- We are proud to introduce the latest from the Gibson Custom Shop: The Collector’s Edition 1958 Flying V and Explorer. Made with Korina and Brazilian rosewood, these are Murphy Lab-aged clones of the highly collectible original guitars from 1958.
In 1958, the year they were introduced, Gibson shipped only 19 Explorers and 81 Flying Vs - the exact numbers our Custom Shop luthiers have created for this collector’s edition. Their space-age and futuristic design was ahead of its time. As the years passed and as their style caught on, their value as collectibles grew. Today they are the world’s most valuable and sought-after vintage guitars. The guitars were discovered tucked into garages. Wrapped in trash bags. Covered in dust. A lucky few people were able to drag out that old brown case and open it to see the natural Korina body in its plush pink bed.
We didn’t want to just reissue them - we wanted to clone them - to authentically recreate them in every exacting detail. It took three years to ethically source the tonewoods. Specimens in museums and collections were scanned with a 3D wand, and every dimension and contour was put into a digital model and precisely reproduced. Then they were custom-aged by the artisans in the Murphy Lab to give them the vibe and feel of the originals: the lacquer checking, subtle neck wear, and hardware patina of instruments that have spent 60 years in the careful hands of musicians.
These aren’t tributes. They’re clones. And they’re available now from the Gibson Garage. Call now for ordering information. +1 (615) 933-6000

The “trash bag V” was a nice touch but As a native San Antonian the Explorer in the back window of the car really got to me. Ponty “Guitar” Gonzales will forever be a legend to me
Thanks for noticing
Kirk Fletcher is such a good player
Blues Lawyer has entered the chat!
I've owned Gibson Explorers, Gibson Flying Vs...even an Epiphone "Amos"... these guitars are Awesome!
Yes, totally agree with you... 💯
Love, love, love Kirk Fletcher's guitar playing and Korina Explorers! What a treat!
Lawyers, Cardiologists and Hedge Fund Managers rejoice! Another 20 thousand dollar guitar!
The '92... by doing nothing to justify the price gouging!
With the numbers they're producing and the.. 'unique' ordering process, money won't even be enough to get you one of these - so the lawyers, cardiologists and hedge fund managers will be left out too just like the rest of us.
30 thousand.
@@shelbyavant5081 Is that accurate? Did you call for a price quote?
@@tacoconch7678 Trogly's just did an episode a couple days ago. 81 V's, 20k. 19 Explorers, 30k.
That guitar player has a very sweet touch in he's playing. Loved that blue's tune.
that s kirk fletcher, he is coocking big time. greetings from morocco
@@adil1965able Thank's for letting me know man!
Damn that explorer is beautiful. The explorer is my favourite guitar shape.
Y’all better have given Kirk that explorer.
Do you mean James?
Do you mean me?
Kirk doesn't play an Explorer.
Obviously he doesn't mean Kirk Hammett, you goofballs. Haha
Yeah I meant Kirk Fletcher the guy in this video.
I wish I could get my hands on that explorer!
Me too. Explorer junkie.
Buy the Epiphone version and swap out the pickups and your done , they have gotten better than Gibson with their QC in the past few years. I recently purchased the LP Studio and an SG 400 Pro. They were both flawless , no sharp frets , decent nuts and grover tuners. The intonation and set-up was nearly perfect out of the box. The only thing i did was lower the action on the SG and put new strings on both and they play like butter. The pro buckers do just fine for now!
@@mikeg.9238 Hahaha ;-)
I love that Gibson is doing all these videos. The team behind all their shows is doing an amazing job storytelling!👏🏻 and the visuals are beautiful!💎
The legends are back!
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH ITALY !
It's like you guys created a time machine!!! I Love it!!!
Middle position on a V is my favourite sound… just incredible!!!! Knocked it out of the park Gibson!!
Love the shots at the basement. ❤️
Looking good Gibson. Beautiful guitars!
My favorite guitar, ever. Especially the Gibson.
Korina! Brazilian Rosewood! Gibson Murphy Labs! These have sooooo much LOVE in them. Well Done! Astounding Work!
