    I root my slips by leaving the eye on the potatoes laying on a plate with some water on it. Saves time and eliminates a few diseases by not bringing the pests that have em

    Very good advice Gary. A strange year for my potatoes here in Kent, planted Blue Danube in containers in early April with no additional water as the compost was reasonably damp and have only lightly watered once as the weather is so cool to date but will certainly take heed of your advice and watch them closely. 👍👍👍

    Thanks for the Sowing & Planting Veg Calendar you emailed out to me. Much appreciated. Do you buy seed potatoes each year to grow, or do you save some of what you grow for next year 🤔

      Thank you very much for your comment and I hope you are finding my 2023 Veg Sowing & Planting Calendar useful.
      I always buy my seed potatoes rather than use my own. I could use my own however I like trying different varieties and also think that there is less possibility of disease with bought seed potatoes. Kind regards. Gary

    Hi Gary, Can you explain what causes potato scab, and how do i prevent it.

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen
      @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much fir your comment. Potato scab is caused by a bacterium and It thrives in alkaline soil conditions and enters through wounds/imperfections on the tuber surface. To avoid scab, maintain proper soil pH (slightly acidic), rotate crops, and choose scab-resistant potato varieties. Additionally, ensure well-drained soil and minimize tuber damage during cultivation.
