I could not start with some frames from the best game ever: Chrono Trigger. Anyway, I totally agree with the list and happy you remembered less famous titles such as Shining Force 2 and Gunstar Heroes (I also love Guardian Heroes for Sega Saturn, still unbelievable game)
I still play super turbo daily. I just beat Megaman x1 and 100% everything, going to move on to mmx2 for the switch. I'd put contra3 over gunstar. And streets of rage is too high. Super metroid was amazing for it's time and good today. So many secret moves in the game.
As far as I'm concerned Chrono Trigger is as close to a perfect game as can be made, though Sifu is a modern game that I'd put in that running as well. Just need more time to pass to really know if it holds up like how Chrono Trigger does.
Whoa. I agreed with everything on the list right up to Streets of Rage in the top spot. But... I never actually played it! If it beat out Super Metroid, it has to be pretty freaking good.

Great selection of cult classics I could only agree with. Maybe I was only surprised to see Shining Force II in this top ten. It is a great and excellent game of course but I would have personnally replaced it by Final Fantasy VI or by Zombies ate My Neighbors in retro games top ten. Such choices are pretty arguable too though... However, that does not change anything to the fact that your proposed selection here is a top notch one. Proof of concept is, all these games were hacked over and ver multiple times to improve their original experience (if not event, in some attempts to propose "the definitive version of the game"). Well, all of them but Gunstar Heroes, maybe (improving anything to Gunstar Heroes is quite hard - not sure of what exactly could be improved with this one)...
Great Video! It’d be an IP nightmare to get all the titles in this video in one console, but WOW what a console this would be! I get my retro fix via the SNES Classic. It has 5 of these titles (SMWorld, Zelda:Link, SF2, MegamanX, SMetroid) and then some suitable substitutes for others. Contra3 for ChronoTrigger, Secret of Mana or MarioRPG for ShiningForce. Alas Ghosts&Gouls or DKCountry don’t hold up to StreetsOfRage2 and there’s no true puzzle game like the masterpiece that is Testris , but not a bad fair considering it has a few kart racers, 2 StarFox games, SPunchOut and SCastlevania4. I love these retro condensed consoles and this video list would be a lot of gamers dreams come true. 🔥😎🔥
I have a handheld emulator and even with its vast selection of games at my fingertips I mostly find my go to game being the OG Tetris for Gameboy ( although I do have multiple versions on NES,SNES, GBA, DS & n64 )
Funny, most of the games I played when they came other… The Sega-Games I never played, but most of the SNES-Games. Except Crono Trigger, of which I never heard back in the day. It‘s a good list of solid games. Can‘t argue with that.
@@gradsgames Well, always opportunity for a sequel! :) Bust out some Blaster Master and Little Nemo and have some fun! But seriously, Mighty Final Fight is really good for an NES game... and so is BattleToads vs Double-Dragon.
I was not expecting SOR2 in the top spot, but after thinking about it and the fact that this is a list of games that still hold up today....I can't say I disagree.
Lets be honest, since it was released Streets of Rage 2 was the solid gold standard for side scrolling beat em ups and was only ever dethroned by Streets of Rage 4!
If we are talking console releases only, I got to say Turtles in Time for me was more enjoyable, but still SoR2 was up there. If we include arcade releases as well, it wasn't even top ten, with things like Alien vs Predator, The Punisher, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, just to name a few, kicking its butt all day long
Your #1 is a good choice too. But actually, Street Of Rage Remake from Bomber Games is MUCH better than the three original SoR Games. It's simply a huge love letter to any fans of the series. Totally must play value !!!