I was born in 59 so anything pertaining to that year would be magic, but my Heart goes out to this pair!,. 🤎🤎
So awesome to see Gibson issuing these two champions from the late 50’s..I was fortunate to have grabbed an Epi Bonamassa “Amos” V when they came out and that’s a fantastic rendition.. I can only imagine what these would be like at $20,000…WOW!!
Luth Lucky you , would have loved to have gotten that Bonamassa V ! \m/
My two most favourite guitars of all time
Thanks Gibson for doing a demo of an Explorer without a HM Distortion pedal in the chain. I LOVE my 2019 Explorer… and the clean sound of the (maybe slightly overdriven) humbuckers. If only I could add one of these to the collection.
I absolutely love Explorers. I would love to have the one in this video!!
Perfect musician for this series of instruments. Kirk Fletcher carries the torch 🔥
GOD LORD! Those sound amazing! Gibson Inc...you guys (and ladies) have really gone from strength to strength in recent years. I just picked up a 2021 ES 335 and it ROCKS! The calibrated t-type p/u are fantastic and the build quality on my example is rock solid. With all sincerity...you guys are crushing it. And I NEVER, EVER go out of my way to hype a brand...EVER. But well f'n done! Bravo!
Im a Firebird guy. An 07' Gibson Custom Shop TV White Firebird VII w/Mini Humbuckers & An Epiphone Slash Signiture Firebird w/EMG Het-Set through my 04' Mesa Single Rectifier solo head(5x pre amp tube series 2) and 2x12 Mesa Recto cab. I really dig the korina flying V's! Thanks for letting me share.
Nice one Matt. Yes please!
Such a beautiful guitar!! Oh baby yessss!!
Great presentation Mat.
Young players need cheap V's! This is awesome, but I would really love to see y'all reissue the Faded series of V's and Explorers, because that gave young players, like me, an opportunity to get into these fantastic guitars, become a fan of them, and then hanker for something like this in the future. I promise you, you get affordable V's and Explorers into the hands of young players, they will grow up wanting one of the more expensive models, and it will pay off. Kudos on this project nonetheless!
Epiphones exist and are just Gibsons without the Gibson name
@@snakezase2998 They are absolutely not. They are made with different woods and a different level of construction. They are good. They are not Gibsons
@@TheChadPad Gibson literally owns the brand
@@TheChadPad and from what I’ve heard recently they might be better then modern Gibsons
@@snakezase2998 That doesn't mean they are the same guitars with different names
I love how I will never be able to try one of these out
They are incredible !
I bought an Epiphone explorer korina. @$918 w taxes in canada. F'ing beautiful and i love it.
Id still LOVE to have a Gibson explorer.
OH YES!!! Please Gibson make non-limited production Korina models available at a reasonable price for the rest of us!!:)
Coming this Fall
@@gibsonguitar Thanks Gibson! I can wait until Fall!!!
@@gibsonguitar I'm definitely getting a korina explorer this fall then
They're iconic guitars and great to see them again. I hear that all the Explorers are already sold.........and so it goes.
I'll buy the Epi version and swap out the pickups for under a grand.....
@@mikeg.9238 Yes there's a slight price difference between those two Mike ..............lol
@@stevehughes1510 Slight? Ya think , my point is for what they're charging , they should be absolutely flawless. There's always something wrong , kinda like driving a Ford. Whether you're spending 10 g's or 60 grand for a truck. Their shouldn't even be a minor flaw
@@mikeg.9238 Tongue in cheek comment from me Mike. They're Murphy Lab'd so have got that older gnarly look to them and to me they're good for the collector, pretty sure a handful of these will be bought by Japanese guys etc. I've got a VOS M2M ES 335 in the mix with the Customshop currently and when it arrIves to me in the next 6 months(hopefully) I don't expect it will be perfect, there's still things that I will need to do as with the other 5 x gibby historics I've bought in the last 18 years, not major things but adjustments here and there to suit me and my playing requirements.
@@stevehughes1510 Yeah well that stuff is normal , everyone likes their guitars tweaked to their specific needs and likes. Action , strings etc.. but to me spending that kind of money it should be absolutely perfect , even if you want that patina look. The paint shouldn't be falling off. It just seems like there's always some issue with Gibson , with QC or whatever. You'd think a company that's been around forever would have it down by now. For what they cost , their shouldn't be any issues. I have friends who own Gibson's and it's a love hate relationship , been like that for decades it seems...
