- We are starting to get a lot of people wanting us to compare the Caribbean with the Mediterranean. Well it's too early for us to give a fair comparison at the moment and it's quite a complex question which will need a dedicated video.
One thing's for sure though, the Caribbean has a wonderful reliable sailing breeze. I don't think we've had a day since we've been here that it hasn't blown 15-25 knots from the East. There's certainly some sporty sailing to be had and when it's this warm who cares about getting some sea spray in your hair?
In this episode we sail from Grenada to St Lucia with some wonderful stops in Bequia, Carriacou and Union Island and as ever there are multiple boat jobs to do.
Dyneema loops:
I started testing these loops last year after watching some videos from HowNot2 ( this is a good one... • Are tapering splices t... ) and them saying the Brummel lock adds nothing to the strength. It's a site aimed at climbers but there's some good info for us yachties.

Fabulous as ever! I never see either of you lose your temper or get frustrated, yet the jobs and challenges never end! Thought I was watching Blue Peter as Steve showed us how to create the little rope loops
On top of it all Fair Isle looked magnificent and I noticed the new name graphics for the first time.
You guys give amazing value and inspiration! ⛵️
Always enjoy your little tech tips.
beautiful sailing fair isle - thanks!
Try birding or butterflying on the islands. Anytime one enjoy nature they could be just about anywhere and never be bored. If ones enjoys only sports and they are away from the TV they are always bored. I truly enjoy your videos their is always some lessons you both teach us viewers. Jim Rodgers
The rescue net is ingenious! And I really hate to give up an opportunity for a small fortune but I won't be setting up a Vegetable Store in Grenada.
Hello again, Fair Isle. Lovely video - thank you for sharing 🙂For quality fresh vegetables, Beau & Brandy were super impressed with Stacia (Sint Eustatius Island) - that's not far from where you are . . 🤔
Good evening! I've enjoyed your "films" for some time. Having recently come aboard as a supporter, I want to share how much I enjoy your spirit of adventure and the professional approach taken with your productions. Given your backgrounds, I wouldn't expect anything less. Keep it up! I'm enjoying revisiting islands familiar to me. All the very best! Michael
Thank you Michael, and thank you very much for joining as a Patron we have a great group of followers
The Tobago Cays are lovely, so many turtles to swim with and shoals of fish. On the islands the Iguanas pop up from everywhere- had some great bbq’d spiny lobster as well - enjoy when you get there!
That was fascinating, beautiful and very *lovely*. Thank you so much!
Tyvm love your adventures
Great video again. I just love all the wind in the Caribbean. Good to have a boat that likes lots of it. (Heavy) . Yeah those bilge pumps crape out constantly , Im just upgrading mine to an Ultra Pump Switch , that should last more then one season. Love those dyneema rings !
Aren’t Cays, Keys and Quays all basically the same word but in different languages/dialects? Pretty sure I heard this explained like this somewhere before. Anyway, another great film as always! 👏
Good point.
Great video, as always! You mentioned a link to another video where they tested various Dyneema splices, but I cannot find it anywhere. Is it only available to Patreon?
Oh no sorry meant to put it in the description, will do it now

Another great video
Fair Isle is just about the perfect vessel for that Caribbean island sailing. You can get some pretty good seas, but usually, there is nothing horrific. That steady wind from the east builds up the fetch. It's likely saltier sailing than you're used to but also likely it is a sleigh ride. We're watching what changes you make to your sailing and anchoring methods. It's going to get hot, sweaty, and damp in two or so months. It will be interesting to see how particular conditions that are likely more rocky/surge-like than the med become normal. Excellent video and we're planning to chase you around the Bahamas next season.
We will look forward to seeing you in the Bahamas. There are some subtle differences, I'm talking to a manufacturer that makes a good sturdy flopper-stopper at the moment!
Thumbs up for the PobNet! We talked to the man behind and we know the team, with whom he engineered it. It's an awesome system, we have it as well but could not test it yet. Enjoy your time!
We will give it a go this week, will report how it does
@@svfairisle sure you‘ll like it!
Deaply sorry for your loss Judy.
Jabsco Hydro Air Switch, the air hose can be a meter +, run a 30 to 40 amp mini relay, install a 'hot' wire to the relay for manual operation, run the mercury switch as an alarm.. allanS750
I met a couple in St Maarten and they used Lanoline or Vaseline mixed with chili powder and they swore by it.
Nice video. Too bad that all hard corals in your snorkel fragment were dead.
That net is superb great design. That sailing looked great only thing missing was anonther boat then a race. HAHAHA
Is that Orca nav that you're using - if so how are you finding it?
Yes I’m testing it at the moment, seems to be a very useful bit of kit and getting better all the time. I’ve been promising a review for the past year but for various reasons it’s taking longer than I first thought, I will get there soon though
Just started watching your videos. For information the Cays are pronounced keys. Been travelling the Caribbean since the 60’s
Thank you will go for keys
Interestingly, Americans seem to pronounce Cays as "Keys", but then they pronounce Caribbean oddly too! 😉
Piton's make sure to climb them. Both in one day 🙂 Gross Piton is easy Petit Piton is heart in mouth. Soufriere for a guide just ask around.
I tried high-speed anti fouling and slathered lanolin over that on my propeller. I can’t remember well, but I think that it just slowed the growth.
That rescue net looks like a really good solution.
Looking forward to trying it out, we have our daughter here to act as POB
😀😀👍👍❤❤
😊
You guys are awesome. Thank you.
Yippee.
Hello fellow HC owners, I take it that this season you are staying in the southern part of the Caribbean with hurricane season not too far away?!
If you ever make it to Puerto Rico give me a shout 😅
Yes South for this hurricane season but will come North in November
Lanolin maybe better for long term use in a marina. Once sailing Im guessing it comes off.
Yes I’m sure that’s true. Also the weed did scrub off easily, maybe the lanolin helped with that?
Always enjoyable
There’s a great fruit and veg market in St Vincent… did you stop there? Or are you planning to go there?
Lovely videos, thanks
Trish
We stopped for a night on the way down in a little bay about half way down but we didn’t check into until Bequia so we haven’t explored St Vincent properly yet. Where was the market?
In Kingstown near the Market square, I think it Friday and Saturday or Monday & Saturday I can’t remember exactly. We also climbed the volcano with a guide… it was very dramatic but amazing.
