branch out.✌️

Have you tried. Blowing on it before you spin that flint wheel?

That is something I will typically try immediately after fueling but may have neglected to attempt in these videos. Perhaps because these had all previously proven to be problem igniters or maybe just slipped my mind.😜✌️
