    I've done both. I once got roped into a MLM insurance company, and I'm currently a ride share driver. The major difference for me at least. I'm actually making money with Uber instead of losing money with MLM insurance.

    The best thing a new potential lyft driver can do is just sign up straight with lyft. They pay bigger bonuses direct than if the driver uses another driver's referral code in most cases. Personally, I received $500 by going direct. I stopped referring drivers because it's not worth creating more competition for myself.

    • @munchkym
      @munchkym  6 років тому +1

      JJ, The Karaoke Rideshare Driver From what I’ve seen, Lyft will give you a driver’s code without consulting you, which is concerning. But how would you know you can get more with signing up directly than with someone’s code? Have you tested that at the same time in the same market? I’m not sure how easy it would be to test so I haven’t attempted.

    • @JJTheKaraokeRideshareDriver
      @JJTheKaraokeRideshareDriver 6 років тому

      In the lyft driver app, you'll see in the lower right corner " Earn $ ___" In my app it's says Earn $100. When you click the words, it shows what that means. It's the current driver referral bonus a driver gets when the new driver completes whatever they specify (rides in set time period). But, lyft is offering $500 to $1000 directly to new drivers in my market. I've seen the emails, and that is why I went with them directly instead of using a driver's code. I would rather get $500 bonus instead of only $100 bonus based on a driver who referred me.

    • @munchkym
      @munchkym  6 років тому

      But if they use your code, they can still get that bonus! You receive less than that, but the market bonus is the market bonus.

    Just A heads up. Lyft offer's a discount on fuel.
    When you reach silver it's like 20 or 25 rides. They offer fuel rewards. As of July 1st 2018 in Arizona it's .07 off a gallon. I'm at Gold ranking so I get .25 cents off a gallon.
    Go into your Dash and apply.

    My friend gave me the skinny, these rideshare companies gives new drivers all the good calls to fulfill their guarantee to make X amount of dollars in the first 400 rides... By the time you realize the job is BS you put 20k miles on your car and they hire 100’s more to start the process over with more suckers! The new flow of Suckers is where the Pyramid stems from... The new driver bonus is to keep the veteran suckers quiet ... quiet 🤫

    • @munchkym

      Wicket AND FRIENDS PARODY While some of this is true, I’m not sure about giving new drivers all the good calls.

    • @wicketandfriendsparody8068
      @wicketandfriendsparody8068 5 років тому

      Thanks for your response... Yeah, he was saying if you got the base fare of 3.71 x 400 that wouldn’t add up to 2900 in your first 400 trips so they’d have to give you the long distance rides to and from... He was saying after his first 400 trips the calls drastically decreased... Good ol’ algorithm for ya... :/

    Yes the more you drive your car the higher the risk you have for these types of things but either way it can happen anytime time. I’ve been driving for about 5 months now part time only two days a week and it’s been a huge profitable hustle average take home $900-$1100. You’re going to drive your car anyway so turn it into an ATM keep good tax records, get an accountant that knows this type of business or speak to someone who drives full time and does their taxes accurately. I recommend this to anyone who has their car up to standards and doesn’t have a car payment for more profit. But it’s pretty easy here in Portland to have a $250+ weekend working just during the day like 10-5

  • @kmcg101

    I agree. It's not MLM or Pyramid. It's a business that pushes every risk to the driver yet does not compensate the driver for the risks accordingly. The more you drive the more likely you will get into a fender bender or get a moving violation. This can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars and turns a $15/hour shift into a huge loss. I see Uber as a minimum wage job after expenses that can sometimes be a bit more profitable. With huge risks.

    • @munchkym
      @munchkym  6 років тому +1

      Yeah, totally understandable! Very legitimate criticism!

    • @amenotepia
      @amenotepia 6 років тому +1

      Most definitely. "Ubered/Lifted" for around ten months. It has been the worst job I've ever had, with the most irregular salary, and even though 80% of the people are usually nice, the remaining 20% totally spoils the experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. And this time, I'm not even trying to tease XD.

    • @brucekingfield8439
      @brucekingfield8439 6 років тому +1

      I did it for a little over a month last year. When I did my taxes and finally totalled my receipts for gas, car washes, incidental auto expenses, I claimed a $100 loss. Total ride payments were just under $1,000.

    • @aarondavid5866
      @aarondavid5866 6 років тому +1

      the more you drive the more likely you have a fender bender driving on your own anyway. I"ve never had a fender bender. so whats the risk. The more you drive doesnt mean an accident will happen anway. Some people crash their car first drive . some never

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 5 років тому

      Not to mention the wear and tear you put on your vehicle. You put thousands of miles on your engine, lowering the value of your car. If you end up getting suspended from Uber or Lyft, then you are stuck with a car that is less valuable. Or if you end up having mechanical problems, you now have to spend hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. What little money you saved up, now has to be spent fixing your car or putting a down payment on a newer car.

