It seems really easy to do experiment. I would like to ask two questions, how and when we should add vitamin E to our formulation,secondly if the final pH of my cream is very alkaline(12) so can that be adjusted or is my product totally wasted??? Plz guide,thank you

Thanks for sharing this video, I really learn a lot :) Will the whisk method also works for other types of emulsifier (e.g. E-wax NF) without separation in just few days? I've always wanted to create smaller sample of lotion and stick blender is not possible for a small batch size.
Hi, I always recommend NOT to rely on your equipment - the materials should be enough (in most cases) with just a whisk in 100-200g lab samples! Method is important but small lab samples should come together without needing advanced equipment (In most cases). If you are getting separation in small samples from whisk stirring, then the formula needs fixing. Great video. Is it important to hold phases for “20 mins” or just until oil phase is melted? Also, is there a difference in results if the water phase is pored into the oil phase vs oil phase into water like you’ve shown? Thank you!

There are various emulsifiers you can use, I would recommend you complete this workshop which has over 20 different emulsifiers from small suppliers you can replace it with! Can I use a different emulsifier: personalcarescience.com.au/Workshops/Emulsifierworkshop-3165/
Hi. Could you tell me what the dilution rate is for the sodium hydroxide please?

Hi, we get pH strips from various suppliers - look for ones that test pH from as low as 4 through to at least 9 depending on the products you plan to be making. It is also ideal if they provide pH in 0.5 increments, it helps you be more accurate - but it depends on the supplier. There are various suppliers from Laboratory suppliers around the world.

No - it’s a diluted form for pH adjustment only - it is not adding straight NaOH like in saponification

Hi Sya, you should get about 3 years from this product - if you change the materials used remember to check shelf life for a revised expiry date if needed.

I have a question. Is it necessary to add an antioxidant if formula contains oils or the preservative is enough for this purpose? sorry for my english
Antioxidants only protect against oxidation - so they are only necessary when you have ingredients that have a risk of oxidising e.g. plant oils or essential oils. Antioxidants usually act as a FOOD SOURCE for micro-organisms, so broad spectrum preservation is always necessary when your formula contains water. as the lotion is at this runny stage can we bottle it before it sets up? if we are using a pump bottle.
You can but just make sure it is at room temperature before bottling to avoid a condensation layer of free water forming on top. Happy formulating!

Hi Rocio, it won't give the same viscosity or stability at that input, so xanthan is a better gum to use for its stability enhancing benefits. If you use guar, you will need to use more to support the viscosity and stability, so with a couple of trials you will find the right amount to use. I hope this helps, Belinda

Is it possible to make lotion with combination of lecithin and tween 60?

Are you using caustic soda to lower the pH? is it safe to put on your face?
Sodium hydroxide as a diluted solution to adjust pH dissociates in the formula to the hydroxide ion to adjust pH only. It is NOT caustic soda when in solution to buffer the pH. Yes it is perfectly safe to put on your face. Most cosmetics are adjusted with pH in a similar way.
How can i add gum without glycerine
You can put it in the oil phase and add it that way.
Any substitute for olivem 1000
