Chris Buck - "at least, while sat down, the Flying V is a bit of a nightmare to play to say the least". Then, whilst seated, demonstrates that 'nightmares' can be sublime.
I have come back to Chris' videos a thousand of times. You know what? I am getting tired of this sliding, squeezing and the same style licks. Didn't expect this but that's what happened.🤷♂️
Fvck, man. A super ultra rare guitar and it's outshined by the playing. One of the most expressive guitar players around today. Keep up the good work, mate.
I owned this guitar from 1967 until 1988 and the auction site has my provenance statement. It is just amazing to see and hear this guitar again. I will be publishing my historical narrative of the "gap" at some point. AMAZING!!!
I am a diehard Les Paul guy, always have and always will be, but my number one most favorite guitar ever made is the 58 Flying V. I can’t afford a 10K Gibson custom shop V, so I went to precision guitar in Canada and picked up a White African Limba aka Korina neck and body. And built my own! I was meticulous with the details. It turned out incredible. That’s been 3 years ago since I built it. Used all Gibson parts and hardware. I’ve played it so much the finish is starting to wear off the neck. Pretty sweet! Chris Buck you are a stellar guitar player. I also love your preset on my Helix. I use amps and pedals at the house, but when I’m at the church playing or traveling, I use my helix. And I love using your preset! Keep killing it brother!! ❤❤❤❤🎉
I am a 1958 vintage man, 65 years and still playing guitar and loving music, perhaps they should issue all those born in '58 with a guitar made in that year! Nice one Chris, very interesting vlog mate., and great playing of course.
You really have the knack to play epic solos at the drop of a hat. I watch players on UA-cam daily but most of the time I just find myself saying "WTF" watching your videos.
Hi Chris, I discovered you thanks to an Italian guitarist who talked about you on his channel. I love the way you play and I would love to see you play live, maybe in Italy! All the best Alex
YES kids that is what a "jam" is! wow! It is so cool and funny how both Gibson and Fender were keeping an eye on what the other guy was doing, for example, at one point Fender experimented with different woods on strats and one of those woods was Korina! They are rare but there are Korina strats out there. Thanks Chris! oh and great guitar eh?
You have got to be kidding me! That guitar is insane, but the notes were pure magic. Chris, you never fail to impress. Thank you for the fantastic music.
Excellent playing as usual, Chris. That guitar sounds fantastic! I love the way the Flying Vs "chime" in ways the Les Pauls . . well . . don't chime. As a massive Wishbone Ash fan in general, and an Andy Powell fan in particular, it was great to hear this example also chime so musically. How and why anyone would intentionally sand a significant amount of wood off the back of the neck is just beyond me. I mean: If you don't like a guitar with a fat neck, then just buy another guitar that wasn't made by Gibson in 1958!! I am a huge Epiphone enthusiast, and I play and collect the Riviera and Sheraton models, among others. One that was particularly appealing to me was the surf green Riviera with the full-size humbuckers. I was being out-bid by those with the "Bid-napper" program every time one of these super rare coloured models came up for sale on Ebay, so I bit the bullet and paid for my own subscription to Bid-napper, but although it did enable me to buy a couple of white Sheratons, no surf green Rivieras came up for sale at all . . leaving me to think that they'd all been accounted for. By that I mean: It was 2016 by this time and the surf green models were all made in 1996-97. Guitars like this eventually find their way into the hands of people who truly appreciate them. Late in December 2016 a surf green Riviera appeared on Ebay. It was in mint condition . . apart from the scratch plate which had been modified by the owner to take a small master volume knob so that he could do volume swells!! In addition he'd chiselled away enough of the body timber to accommodate the pot. Thankfully none of the missing wood was visible with the scratchplate in place. Some people just don't deserve to have nice things!! If you're gonna do volume swells, then buy a bloody Strat! They even come in surf green, for God's sake!! So, a guitar that I normally would have had nothing to do with because of that issue became mine simply because it was so exceedingly rare. We re-wired it and replaced the white scratchplate with another that didn't have cancer. Mine was made in 1996. I eventually got another one from 1997, but its neck was too thin for me. So I sold it to a guy in Sydney. He dropped it on its head and damaged it in the process. The only other one I've seen in the seven years since I got my first one was only suitable for parts, the headstock having been completely broken off. So, all things considered, I did the right thing buying mine. It plays fantastic, and sounds fantastic too, something that the video here doesn't fully capture because of the amp not being right for it. The Marshall VS65R model amps are only really suitable for grunge. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/RqcL-WFwD20/v-deo.html
I’ve got an Epiphone ‘58 Korina Vee made in the Czech Republic 2001 and bought new in Rome. Definitely fulfils all my Vee needs. It’s feels very light for so much wood so I’ve always assumed that’s why they used Korina.
Hi Chris not forgetting the master of the flying V and a guitarists guitarist , one Andy Powell of wishbone Ash...still touring today . Fabulous melodic player . Check out his solos on e.g. Sometime World or leaf and stream ....flying V magic
Ohhh! I wish I had some of that attack! I owned a V90 for 25 years and it had a little flip down leg rest. Maybe not very rock n roll but it made it surprisingly practical and well balanced.
