Your little plastic oiler is a "transfer pipette"... awesome to see you back Paul!
A pipette. Yes, it's coming back to me. Thanks! 😉
Thank you Mr. Brodie for these videos. You put so much love and care into these machines and it shows. I wish you the best and hope everyday you feel better.
Thank you so much.. 😉
Get well soon young man, thanks for letting us listen to Harry, sounds incredible.
Thank you Michael, especially for referring to me as a young man! 😉
Paul, you do look so much better, I hope you are on the mend! great to watch your channel!
Thank you. Yes, I am getting stronger! 😉
@@paulbrodie Paul, as you know from enduring the work to build the Excelsior from thin air, you are capable of surviving anything…. It’s not easy but we know you can do it. Keep fighting and keep getting stronger everyday. 👍👍😎👍👍
@@joell439 Thank you Joel. I Am getting stronger for sure. I appreciate your support! 😉
Thank you for this video, it's amazing! Every one of your videos is amazing, soooo much to learn from you.
I whish you all the best and a that you grow strong again fast.
Have a nice and relaxed Sunday and lots of positive vibes from tyrol heading over to you 🤗
Your videos and your work are my motivation to work on my old racebike and making it better 😎
@@hatta1991 Thank you very much for the positive vibes! That's great you have an old race bike too... 😉
Harry Hi-Pipes is a beast for sure Paul. On a related note, I had the honor of seeing Excelsior #1 in the flesh last weekend at Motorcyclepedia in Newburgh, NY. I was proud to explain all the details to my son of your dream to build her and the skills required to make it a reality. You're looking well. Remember to pace yourself in this new reality.
Thank you Kevin. Cool that you visited Excelsior #001 recently 😊
Good to see you're doing better Paul, and great to hear Harry run. Very impressive! All the best from Holland!
Thank you Holland, appreciate your support! 😉
That smile of relief and satisfaction. We all know that. Looking good Paul!!
Thank you Tony 😉
Holy Cripes! When Harry fires up all hell breaks loose! That sounds like a real motorcycle.
To get on that and fly around a track, balls of steel.
And a little crazy as well...
Your labour of love has produced a work of art - very much to be admired.
Thank you Will.. 😉
The feeling of firing her up and the awesome sound after a long time is just addictive Paul, all the best 👍
Thank you Col... 😉
Paul it’s great to see you smile 😃 that thing sounds like a beast. Start ups never go as planned always some tinkering required.
Thanks Ben. Harry does sound like a beast.
Always nice to see a fiery beast of a machine come back to life. I'm digging the beard, Paul.
Thank you Dave. Not everyone likes my beard! 😉
Great to see you back Paul, and Mitch too.
Awesome to see that spark in your eyes when he fired up
Thank you Michael..
Harry sounds like he’s ripping the atmosphere apart! Great video guys.
Thanks Chris. Yes, we woke up the neighbourhood that day for sure...
had to watch these two episodes again , but with my usb headset
,,the sound of your exelsior is pure music, what a throat it has !
Thanks William. At some point we will rebuild the motor for Ruby Racer. With 12.5:1 pistons and a modern carb, it has even more of a bark!
What a beautiful beast of a motorbike. It is my goal to build something of it’s ilk in my lifetime. Thank you Mr. Brodie!
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😉
that smile at 12:23 .... I feel it every time, i finish a bike. All the best to you !
Thank you very much!
What a great noise! 🤯
Thanks Keith...
What sweet sweet music!!! She does make. You re looking good Paul during your chemo and love the Excelsior bike videos.
Thank you Carl. Appreciate your comments!
Hi Paul, great video, and the smile on your face when she fired up was priceless. I was happy to see you enjoying yourself like that.
Good luck with the chemo, and your recovery. I discovered this channel in December of 2020 when I was convalescing, after having been through cancer surgery. I was off work for a month and binge watched all your videos. Thoroughly enjoyed them all, thanks for making them, and I certainly hope that you can continue to do so. I like your teaching style.
Thank you Alistair. Sorry to hear you also went through your troubles with cancer.. 🙂
@@paulbrodie Same to you sir. Cancer is a rough go, as you know all too well. We are all rooting for you of course.
I am a fellow Brit, and I also used to build my own bike frames (before my shop was destroyed in a widfire in 2018). Your videos have definitely been a huge inspiration in my wanting to put together another shop, and build more bikes, as soon as I am able to make that happen.
I live in Seattle so after you beat this thing if you're ever down this way, or if I'm ever up north of the border , I'd love to shake your hand.
All the very best to you.