    Do I get anything if I use your referral code instead of just applying straight with Uber/Lyft? I mean I noticed that theres an Uber promotion regardless, it says I will get 1800 guarantee on first 200 trips

    • @munchkym
      @munchkym  6 років тому

      So I can't say for sure until you try it, but usually what will happen is that guarantee is not going to be helpful because you will make $1800 on the 200 trips so then you won't get any extra. But if you use my referral code, you might be offered a "bonus" instead, which could be like $50 after 20 trips or even $300 after 300 trips or who knows. It depends on your city. So if you try it, you may get a bonus, but it's up to you if you want to try or just stick to the guarantee. It's a bit of a gamble!

  • @thomasarias5732
    @thomasarias5732 5 років тому

    Uber and Lyft are NOT trying to earn a profit. They have insurmountable debt, and are holding out for the day they go public, which will make their original investors billionaires. From there, the SEC will get involved, the industry will finally get regulated, and eventually the whole system will crash. That’s assuming the ridiculously high driver turnover rate doesn’t crash the system first. The taxi industry is holding out for that eventuality, too.

    You gave great information in this video but there is one large piece of information that you left out. With Uber and lift, the referral benefits only go to the single person that provided the individual promo code. The key difference with "MULTI" "LEVEL" marketing is that there are multiple "LEVELS" of "up-lines" that receive a cut of the referral. Each up-line level would receive a higher percentage of each referral and purchase from all "down-lines". I think in many cases the levels phase out around 6 or 7 "up-lines or down-lines" but I don't really remember that number exactly. (I looked into signing up for a M-L-M once, that's how I know.) So, yes, Uber and lyft do have referral programs but not in a multi level fashion. I hope you don't take offense to what I had to say. It's meant the purest of intentions. Anyways, I like your channel. you have great content

    What market do you live in?

    Do you think drivers can make 3,000 a week doing rideshare alone?

    • @munchkym
      @munchkym  5 років тому

      TEXASMADE I work in the Boise market! I think it’s possible to make $1000-$2000 per week in a really good market working like 60 hours a week, but $3000 is really pushing it. I seriously doubt anyone at all is making 6 figures with rideshare, but I suppose it’s possible. But really bad on your body, health, and car.

      Amway has been investigated in various countries and by institutions such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for alleged pyramid scheme practices. The FTC officially determined the company's sales plan was not an illegal pyramid scheme, because you need to sell products in order to make a profit.

      UTSB Yeah, probably! They’ll likely still have “drivers” they just won’t be operating unless they need to take over. Which is probably a lot safer considering that it appears every crash with a self-driving vehicle so far was caused by an external human.

      It’ll come in a very small platform and could never be viable as the norm. Uber’s pricing model is a huge loss, so they could never afford the assets needed to replace the driver market they created. Assuming Google or Amazon doesn’t get there first, of course.

    Interesting video. Uber and Lyft were smart to have referral bonuses due to their high turnover of drivers. Both companies have traits similar to Pyramid Schemes/MLMs as you described but overall I think they are something a bit worse/better. They are better because you can in fact get "rich" using their companies as a stepping stone. Examples of people making good money from Uber/Lyft are the Simple Driver (Calvin), Uberman, and Rideshare Guy. All three understand the branding portion of the platforms and see the many different ways you can use Uber/Lyft as a BUSINESS to make multiple streams of income.
    The worse part, which is in part due to the ignorance of drivers, is the lack of education. Many drivers don't understand this is a business. Many don't understand the operating costs, how to file taxes for this business, how to write things off, etc. Although most of this content can be found on UA-cam both Uber/Lyft don't really do a good job of informing their drivers. Also Uber/Lyft are extremely shady companies with terrible practices such as charging passengers more and not giving drivers our fair cut (upfront pricing).
    That's just my 2 cents. Great video though! You're doing a great job of branding just with these vids!

    Splitting hairs here. How and when will I ever be in the position to get someone to drive for Uber or Lyft.
    Screw the recruitment bonuses and get you heavily discounted brakes, car washes, oil changes, tires, practical stuff. Most people will take this in lieu of more money. Because money is money and it doesn't care what it's spent on. I was going to rent a car through Hertz until I saw there was a $2000 deductible on damages even if it was not my fault. And I refuse to to drive my personal car because I, like you munchkym enjoy driving. Try driving a BMW 330xi and you'll quit ride sharing just to drive the open road and take turns at 50 mph while accelerating. I think this whole thing will collapse soon when people realize the damage it does to cars even under the best of conditions. And where I live near SF California, the roads are trash in the areas you can make money. Also, they don't allow drivers to carry weapons. Even if like me you are trained in firearms and ex military. Drivers are in the most prone position and frankly and you get deactivated if you don't accept rides in s**t areas.
    Please be safe out there munch. TBH you can do a lot better and hope you are in school working towards a batter career.