No love for the Moderne! I love all three of that series. 💛
Love my Original Collection Flying V
The heavy metal guitar!!! 🤘❤
Explorer is amazing! ❤
I want that explorer!
Magic :-D and power of Love music
Looks amazing as you’d expect from Gibson
Jaw Dropping!! OOf, I got a bruise on me' chin. Can't wait for the LP and ES version!! Ü♫
Cheers Gibson, I love me a bit of Kirk Fletcher's playing
Change a life Gibson... One of these would definitely change my life for the better.
These will sell out FAST!
Aww, man! That Explorer looks and sounds so tasty! I'm a Les Paul guy through and through but I have to get my hands on one and try it out!
Lol! Good luck with that.
@@MajorDook1 I live in Cologne and chances are high that music store (being Europe's biggest music retailer) gets at least one of them...
@@phrymcdunstan Well all reports say the Explorers are already sold out. So maybe you'll see one of the few flying Vs that aren't sold yet. But I think they will be sold out in the next few days too.
@@MajorDook1 well, maybe they'll make a couple more next year...
I am a very big fan of the v as a blues man musician
Million dollar guitars ! Loves me some explorers. 😋
Hopefully you guys come out with a Vos run of korina a explorers.
Coming this Fall
@@gibsonguitar any chance you could tell me the prices of them so I can prepare
Great to see a brand that had insane finishing and quality control issues doing the right thing.
It would be a shame if the guitar world lost Gibson, no one build guitars like you guys.
These last anouncements gave me chills: Dave Mustaine, Kirk Hammett and Korina 58? I'm amazed.
(Maybe you guys are forgetting a Papa who popularized Explorer as f***...)
Just WOW!!!
I just buy 1983 Flying V G-058 , with a special candy apple red , this guitar means a lot to me
1.This guitar and I was born in 1983
2.The serial number is special to me or you can say that's perfect mean for this guitar (G = Gibson , 058 = the year of Flying V first made)
Murphy Lab was cool BTW , I have a 2013 20th Anniversary TM R9 , Custom bucker rocks !
I can only imagine what they're going to ask for these.....ugh. SO cool but like the originals, most of us will never see one, let alone play one.
I'm guessing 20-30k
When I see a Korina explorer I think of Allen Collins.......skynyrd......and the smoking free bird solo. Allen had more than 1 explorer. I believe he had 3.
Ive oned a couple Epiphone Korina 50s reissue V's and they ARE AWESOME,.and oh so beautiful ( despite being a bit awkward to play while sitting ). HOWWEVeR,..ig Gibson made a "affordable " & "attainable" Flying V Korina then THAT guitar would be both my B-day and X-mas present to myself this year ( instead of that Custom Shop Strat im eyeing)! What say YOU Gibson?
Stunning...but the price of these things will even give dentists sleepless nights.
30,000
Did you notice the blue 335, are they bring back the DG335
Hey I remember seeing Darren DuBose on justified and deadwood
Cool to see this happening, but I wonder if goes over well if Gibson would "reissue" the korina Moderne.
I thought the Modernes were pretty good that they released in 2012. Loved those split headstocks that were originally on the Gibson Futuras.
@@felicelococo9226 I have one from 2019 and honestly don't like the headstock. It looks cool, but if you look at the nut it binds so much from the strings jutting off that it is hard to keep in tune. The ones with the Gumby headstock don't have that issue as much because the string trees cause a straight sting pull through the nut. I'm currently working on putting those string trees into the headstock to help fix that issue.
Find us an original example to scan, and we will do it!!!
@@gibsonguitar Isn't that near to impossible? I saw one in the guitar book and George Gruhn claimed it was a fake.
@@gibsonguitar Billy Gibbons says he has one @Billy F Gibbons
Where’s the Moderne?
and where‘s the Futura
💛
Gibson are just killin' it right now! Wow.
I would love to buy the V, but think the CITEs rules around Brazilian Rosewood means that they can only be sold within the USA.