@@Alistair_Spence Thanks Alistair. I hope you do get another shop put together. Maybe we will shake hands one day! 😉
?
I went through 5 years of cancer treatments and I honestly don’t know how you can be looking so good but you must be a tough guy. That’s a beautiful bike and sounds like it’s in excellent condition in the motor.
Five years is a long time! I have just passed 4 months. My body seems to tolerate the chemo ok. Thanks for watching!
Great to hear it running! Makes my ears happy
Thanks Jeremy :)
That sir is a thing of beauty. Respect.
Thank you Graham.
Fantastic sound, my body feels it. Thanks Mr Brodie. ❤
I was so happy when Harry properly came to life... Thanks for watching! 😉
I freekin loved the sound of that machine. It's old like us so we gotta give it a little slack. Sorry to hear about the chemo. Age is getting all the good ones. I have an old 73 ironhead short chop I've tried to get on the road but we all have illness to deal with in retirement. Damn the mules, ram the gate. Lol
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, I think Harry sounds great too! 😉
First the craftsmanship is beyond compare. Second is the honesty, forgetting what you did and what things are called and the fuel spill. Love this and am glad you are back and healthy.
Thank you B Barber!
Nice to see you back in business... please stay healthy!
Kind regards from Germany.
Thank you Germany. Appreciate your support! 😉
Paul, Awesome to hear Harry High Pipes run again! You’re killing it… All the best from Colorado!
Thanks Gus. Appreciate your comments! 😉
You rode that beast with no brakes ?! At least you no horn is necessary , lol . I am only extremely jealous Paul . Your neighbors must love you too . Looks too cold for a test run there I reckon. You are sounding better I am glad to say and getting Harry to run has put a grin on your face . More than well done and I cannot wait to see you at work again . Excellent sir
Thanks David. Yes, a few months has passed, but Mitch and I already to make more videos :)
She's a beauty. And what a sound! Thanks for posting.
Thanks Paul.
You are a true gift for all of us. Glad your back, and I’m not even a bike guy, but love your videos!
Thank you. Appreciate your comments.
one of the most talented and nicest guys around !
Thanks Dean!
Great respect for you and your work Paul!!
Thanks Klaas, appreciate your comments... 😉
What an amazing sound Ive got goose bumps listening to that, it's a brave man that is willing to ride that beast. All the best Paul hope your health continues on an upward trend.
Thank you Jim!
Glad you're back Paul, I'm a "survivor" myself, I'm sending positive thoughts in your direction. Onward my friend!
Thanks Dan. Appreciate your support :)
It’s good to have you back.
It's good to be back. Thanks Timothy! 😉
Bark, baby bark, love that sound.
That sound is music to my ears! Thanks for watching...
So nice to see you back again Paul. I have enjoyed all your videos
Adrian, thank you very much.
Enjoy?? Quite the understatement Paul. Watching your friend run the starter made my shoulders hurt. Clearly those cylinders produce quite a bit of compression! I can’t even imagine riding that on a road course! I hope you’re feeling better, you certainly look/sound like it. You get extra credit for discussing/describing an awful crash man. I’ve definitely piled a few race bikes , but there aren’t many I like to discuss !!!
Thanks Glen. Harrys compression ratio is about 8:1 and you do have to hang onto the starter. Ruby Racer has a compression ratio of 12.5:1 so you have to pay a little more attention :)
Great to see you and hear Harry! Sounds like a happy little monster. Thanks to you and Mitch!
Thanks Brett!
Good day sir. Billy Lane inspired me to build a open rocker arm Ironhead sportster motor. I will be building the whole board track bike around it. After listening to Harry run. It gives me the inspiration to keep going with pleasure! Thank you very much. Be blessed. Smitty in Vegas.
Smitty, thanks for watching! Billy Lane has inspired a few people, for sure. I hope your project turns out well :) 😉
I'm really glad to see you enjoy start up!
There are many rituals.
I can see The temp is very cold from your white breath, but Excelsior start up!
I'm very impressed that the motor is well adjusted and Sound great!
Thank you for great video!
Take care and See you soon.
Thanks TD. Yes, startup was a good day!
Wow your commitment to originality is truly impressive. I gather Bowden cables weren’t widely used when excelsiors ruled. You would have loved my friend Frank and his Radco - leather drive belt off a secondary wood rim and wood brake blocks.
Thanks Francis..
An absolute beautiful machine. It definitely speaks for both of you.
Thank you Derek... 😁
It runs! We have all been there! Best wishes from UK.
I was so happy Harry finally ran well..
