Sand Casting a Miniature Bronze Cannon - ASMR Bronze Metal Melting - Recorded in 4k

  • Hello everyone! In today's video I decided to sand cast a miniature bronze cannon! This has been a project I've been putting off for quite some time. I 3d printed the parts last year!
    Over the last few weeks I've been making aluminum bronze ingots in anticipation of getting this project done once and for all. I start off the video making the sand mold. Mold making can be intricate work. Not my favorite thing to do, but it is necessary to get the job done.
    Once the mold is made, I fire up the Devil Forge furnace and start melting down 4 ingots. While the metal is heating up, I decide to try my luck in my slot machine. Did I win or did I lose?
    After the bronze is completely melted, I skim off the slag and then proceed to pour that liquid goodness into the sand mold. It's been awhile since I casted in sand and I had forgotten how much it stinks! After what seemed like forever, I finally removed the cannon, did the quench and cleaned it up.
    DISCLAIMER: This cannon is not functional by any means.
    If you like metal casting, metal scrapping, watching metal melt or just anything about scrap metal, please feel free to subscribe to my channel. I use the proceeds from the ad revenue to upgrade and purchase equipment needed for the channel. Metal casting can get quite expensive but thankfully I do not have to buy the metal that I am melting (like some other channels do)
    Feel free to share my video anywhere and everywhere. Sharing equals more views which equals more revenue. I'm not trying to get rich but I am trying to upgrade equipment without having to dig into my wallet. I'd love to purchase a second camera for better angles.
    Anyways, I'm rambling on like I tend to do hahaha. Please give me a thumbs up if you think the video is worthy.
    Thanks for watching and happy scrapping, casting and stacking!

    The great thing about an idea is that it never expires. And you could always fill the bore in and bore it back out. (Im guessing anyway). When i have minor imperfections in my projects i usually just face them out of sight.

    I'm working my way thru all your videos - really digging your stuff bro. Me being a fellow scrapper/smelter, I can really appreciate the time and effort you put in to doing this - great content. I know it's not the first time you've heard from me, but I'll put credit where it's due - shit I'd burn a fatty with you and melt some metal....I'm actually trying to buy a coin dozer machine

      Thanks bro, I really appreciate your kind words! Wish I had more subs like you!!! You are absolutely right in regards to the effort. Most of my videos take me a good 6 hours to create (editing takes the longest). Oh I’m definitely a fan of “natural herbs” 🤣. A buddy of mine wants one of those coin machines too. I’ve lost tons of quarters to those machines over the years 🤣

    Nice attempt. You might use a core inside it making the drilling a lot easier. Core is made of Silica sand as you probably know

    @tobhomott Рік тому +1

    Nice one, I'm a sucker for a sand molding video. TBH I expected more shrinkage than I saw here, so I'd say it turned out pretty well. 👍
    I can't imagine drilling that out was any fun though. Why not try casting it hollow? That would eliminate most of the drilling, but also probably cure the shrinkage by reducing the casting's cross-sectional thickness. And you could still use a horizontal mold with a proper gating and feed system. In my experience that is pretty important with aluminum bronzes, as these alloys will turn into foamy dross inside the mold if the gating allows the metal to freefall and splash around. The corebox could be as simple as a slit piece of PVC pipe with the right ID. Anyhow, good first try with this pattern!

    • @Scrap2Cast
      @Scrap2Cast  Рік тому

      Thank you brother! Your input is by far the most accurate in my opinion. I thought about casting it hollow but didn’t have an idea of how I would accomplish that easily. I admit my gating definitely needs work. Thanks for the positive input and always appreciate your feedback 🙂👊🏼🍻

  • @RLWolf80
    @RLWolf80 Рік тому +1

    Horizontal melt would have been good, but there was no pin holes in the deeper pockets of the canon so air would have been pushed out. Other than that, nice pour, congrats on the $1.75 profit (more like just $.75 for the day), and use the bricks next time to weigh the box down instead of the ingots.

    • @Scrap2Cast
      @Scrap2Cast  Рік тому +1

      Yes it should’ve been done horizontally. Not sure how much of a difference the bricks would’ve made. There was 15 pounds of ingots on the box

    • @RLWolf80
      @RLWolf80 Рік тому +2

      @Scrap2Cast Horizontal is side-to-side, and vertical is up and down. But with the air holes, a small eyeglass screwdriver to punch air holes in the deepest part (near the back of the barrel) on the top half of the mold might have prevented the air pocket left inside ingot. And I say bricks so you don't have to re-buff the ingots.

    • @Scrap2Cast
      @Scrap2Cast  Рік тому +1

      Lol I know the difference between horizontal and vertical brother 🤣. I get what your saying in regards to the airflow. I’ve seen bells being casted with those tiny pinholes for breathers. I wanted to use the ingots to prove a point that ingots from the stack although nice to look at can still serve another purpose 😉