The Explorer is sold out already. The V is out there. Starting at $20k, only going to go up from there with re-sellers. Good luck getting one
So these aren't for musicians.
@@kirabarsmith9353 Not unless you're a millionaire musician.
Ripoff ,ripoff,ripoff,overpriced ripoff!!!
I'm amazed they sourced some Korina to do this. Getting very rare, that wood.
@@johnvcougar It certainly isn't 20k rare.
Wish if i could own a gibbon one day
Brother Kirk representing!
Trogly better get these for a review and demo!
He will
Haha
yup
He said in the video he got them
He will get them ,then price gouge someone.
Hi, I have an Epiphone Explorer 1958 Korina (yellow) and I need a guitar stand like this at 1:20 so it fits the Explorer Shape.
Can anyone tell me the name of this particular stand at 1:20? The only one I can find in the market is "Fender Universal Guitar Stand".
Lefty model available?
I love FV!
I wonder if Gibson will ever openly discuss the Moderne. Even today that seems to be a guitar that’s rarely mentioned 🤷🏻♂️
I wish I could afford one! lol :(
I love how you scan originals yet the Historic instruments neva seem to change year to year. And the Murphy Lab finish is the not anything different then any other historic. You can planly see this the way it shatters when you try to freeze them . I have been with the Historic line from the being 28 years, and have had hundreds. I also had a Korean V and Explorer.
Scam to justify raising the price , but doing nothing different!
Korean?
🤘🏻The guitars of MetallicA and Running Wild🤘🏻
Airbourne
Here’s hoping there’s another run next year seeing that they’re all spoken for… more explorers please!
Please offer these for lefties @Gibson
Ill take 1 of each
Wish you guys would have did a 60th anniversary models in 2018 instead of waiting till 2021 to reissuing them
A wonderful thing!,. 🤎🤎
Want to buy the V.. but then I saw the price 🤯🤯🤯
The correct term is typeface; font refers to its size.
Explorers rule !
Are the Explorers already sold out?
Kirk Fletcher!!!!
😍😍
I miss my ebony explorer...had to sell it to make some money in a point of my life.
4th comment. Amazing guitars!!

Buy a new car or one of these..... Thing is the Guitar will be worth more than the car in a few years... I say GO FOR IT!!!
They look great but imagine they will be ridiculously priced !
Peter As with all Gibsons!
@@mikeg.9238 no but especially these Murphy aged reissues, I heard around 20K !
@@p_1210 Complete waste of money , i'm sure you're aware of the problems they're having in the lab?
@@mikeg.9238 agree, ridiculous price
@@p_1210 Yup....
I watched the whole ad because of Kirk Fletcher.
I kind of want an explorer now, but I think Kirk is the only man over 40 to not look like a prat playing one.
I’d like to see an 84 reissue of the explorer with no pick guard again those things are sick maybe see if you guys can get Kirk to talk to James and pull something off
Please
Vintage guitars turning up cheap hasn’t happened in a long time. These guitars look like a good thing, I don’t see them being affordable.
Teasing Gibson Amps as well maybe?
... with Mesa guts?!?
@@johnvcougar Wouldn't be right without the original wacky tube compliments I guess..
You know people will be fighting over these like crazy when there is no price and just the phone number is listed to the Gibson garage.
Not a huge fan a v guitars, but man that flying v looks and sounds kick ass!!
That’s not a phone number… that is the price! 😂
@@TheTimBlackburn lol $1 615 933.6000 price tag would not surprise me.
Great, but please, do the same with the Gibson basses 😔
Alright you can just take my wallet
If they took my wallet it wouldn’t even pay for a knob😂
More like a second mortgage 😁
Are all of these aged? I'm looking for a V or Explorer but every one I've found has been aged.
VOS versions coming in September
If i can only make that amount of money with all the rosewood we can get here...
I’m sure the doctors and lawyers are very excited to keep this in a case in the closet.
Exactly lol!!!
I am a doctor. A young one though, and I do play my guitars. So, if I ever get the opportunity to own one, it’s definitely getting played a lot. Sadly, doctors where I am currently located can’t even afford Epiphones. Hopefully, one day, I’ll buy a stash of those Korina Flying Vs and a bunch of custom ordered ones too.