Good to see you getting back into the good stuff, Paul. Harry looks and sounds great. Looking at those lovely linkages, although they are great engineering, all I can say is….thank goodness that Mr Bowden invented his cables!
Yes, linkages a re a LOT of work and heavy too. Progress was good here... Thanks for watching 😉
So good to see you doing videos. Best of luck with the chemo and a full recovery 👍
Thank you Garry. One day at a time.
I admire the wheel rims on that bike - the body colour plus white pinstripes. Very nice!
I used to build bicycle wheels.
Thank you. If you look closer, the pin stripes are actually lime green...
This man is awesome !! and so is the machine he built
Thank you very much :)
Thanks for making these pieces of history available to us. I can see the love and respect you put into these machines.
Our pleasure!
So wonderful to see you are back in your shop and able to wrench once more. Watching the excitement on your face when the engine finally ran as expected was the best part! Your craftsmanship and attention to detail make me look forward to your future videos! Also the foggy backyard scene was a great touch, kudos to Mitch!
Thank you Jasmeleg :)
Wooah. Was not expecting it to sound like that. What a machine!
Harry does sound good. At least to my ears!
Thanks for watching! 😉
Hearing your baby make noise is great medicine 😊
It is helping me to get well :) Thanks for watching..
You are a legend Brodie. You can beat that cancer 💪
Thank you Katsudan. I will prevail...
As soon as I heard that sound, I did a huge smile. One for you and the other one for the bike
Thank you Fede!
It’s great to see you again ! ……….😃😃🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉, and now … to enjoy and learn from you video ,
Thank you! 😃
Firing up an old friend, it doesn't get any better than that. Prayers for your continued recovery 🙏
Thank you.
What a GLORIOUS sound 🔊👍🔊
Thanks Joel :)
Lovely. Just Lush! However, Harry sounds like a scary machine! Thank you for this post, Mr. Brodie and Mitch. Looking forward for the next installment! May I say that you look much better Mr. Brodie. Keep it up and I wish you a speedy recovery!
Sarkis, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, Harry has a great sound! 😄
Whoooa That was so exciting to hear the First Fire. Its so incredible to see what you have Created. I do hope that you are feeling Better Paul. Our Prays are with you Dave from Australia
Thank you David. Yes, I am getting stronger and healthier! 😉
@@paulbrodie Iam Glad to hear My Friend
Fantastic! Hope you’re feeling better Paul.
Thanks Murray. Yes, getting better slowly...
First time watching - I enjoyed it very much, and I’m astounded how clean and new everything on that bike looks, as well as your whole shop! Hoping for a full recovery soon.
Thank you very much!
sorry about the crash, wonderful videos. Hope your health is holding up, awesome machines !
Thank you Thomas...
Harry highpipe is quite a stunner had heard of them but had never seen one . Thsnk you for such an intimate look at some amazing engineering.
Thank you Thomas. Harry Hi-Pipes is not exactly stock, but you can get a sense of the engine potential. I think he sounds great! 😉
I was so excited to make it , perfect episode! The monster has a wonderful voice
Yes, Harry has a bark! Thanks for watching...
Very cool, Paul! Harry sounds incredible.
Thanks Shawn. Appreciate your comment! 😉
Gorgeous bike. These were a really advanced machine for their time! wild seeing overhead cams on a bike from that era, I'm glad people like you are keeping that history alive!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Great to see you back making videos. Your channel is the only one my 5 year old daughter wants to watch with me,shes been asking why we havent watched any in a while. I sneakily watched this one but will happily watch it together again tomorrow. Take care of yourself and all the best for your ongoing recovery.
Thanks Jonathon. That's great your daughter has an interest too.
Nice Paul.. you look pretty happy to hear it run. 😊
I am! Thanks Jon..
What a glorious sound!! Beautiful workmanship too. A real work of art. Glad your getting better Paul.
Thank you Andrew...
Brilliant!
Its great to see you back and on the mend giving us great vids, I can assure you you were missed.
I can see this bike for sale in one of the large auction houses, selling for a very large sum of money and ending up in one of the exclusive museums where history is on display i.e. for instance the Barbour Museum accompianing Mr Millyards creations.
When Harry didnt run properly and the plus were wet it reminds me of my Laverda 750SF, every time I go to start it usually with a gap of a few weeks it will run on one cylinder and it can be either. I remove both plugs and heat them with a blow lamp, this works every time. I suspect its running a bit rich.
To see you back is well corth a few coffies. Thanks
Yes, I do need to sell Excelsior #005. It is currently in a smaller museum, on loan, here in BC. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Exactly how the process goes when I try to start my bike up after sitting. Carb float stuck, nothing adjusted right even though it just sat, etc. Love it!
