I never to this day understood how rough cutt wasn’t huge. Their contemporaries were so weak compared to these guys. Saw em twice and they killed it both times. Paul shortino is a top ten of mine. All feel.👊🔥👊
I agree - should have been much bigger - they had two factors working against them - nobody within Warner Bros Records seemed to care about them and the result: VERY LITTLE EFFORT on promoting them - their songs did not get radio or Mtv airplay to any significant extent - the 2nd factor - on that 1st album - they really don't have any solid single - this was rectified on the 2nd album but that 1st album, most of the songs lack a hook (Round N Round, We're Not Gonna Take It, etc) and that's why Warner Brothers had them do videos for the two cover songs on that album (Never Gonna Die, Piece of My Heart)
@@Swanlord05 agreed 👍🏾. For me this song "Dreaming again" was the best for this band and the most melodic. Transmits a deep different energy. It was a waste of the voice for poorly rhythmic songs
I saw Rough Cutt open for Dio in September of '85. To date, they are still the best opening act I have seen. They were flat out amazing. I met Matt Thorr at the local mall and got a few autographs as he was there with RJD....very cool.
I went to see Dio in 1985 because Rough Cutt was to be the opening band. Disappointed when the were replaced at the last minute by another band (Keel - who were awesome anyway) but really wanted to see these guys.
Fucking GREAT band. Much more talented than the majority of the bands around at that time. Paul Shortino is one of my favorites, and has not lost that killer voice to this day.
this brings me right back to seeing them open for Dio in 1985. Nobody had a clue who they were but they soon won over the crowd by sheer talent and great songs from that first album. They were among the best of the 80s metal bands, I don't get why they never caught on with people
I interviewed these guys for my Cable show back in 1985 at the Capital Center in Largo Maryland. They were great during and after the interview. They were touring with DIO and had a chance to meet Ronnie. This is one of my favorite songs. There is nothing like the old 80's Metal. These guys put on a Hell of a show and of course so did DIO :-) RIP
I can't decide whether midnight or paul shortino is my favourite rock vocalist of all time. But he was def in the top 3. His sound was distinctive and powerful.
J.D. Soos I mean yeah; they had a cool band name for starters - not a generic one like so many others had during that era. "Rough Cutt" stands out. They had a great image (well, not so much different of other bands that time), but most important of all - super b, memorable songs.
Saw them opening for Dio in 85 at the Spectrum in Philly. Amazing! We all called the guitarists "mini George Lynches". His voice is above and beyond sooo many others!
I just discovered this band. I can’t believe this amazing vocalist has eluded me for 40 years; why does this cat(Paul S.) not have a more extensive catalog. Kind of brings to mind Fleishman and McKauley(MSG); both deserved more time in the studio.
Paul has a great voice, I remember these guys I loved one of their records, it is still hot fresh metal to me cuz they kinda got lost in the shuffle of the HEAVY METAL dawn. would love to get their music again. very great singer he can sing. a HEAVY METAL REVIVAL would be nice with all the high octane metal. let the party come again to a two-decade party. we need guys like these lovers of great music. the party must happen again woman makes men do weird things like creating an instrument and singing to your loved ones. cheerz to a new era of great music.
Wish to hell I could've seen them in person. Love this band, & may still have RC cassettes, somewhere. You can tell they're having fun playing, & that always makes a hell of a difference.
There's a mystic moon horizon Setting in the east And a rainbow has fallen Pot of gold at me feet When I woke up that morning with no one by my side I thought for a moment Like a flash before my eyes Oh no... I was at that show . They played great, but it was still DIO's show . And, of course, it had to rain half way through the show. Mama's Boys had the PA go out on them, but they still played their ass off.
One of the VERY FEW rock singers that sounded live exactly like they did on the record. I love the sound of the buzzing amps...that brings back memories of so many concerts in the 80's...
Paul Shortino rhymes with Dio, but I don't think it is the same. He had a vocal line in the Live Aid crap back in the eighties also. One of the most underrated bands of the period, probably because they weren't cute and dynamic. The talent is apparent, but that wasn't what sold records at that time. (Refer to Saxon, ugly but incredible) One of the best albums I ever bought! (Cassette Tape)
2 reasons why ROUGH CUTT didn't make it even though they SHOULD HAVE : The band was basically a training ground for artists . Band members always leaving , replaced by new ones & the lack of songwriting in the band . There first album , 5 out of the 10 songs were co-written either by Ronnie James Dio or his wife Wendy . If they had the songwriting part down & band members actually sticking to the band for more then a year or 2 then i think they would've went very far .
Goodness gracious, this man could sing! Heads and shoulders above the great majority of his peers. He has killer tone!
Paul Shortino possesses a truly magnificent voice.....
Very underrated band. I love Rough Cutt.
Love this song. Paul Shortino voice is powerful.
One of the greatest bands of the 80's. I wish they had the recognition they deserve
I'm amazed at how close this sounds to the original album version. Great song! What a "blast from the past"!
One of my favorite vocalists!
Same

It's a very good band.... They just needed a little bit more melody in their stuff.... They were heavy but not melodic enuff
@@Swanlord05 well tgus song oozes melody. Kullwe twin 🎸 s. And Jesus...1 of the most amazing singers...period.