@@Salsa_Shark a beautiful game
Great list!!
Thank you
Id argue yhat vanilla SF 2 is literally one of the best examples of a game that hasn't aged well. It's slow asf.
Feels like its underwater.
Wild that Shining Force 2 made the list of DKC 1 or 2
Final Fantasy VI. How could this amazing title not make the list?
It's at number 11
@@gradsgames blasphemy! It should be number one! 😀
@@davidmckenzie3608 😂
I could not start with some frames from the best game ever: Chrono Trigger.
Anyway, I totally agree with the list and happy you remembered less famous titles such as Shining Force 2 and Gunstar Heroes (I also love Guardian Heroes for Sega Saturn, still unbelievable game)
I still play super turbo daily. I just beat Megaman x1 and 100% everything, going to move on to mmx2 for the switch. I'd put contra3 over gunstar. And streets of rage is too high. Super metroid was amazing for it's time and good today. So many secret moves in the game.
I love the mix of consoles. A nice change of pace from console specific lists.
Thank you
You missed Secret Of Mana and Mystical Ninja.
@@budthechud9795 two wonderful games
Metal slug and outrun are still very enjoyable
Very much so.
Great list! I’d have to replace streets of rage 2 with turtles in time… but that just me.
@trav7424 good shout!
My top games you missed:
F-Zero
Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Pokemon red/blue/yellow
Sonic 3
Nes tetris
Megaman 2 and X2
Street fighter Alpha 2
Great games! Thanks for watching and commenting, it's really appreciated.
Good thing it was in there, because if Chrono Trigger wasn't on this list I was going to riot. Best RPG ever made, no contest.
It's such a wonderful game.
Final Fantasy VI (or III) is close on it’s heels but can’t beat the artstyle of Crono!
Chrono Trigger is the greatest game ever made.
Suikoden II is right up there with Chrono Trigger
As far as I'm concerned Chrono Trigger is as close to a perfect game as can be made, though Sifu is a modern game that I'd put in that running as well. Just need more time to pass to really know if it holds up like how Chrono Trigger does.
Wholeheartedly agree with all games on the list!
Thank you!
Whoa. I agreed with everything on the list right up to Streets of Rage in the top spot. But... I never actually played it! If it beat out Super Metroid, it has to be pretty freaking good.
It is freakin good, at least I think so anyway 😂

Of course that Super Mario World worth to play. But actually I must say the most interesting about this game is his incredible hacks community !!
There are some tremendous hacks.
I would have swapped Gunstar for Turtles in Time and my order might have been different because of taste, but a solid list nonetheless
Completely agree on all 10 choices mate. LTTP wouldve been my #1, Metroid #2, SOR #3
Thanks for watching pal.
If you havent tried it, i highly suggest Blades of Vengeance on sega genesis
All great games but ...
games that someone who have never played retro can play and enjoy are very tricky to pick
So i go with:
Link to the past
Super metroid
Shinobi 3
Yoshi island
Final fantasy 6
Streets of rage 2_3
Lost vikings
Comix zoon
Donkey Kong 3
Sonic 2
Contra 3 _ hardcorps
Great list 👌
FFVI and Zombies are great shouts. Maybe I should do another list? Thanks for watching.
🔥😎🔥
Thank you so much. I have the SNES Classic too, I modded it to include a lot more games that came on it.
Did you do the mod yourself? That would be a fantastic video to watch. 😉
@steelman774 I did, it's very easy.
Streets of Rage 2 reminds me of a Turtles game I used to play. You moved along in the same way fighting bad guys. Anyone know what game I mean?
Turtles in Time?
@@gradsgames Yes!! Thank you. A friend had it on the SNES. I remember you could throw badguys toward the screen. So badass! 😎
@rylter yeah that's right, brilliant game.
I have a handheld emulator and even with its vast selection of games at my fingertips I mostly find my go to game being the OG Tetris for Gameboy ( although I do have multiple versions on NES,SNES, GBA, DS & n64 )
It's timeless. Thanks for watching.
SOR2 no doubt.
You know it, thanks for watching.
Funny, most of the games I played when they came other… The Sega-Games I never played, but most of the SNES-Games. Except Crono Trigger, of which I never heard back in the day.
It‘s a good list of solid games. Can‘t argue with that.
Yes! A Chronotrigger remaster would be mouth watering.
It really would
For me: Switch out Gunstar Heroes for Toejam and Earl and the lineup (not the order) is perfect!
Thank you
Wow, no NES love?
Mighty Final Fight? Super Mario Bros. 3? River City Ransom? Power Blade? Megaman 2 or 3? Ducktails?
Yeah, I'm kinda regretting that
@@gradsgames Well, always opportunity for a sequel!
Not even then.
If we are talking console releases only, I got to say Turtles in Time for me was more enjoyable, but still SoR2 was up there. If we include arcade releases as well, it wasn't even top ten, with things like Alien vs Predator, The Punisher, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, just to name a few, kicking its butt all day long
Great feakin' list!!!
Great freakin' comment! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
How does Toe Jam and Earl not make the list, especially with that thumbnail background?
Shining Force is such an amazing series. I'm still waiting for a full Shining Force 3 discs 1-3 localisation, SEGA; GET ON IT!
Tmnt - turtles in time/hyperstone heist both still hold up well
They really do
Your #1 is a good choice too. But actually, Street Of Rage Remake from Bomber Games is MUCH better than the three original SoR Games. It's simply a huge love letter to any fans of the series. Totally must play value !!!
I've never played it. I will check it out.
