I once tried my hand at making candles, and spent way too much money buying ingredients and making candles. I ended up with a huge pile of candles that i had to give away. Your description of the 'pile of misery and failure' is so accurate and made me laugh so much. 😅
first rule of hustling, don't get high on your own supply. If you like something and collect it because you want it, you're going to become emotionally attached and it is going to take away from yuor focus of making money.
Yup. I have to fight myself from keeping the best stuff, which of course is the stuff easiest to sell. Every lot I buy is like trail mix. All the cashews and chocolate gets picked out for reselling, leaving raisins and filler. Another lot, same thing, After a bit of time you end up with a basement full of raisins that you unload to save space. If you're not making money on the cashews, you'll just be spinning your wheels.
@@saltytbone great analogy, thats why I only sell things I use, like rain coats, winter coats, wool blankets, silk shirts, and computer hardware. It's such a fine line between collecting other people's junk in a bin for resale vs having items that are rotating out constantly.
I’ve recently done the opposite. Picked up 3 Xbox 360s with 2 big hard drives and 3 controllers all thrown ima box together for $40 only one has the red ring. The other 2 are the latter models with the jasper board and work awesome. Also 2 out of 3 controllers work well
Man, I feel your pain on buying consoles in unknown condition. I buy a ton of consoles from Goodwill and some work, while others don't. I've fixed many of them up, but some I just have to cut my losses and sell cheaply to recoup some of the money. The parental locks on Xbox 360s are still possible to bypass if you have a Microsoft account. I'm not sure about Xbox One and newer though.
Yeah. At one time I did the same. However, Goodwill aint what it use to be. "IF" you can find a game console in a Goodwill store they want to sell it for about what I could! Goodwill online has gone insane. Seems like some shenanigans going on. Cant get in a lst minute bid as the screen freezes!! Always outbid, you think Id win at least once in a while.
Man you have the most youtuber voice of all time. I could literally link like 5 channels that have the same exact voice as you. How does that make you feel
Yeah, anything that is untested/as-is I always also just assume it doesn't work. I don't buy consoles though, just games that I can fix/resurface/solder if I need to.
My mom died and I had to settle her home which was full of awesome stuff I didn't want. So I had an estate sale just to make sure her stuff wasn't junked and could find decent homes. I did cherry pick with my siblings thru it all before to ensure no family history would be lost and the broader family could have things they wanted ofc but when it came to the money I got for the items I didn't care. I sold my entire gaming collection for 200 when the guy offered me 200 for just my Wii and all the games and accessories it had. He was so grateful he even said he felt bad because he's just gonna make money off selling it. I told him that's how I felt selling my mom's house 😉.
I have a media store at a flea market and let me tell ya so many people will try to sell you broken systems with zero shame lol. You ALWAYS gotta assume they don't work right same with games also but at least with games you can always flip them over and look for disc scratches.
My worst ripoff was actually from a store. I got a copy of Chrono Trigger that did not work, and they claimed that since I got it with credit, that they only do swaps for the same game. They claim that they haven't gotten a copy in since that time... That was 2015.
Yeah that is the shadiest thing I've heard, put them on blasts bc real gamers won't shop at a place like that.. kind of why GameStop lost so many customers after 2005 was stupid things like that on returns / policy.
Why not carry a testing kit with you when you go. Binder w/ disc sleeves of known working cheap sports games, 1 for each platform. A small display that can take composite signal via a cheap retrotink. An inverter or battery pack. Some spare cables etc.

Sorry about that it happens. I think only people like Phoenix resale are good at that. There's days I'm good and days I'm not. Gladly I have a regular job too.
I enjoyed this video, thanks. The shitty negative comments are weird though. You are all clearly making a killing on the stock market, sat on YT being critical of this video? Hope you can shift some of that junk, JBob!
Semi successful eBay reseller here, it can be hard but you should've been done your homework on everything pictured here, I mean extensive stats and sales research using their Product Research tool if you don't wanna do it manually. Yes local logistics are somewhat helpful but it's not the make or break like the internet marketplace is. I wouldn't count on repairs to turn a profit unless it's a Sega Saturn or something rarer.
Sure, if you can find someone that still wants a Sega Saturn that hasn't gotten it within the last 20 years. My local game store has been trying to sell a copy of Resident Evil for Saturn for over 2 years now
Yep. At the end of the day, the stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay you. Finding a buyer is the hard part with collectibles. Stocks are much easier to sell off.
I have all the broken stuff and games but I specialize on my psp and Sony retro junk that’s hard to get rid of especially without controllers or anything 😂
I have so many Xbox 360s that are broken/parts LMAO! I'm about to just throw them out in the dump! To heavy to ship out and no one wants to pay that shipping cost for just parts lol
Do the entire world a favor, just throw out all the sports games and all the Just Dance games.
I do throw out a lot of stuff that comes in lots. Herb Alpert records are my favorite to trash.
@@jbobthevideogameslob9250Good cases are always useful.
Appreciate the honesty. I think most people try to hide their losses and shameful purchases and try to pretend that winning is the norm.

if the lasers are broken just mod it and load up 100's of games on there. Problem solved.

All shops around me sell complete working ps1, ps2, xbox, nes, snes for $90 and under. Disc replay, and game world are my favorite.
this is what poverty looks like in a nutshell
Hmm, you need to knock there asking prices down, i bought mint ps2 for £25 on marketplace, $80 for untested is steep.
To be fair all ur inventory is generic crap
you know you can sell them for parts only right? You have so much wasted money sitting there