Thanks Matt. It's the Real World!
awesome stuff paul, great to see you and the team out again doing
what you do,! the beast had to have it 😉👍👍( after a bit of
gentle persuasion, )you are a trojan, 😊
Thanks William! 🙃
Great to see the bike start up.
Peter, thanks for watching! 😉
That's amazing! Would love to hear it opened up on the track singing!
Thank you, and Yes!!!!
That is the coolest sound man...
Thanks Cuyler.
Your looking well mate i hope all is going well for you and your treatment is doing well. its nice to see some colour in your face
Thanks Chris. Every day a little stronger...
Great to see you out with the machines you so love. Hope you continue to heal.
Thank you Sandy!
6:24 - Looks like a 6 to 8 inch pipette.... I used coffee straws in the old bike shop I worked in when I was a teenager. Awesome video and I'm happy to finally meet the real Harry High Pipes.... Glad to see you back and in the shop. 😊❤️
Yes, pipette is the correct term. Thanks for watching!
@@paulbrodie - Thanks for coming back after all you've been through lately..... I wish you the best of luck in everything you do. 😊👍❤️
@@xpndblhero5170 Thank you very much! 😉
My goodness, what a sound.
Thanks Lukas!
You sound happy, look good, winter sucks, happy Thanksgiving!
Great to hear it run again, the scuff marks from the crash just adds patina. I don't think I'd would even repair them.
You're right, it's all Patina. They will not be repaired.
Fantastic piece of art!! Love your vids, i have missed them, keep on going Paul. All the best, cheers from the Netherlands.
Hello Netherlands! Thanks for watching... 😉
Great to see you back in the shop! I'd make sure to have a big red kill switch installed before taking a spin.
Thanks Jim. I did have a kill switch but everything was happening too fast!
Awesome video and narration as to how that beast operates! 👍😘
Thank you very much!
I’m glad to watch your nice video and to see that you are enjoying. Cheers from Japan 👍
Thank you very much!
Thanks Again, for my Paul Brodie FIX
Steve, thanks for watching and commenting!
Simply exquisite, Paul.
Thank you very much :)
Pilot here - carb icing is a function of how close the dew point and air temperature are, along with the humidity level. As a student pilot I had my carb ice up excessively on a July evening, when I (at that time) would have least expected it to.
Mark, you might be right, but we will never know... Thanks for commenting... 😉
What a great machine! Thanks for sharing! Great sound!
Thank you Philip!
Thanks Paul
Thanks Richard....
That bike is the best kind of terrifying 😂
Yes, you are right. I know from personal experience!
Pertaining to the throttle sticking:
My first car was a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix, and I did A LOT of burnouts(power brake/smoke show). Rarely while doing a burnout, the throttle would stick. Luckily I always had the presence of mine to turn off the ignition key, killing the engine. The strange thing is, I could never find anything wrong afterword. I eventually figured out what was happening. That car had a solid rod style throttle linkage, kinda like your bike has. While doing a burnout, the engine would torque to the side a bit, and put that linkage into a bind. When I turned off the key, the engine would return back to its resting position, removing the tension from the throttle linkage and allowing it to release and return to the idle position.
It doesn't seem like your motorcycle engine could really move around much(at least not like a 400ci V8 with worn rubber motor mounts), but maybe something(frame/forks) flexed enough to put a bind on your linkage.
Yes, the throttle mystery. We had the bike on the dyno for almost a full day, and the throttle never, ever stuck...
Definitely a man who knows his machine.
Awesome amount of work in your bike , looking good Paul 👏👍👌
Thanks Chris. I was happy that Harry finally came to life and performed as hoped for.
Great to see you and Mitch back in the workshop. You're looking much stronger and it was so good to see your happiness when Harry barked in full throat again!
Looking forward to watching more postings from you soon.
Stephan,
ex-Langley BC, of late in Moncton, fighting the rust off my lathe and tools in my workshop/shed!
Thanks Stephan. Yes, I do enjoy being back in my shop. I hope you get the rust off your lathe and tools. All the best!
Good to see you stronger and hear the roar of that beast!!! 💪💪💪💪💪
Thanks Diego.!!
Hahahaha 😆 Only Paul, but the look on your face when it fired up proper, such genuine happiness. Modern motors might be simpler to just start, but they don't look as nice and to know this w as all done without computers and by hand, fantastic. Glad you're getting up and about some now Paul, good luck with finishing the treatments.
Thanks very much. Yes, firing up Harry can make me very Happy!