So back in the late 80s and early 90s I worked on the outskirts of London. I used a gym near where I worked and talking to the owner we discovered a shared love of guitars. He had some old ones that were the start of a collection and included a beautiful 1937 Gibson acoustic that he let me play. One guitar he mentioned but I never saw was a Flying V that he admitted cost him "a few thousand". The way he described its history it was one of the first shipped to the UK but I just read the auction derails which says the one in this video came here in 1990. But that was about the time that this guy bought his. And he told me that it was not the most expensive because it had been refinished having at some point in its life been painted green. And in the GH details there is mention of green paint residue. I wonder.....
That later demo on the bridge pickup sounded incredible. It's not a tone I would typically chase, super clean and dry(maybe a little reverb or room ambience). The notes were just so pristine, certainly not the kind of sound you can hide your mistakes behind. Idk, I always enjoy your playing immensely but that was something special.
Another great video Chris!!!! Fantastic guitar and outstanding playing. I hope to one day play a burst or V or Explorer just to see how they are and also just so I can say I played one lol!! Keep up the great work 🎸
Nicely done, I sold my Vee last year ! It’s not my sort of guitar ? Or is it maybe I was wrong, but seeing how Chris wrestles with it on his lap, of coarse that’s Vee thing ! I don’t know but this was inspiring to watch. I regret having to sell it anyway Of coarse we all knew Chris would play it like a dream regardless
That water bottle with the syringe could be filled with a micro polishing liquid compound that also works as an excellent lapping fluid… something like that would be extremely useful for both polishing the lacquer on the fretboard and as a top notch lapping fluid.
Great video and great playing. I will say though, it says a lot about a company if people really think their best year was well over half a century ago....
im normally not a corksniffer but that v just sounds better than most guitars and it didn't hurt the way you played that first solo. this one ill studdy a bit before i try it.
Chris Buck - "at least, while sat down, the Flying V is a bit of a nightmare to play to say the least". Then, whilst seated, demonstrates that 'nightmares' can be sublime.
The solo was simply out of this world. I will definitely come back to this video thousands of times.
Theres a video where he plays it on an SG and I remember watching it 500 times over to learn it!
I have come back to Chris' videos a thousand of times. You know what? I am getting tired of this sliding, squeezing and the same style licks.
Didn't expect this but that's what happened.🤷♂️
Yeah this one was outstanding
I already have ❤
@@goeri2 It must be your ears. it certainly isn't what I listened too. Tired of his play? Time for a coffee and a holiday mate
Fvck, man. A super ultra rare guitar and it's outshined by the playing. One of the most expressive guitar players around today. Keep up the good work, mate.

It really doesn't matter what guitar Chris is playing, it always sounds fantastic.

Outstanding Performance Chris
Chris Buck. The King of Dynamics. All hail the King.
Saw this guy for the first time ever today and I'm learning every solo I've seen him play. Which is four so far.
I love this stuff.
30 seconds in and that IS THE TONE. My lord that's a perfect sounding guitar
Chris never ceases to amaze. From creativity to flying fingers ( no pun intended ) on both hands, his style and mastery is sometimes mind boggling!
Dude your playing is unmatched. Those bends are mean!!
I am a 1958 vintage man, 65 years and still playing guitar and loving music, perhaps they should issue all those born in '58 with a guitar made in that year! Nice one Chris, very interesting vlog mate., and great playing of course.
And again Chris, that opening solo was so out of this world. Mind-blowing.
I love how no matter what guitar you play, you always sound like you! Stellar playing as always
Yeah - I think his fuzz/other effects cloak each guitar with a similar sound!
Gobsmakingly awesome opening!!!
I just love the music in this video, which is my typical reaction when you play.
My God Chris… What an emotional solo… Thanx for contents… but… F*ck! What a solo!
Awesome video Chris! A pleasure to have you over. 🙏
You really have the knack to play epic solos at the drop of a hat. I watch players on UA-cam daily but most of the time I just find myself saying
"WTF" watching your videos.
Chris, I’m not going to say that you need a V because you truly don’t, but that V definitely needs you. 🙏🏻🤘❤️🔥👌🏻

awesome, chris! i mean: you, your playing.
That may be the best tone I have heard you play with. That opening solo was incredible man!
Holy smokes..
0:55 right in the feels. Right in the damn teary-eyed feels.
Outstanding as always Mr B... I won't be bidding though 😁
You have got to be kidding me! That guitar is insane, but the notes were pure magic. Chris, you never fail to impress. Thank you for the fantastic music.
Two of my favorite Chris Buck solos bookending this video. Awesome
It’s such a great surprise when you forget it’s Friday, and all of a sudden ya notice a new Chris Buck video! Good days, good days.
They don't come any better. Great playing Chris. Not afraid to milk that suker!👍
Once again Chris, you knock it out of the ballpark … and with one incredible guitar;-)
I don't care about the guitars that much. I come here mostly to hear You play, Chris. Ear candy!
Best sounding one you’ve had.