Bad management is why they never made big. They also were not promoted as they should have been. Such a shame as they were a very talented band!!

Wow the 80's I miss em

Yup saw them on this tour in Phoenix. Bought the album next day. Thought they were great in concert
Cool Band...great song...!
I was at that concert !! They played as the sun came up, and right after it rained ! Well worth the trip !
Paul is a great singer and can still sing great...saw him at "raiding the rock vault" in vegas & put on a great show
I had this dream of playing this gig with this weather in Japan on many occasions. I hope these guys knew the day.
INCREDIBLE! Shortino is the man!
Paul and the Rough Cutters are one of the best acts of those years !!! Awesome !!! Salus y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
This VID gives me PURE JOY!!!
This band had it all.

Looks like a case of these guys being too talented, for their own good. They should have been huge.
100% Agree....Different style but, much like the same result as Anvil.

Adam Swindoll plus he was in the SPINAL TAP movie for 4 minutes 🤣🤣🤣
I discovered them yesterday - i cant stop playing this song. ....simply spectacular.

Saw them on the 2017 Monsters of Rock cruise out of Florida. They sounded fantastic.
ONE OF THE GREATEST VOICES IN ROCK
Wish to hell I could've seen them in person. Love this band, & may still have RC cassettes, somewhere. You can tell they're having fun playing, & that always makes a hell of a difference.
Always gets my vote for top ten vocalists of rock. Hands down.hes up there w the big names in my book
For those of you who don't know, the lead started singing for Quiet Riot, and still kicks ass!!!
There's a mystic moon horizon
Setting in the east
And a rainbow has fallen

And there is nothing to fear
If they should turn out the lights
If I face my fears, They'll all disappear
Like things that go bump in the night!
Oh no... I feel I'm dreaming again
Oh no... I'm dreaming
Oh no... I feel I'm dreaming again
Oh no... I'm dreaming
There's a vision in the mirror
Suddenly appears out of nowhere
Eyes glow in the night
In shadows of the light
So beware
There's a beauty in bed
It's something she said
To make me afraid of the night
If I face my fears, they'll all disappear
Like the woman who did that night
Oh no... I feel I'm dreaming again
Oh no... I'm dreaming
Oh no... I feel I'm dreaming again
Oh no... I'm dreaming
rockrabbitt Yeah. No shit. We have ears and can hear the words.
Thank you for the lyrics
I love Paul’s on the Quiet Riot album he did. Excellent album!
Was he on the 1988 album cause i have always wondered who is singing on that album cause i know that it isn’t Kevin Dubrow
I was at that show . They played great, but it was still DIO's show . And, of course, it had to rain half way through the show. Mama's Boys had the PA go out on them, but they still played their ass off.
Paul can sing always love him
Great singer!!
Man what a performance!
Such a great band. They should have been huge.
too bad there is only 4 songs from this show on video. I had this on VHS for years. great band.

Paul Omg what a voice 😱💥🔥💪💪🔝 you are a beast 💯💯. Amazing 🥇
Sounds like a grittier Steve Perry. Love It!
i love the voice......
Saw them w/Dio Atlanta, Ga. the Omni (1985?) I'll cut your heart out! Awesome!
I agree. This is their best song.
It was awesome show...!!

one of my favorite lead breaks of all time
What great live drum tone, I just discovered this song. Really great song.
hermosa cancion lo mejor¡¡¡¡¡¡
Paul doesn’t get the respect for being one of the most powerful singers in metal
Shortino Is The Best
Should be a household name
Best sunder EVER!
Love this Goddamn song. Shortino has Dio-level pipes....or as close as a mortal can have to King Ronnie R.I.P.
I seen that same concert in Indiana!
One of the VERY FEW rock singers that sounded live exactly like they did on the record.
I love the sound of the buzzing amps...that brings back memories of so many concerts in the 80's...
bourght thweir first to albums, great stuff :)
.... wild ..
that was a solid album - above most other bands
Paul still has those good pipes on him
Lol I'm your biggest goddamn fan!!!!
he would make a good journey frontman
2:20 - 2:50 chills!
oh man...
heh paul shortino is awesome
Shortino was a great metal singer. I was disappointed Rough Cutt didnt do better. Their guitar sound was fkn killer...like Accept. I miss those days

como le cagaron el sonido al violero rubio no suena nada
I HAVE KELLY GUITARS TOO!
Is it me or does that 60 cycle hum really irritate?
Paul should have focused on mature songs like this, instead of "party rock" crap!
Such a killer band and they were thousands times better then motley clowns 🤡🤡🤡
MMM what about guns N roses opening for and kickin Aerosmith ass
You gotta get that ground hum out before the show though.
