Removing orchids from their current location isnt ideal, but these people have mentioned that the area may be cleared, especially when they are in Borneo, lots of land is cleared for farming e.g. palm oil, rice, etc., so them collecting some orchids is technically salvaging them. I also sparingly collect orchids from dead trees as I know I sm technically saving them as they will die and orchids cannot live on fallen trees. People also collect plants from their habitat for research and ornamental use often, for example, a Australian man regularly digs small trees from bushland to create bonsai, in a documentary, a scientist collected Tillandsia species from Mexico for creation of hybrids and study etc. Also, it seems that they are in no way trying to exploit the plants or sell them to Europe etc, they are simply collecting a few for personal ornamental purposes.
The orchids belong to their natural growing place, in a few years you will only be able to collect soil
save the orchids before the government clears the forest

You shouldn't take the orchid from it's natural habitat, this is considered as wildlife poaching