Such a musical tone
WOW mate! I don’t know which was more impressive… the V or that ripping, melodic solo! 🤯
I can tell you’re one hell of a writer. ✌🏻
You could play a broomstick tied with string attached to a washtub and still be recognizable as the fabulous Chris Buck. Great fretwork!
Burning HOT Chris: WOW!
Damn. That solo was absolutely blazing!!! So much fire in your playing!
That Jam starting at 7:20! You were clearly inspired Chris. Cheers
Just magical. Wow
This guitar sounds crazy good! Top 5 on the channel for sure wow
Absolutely stunning. YOU, surely, are this guitar's rightful owner! You deserve it.
W0W!
The best guitar channel on YT
Wow - you have such a gift for playing. Thanks for sharing with us!
Beautiful jams as usual!
Amazing playing on the outro! The low bends / vibrato were badass!

FFS, Chris, that guitar is going to catch fire and you'll have to work a thousand shows to pay it off! Freakin' brilliant stuff, my man!
The string through is so cool
I’ve got an Epiphone ‘58 Korina Vee made in the Czech Republic 2001 and bought new in Rome. Definitely fulfils all my Vee needs. It’s feels very light for so much wood so I’ve always assumed that’s why they used Korina.
Awesome opening solo Chris! 🔥🔥🔥
Why do those things sound so incredible? Chris brings the best out of it
Mate, you're incredible and my gawwddddd too good
Hi Chris not forgetting the master of the flying V and a guitarists guitarist , one Andy Powell of wishbone Ash...still touring today . Fabulous melodic player . Check out his solos on e.g. Sometime World or leaf and stream ....flying V magic
amazing JAM
You have a do a Q&A video one day
3:06 OBJECTION! The Moderne is the best of the three. Especially with a Gumby headstock.
Objection overruled and if you insist on this behavior I will have to have the court officer remove you from the court.
Is your playing still getting better ffs! Brilliant Chris!
This plank of wood had to wait 65 years to get played in this incredible way.
Brilliant!! Very interesting info and 3 incredible jams!!
That must’ve been a surreal joy to play Chris. I hope they’ve given you a generous few quid for showcasing their guitar. You deserve it 🤘
My 83 with Shaw pick ups worx!
Amazing outro!!!
Ohhh! I wish I had some of that attack!
I owned a V90 for 25 years and it had a little flip down leg rest. Maybe not very rock n roll but it made it surprisingly practical and well balanced.
The Flying V has sound all of its own Chris, it’s still you, but seems to sing compared other guitars.
So back in the late 80s and early 90s I worked on the outskirts of London. I used a gym near where I worked and talking to the owner we discovered a shared love of guitars. I saw the 1957 prototype V at Gruhn Guitars in the mid 90's. Back then it was $157,000.
Watching your pick deployment action.. I do exactly the same, except I use my middle finger.
Another sick Vid Chris, thanks🎸
That later demo on the bridge pickup sounded incredible. It's not a tone I would typically chase, super clean and dry(maybe a little reverb or room ambience). The notes were just so pristine, certainly not the kind of sound you can hide your mistakes behind. Idk, I always enjoy your playing immensely but that was something special.
Maybe it was both pickups. 8:00 ish...
I regret having to sell it anyway
Of coarse we all knew Chris would play it like a dream regardless
Buck this one played using fingers and pick makes you sound quirky, inspiring man. big hail from brazil.
That ‘58 did something to you. It was fun to watch you play a little differently.
That jam 7 minutes into the video stopped time for a moment...
Outro solo was pretty tasty too! 🔥🔥🔥
I've seen only one of these beauties in my life. It was at a Guitar Show in Nashville. That was a long time ago. 👍
Wunderful tone!!!
That water bottle with the syringe could be filled with a micro polishing liquid compound that also works as an excellent lapping fluid… something like that would be extremely useful for both polishing the lacquer on the fretboard and as a top notch lapping fluid.
oh yeah! worra sound!luv it.cheers
1:21 was half expecting him to segue into rock bottom.
I've always wondered what the Moderne [re]issues sound like. You'd be doing us a great service by demoing one, Chris!
nice intro just a joke but are you a rock star? your licks always make me feel good
The Moderne Looks fantastic. What about reissue of that model?
Playing the crap out of it like probably no one did when it was made!😅🤗
It all comes down to who is paying attention and knows its for sale. Deep pockets where are you?
Chris that was a very proper spanking you gave the V!
Great video and great playing. I will say though, it says a lot about a company if people really think their best year was well over half a century ago....
That neck pickup!
Wow 👏
⚓️ Thanks Chris 🌈
Chris, that opening solo has had a few outings, where can we find the original. It is criminal if you haven't put this on tape with CB
You are a Blowtorch player, my man ! Lol
Thanks for posting.
im normally not a corksniffer but that v just sounds better than most guitars and it didn't hurt the way you played that first solo. this one ill studdy a bit before i try it.
yep
Chris, you really enjoyed playing her didn't you?😊❤
The buyer will now need extra deep pockets as the guitar can be marketed as ‘as played by Chris Buck’!!
Holy fuck you are a good guitar player....I watch your videos more for that than the content
I wonder if it will go to a player or a collector? Nice intro, Mate.
Probably Bonamassa as he's both.
