Happy new year everyone! Hope you all enjoyed my picks! Check out the other videos I mentioned below: My top games of all time: ua-cam.com/video/BSoKX_h2st0/v-deo.html Zelda Retrospective: ua-cam.com/video/7xFAbofQmDI/v-deo.html Umihara Kawase Retrospective: ua-cam.com/video/bvpmaS5EPKY/v-deo.html
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe was basically my childhood. Still holds up these days when I fire it up. Love your eclectic top lists, recent new viewer, have a sub!.
It's funny how nostalgia and people's experiences shape what they remember as the greatest games. There were some action adventure games like Zelda, S Metroid that I absolutely loved, but for me, this era was the golden age of RPGs. Games like the FF series, the Lufias, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and many more. Despite first growing up in the NES era, my most vivid and early childhood gaming memory was hanging out with the big kids and watching them use Rydia to summon Titan and wreck the enemies. I knew it as FF 2 in those days.
Some of my personal favs are Street fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Mario All Stars and Donkey Kong. I May be bias as I had all these as a kid but I loved everyone of them.
Great video Nick. SNES is my favourite system of all time too. So many amazing memories from ‘93 to ‘96. Marioworld, Zelda, Super Metroid, Super Punchout, ShadowRun, Cybernator, Mariokart, SF2 Turbo, Contra 3, MK2, ISS deluxe, NBA Jam the list goes on and on and on.
My sister and I got Mario All Stars one Christmas and we had never played Mario 2 or 3 before. You can imagine how much fun we had beating both together , so much fun.
Some of my favourites in no order. Super Bomberman 2, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Killer Insticnt, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Zelda A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger (played it for the first time last year), Super Mario All Stars, Yoshis Island, Turtles in Time, The Magical Quest staring Mickey Mouse, International Super Star Soccer Deluxe, NBA Jam Tournament edition
I recently replayed all the Donkey Kong Country games to 100%, and I agree that the first game has something about it that I prefer over the sequels. The music and atmosphere is superb, and it doesn't have quite as many frustrating "gotcha" moments as DKC2.
Although the second is much more difficult, and often in a very frustrating way, I still love it the most. In fact it’s my favorite game ever made. With that said though I do agree there are a lot of difficulty spikes and frustrating moments. The worst in the series though in this regard is the third, specifically the level where you can be struck by lightning.
So pumped to see someone else hold Illusion in such high regard! There is truly something special about this experience that captured me in a way no other game ever has. In my mind it represents the magic that was the SNES and it's a huge part of why I will always love to game.
Super Mario World and Link to the Past are probably my favorite snes games of all time but I also really enjoyed sim city, f zero and off road. Those 5 games I can really pick up and play anytime
Great list! Agree with a lot of your picks, but there are plenty I still need to check out for myself on here too. As always, enjoyed hearing about your personal experiences and memories with these games.
Awesome list Earthbound is my personal favorite but I need to dive into the SNES catalogue more, I grew up with mainly N64, Gamecube Also what's the song that plays at 12:50? It's very captivating :)
15:45 the DS remake is one of my favorites of all time as well. I met my best friend via that lil' game. Basically when I was a kid I heard the gormont race theme and found out it came from that game, I got excited and clicked the first cheap link I saw for it. *I accidentally sent my money to a scammer.* So I went and bought the game again off Ebay, thinking the scammer wouldnt send me it. Turns out the scammer made a bootleg copy of it, I could tell by the sticker. Around that time the 3DS had come out so I got it but I still had my DS lite. And so, I had two DS consoles, and two copies of a game with multiplayer. I went up to someone and asked if they wanted to play and we've been best friends ever since.
The SNES is my all time console, as well! Those were halcyon days in gaming history. The SNES and Sega went head to head and from that competition came so many fantastic franchises. Super Castlevania is my favorite SNES title. Superb graphics and a soundtrack that's equally outstanding. Thanks for doing this video!
Nice t-shirt :D Plok feels like an underrated game. It's always been one of the cheapest games for SNES to buy here in Sweden. And I need to play Chrono Trigger someday. I just need to find an authentic copy for a "decent price" first haha!
Love the videos where people show their top 15, it was a really good selection! Kirby and Metroid bring me so many good memories :) currently I’m printing covers and looking for Universal Game Cases for my snes games :)
Thank you very much for introducing me into a lot of cool games, expecially homebrew retro games! I found out about them a week ago and I am enjoying them a lot since then. You've earned a loyal subscriber definetly. Greetings from Germany, keep up the great work
What a fantastic list! There are the obvious ones, of course, like Crono Trigger, which is one of my 3 most replayed games of all time (FFVII and the Mass Effect series being the other 2, yes, I count all 3 original games as one game), there are also games I've never even heard of and that has me so excited. I still play Super Nintendo all the time, it is my favorite system of all time, so I am very excited to go and find some SNES games that I've never even heard of. Something fresh. The SNES really is a gift that keeps on giving. I'm so excited. Thank you.
Love this list! The SNES is easily one of my favorite consoles, and Link to the Past is such a nostalgic game for me as it was my first Zelda game (and on do the first games I ever beat)! This was a great reminder of several SNES games that I’ve been meaning to play, including Lufia 👀 Appreciate your addition of Mario Paint! LoL Great video as always, Nick!
I love how you factor in your personal nostalgia to your lists. It's great to see different opinions about favorite games. Just discovered your channel and I'm loving it!
A fine personal list, I loved hearing your history with the games! For my own top 15 I´d pick Gokujou Parodius since it´s my favourite in the series. Some others I´d swap in are Final Fantasy III (my first ever RPG!), Super Probotector, Super Street Fighter II (still a great way to play the title), maybe Pocky & Rocky or Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. SNES has such a rich library… PLOK is a game I´ve had a different experience with. When I gave it a go some weeks ago, found it mostly annoying. I´m no friend of the logs that fall from the sky without a warning, overall thought it was hard planning my route to safety. I got game over at the first boss, but since you recommend the game maybe I should try again!
My Top 3 at #3 Donkey Kong Country! The graphics blew me away. #2 College Slam, so much you can do to make the game play even better than NBA JAM. #1 Super Castlevania, but in all honesty every game on the SNES with the word SUPER on it was AWESOME!!! If I saw SUPER on a game box I got it. I honestly believe years later that is why they put SUPER on Super Monkey Ball. It was kind of a throw back game & was telling you...this is going to be good! I didn't even own a Game Cube & I bought Super Monkey Ball. Once again thanks for the Retro Break!
I would have had to put Contra III: The Alien Wars, Legend of the Mystical Ninja , and The Lost Vikings on my list 😄. There were so many great games for the SNES, that picking 15 would be challenging no matter who you are!
UA-cam recommended your video, so I checked it out. Plok looked awesome, that would’ve been a fun game to play back in the day. Was it available in US? Quite a few games on your list I never heard of. They look pretty cool though. One of my favorite Super Nintendo games is Biker Mice from Mars.
Gonna give this a huge thumbs up because you said it was your personal list and didn't talk as if these were locked in greatest games of all time and "everybody knows it". I can't stand those videos. Greatly appreciate the video. Huge thumbs up....and also thanx for showing Mario Paint love. It somehow gets ignored.
Is it strange to be obsessed by low tier studio games? I've never had the occasion to play Illusion of Time and Terranigma when I was young and maybe it's too late to catch the running train in 2023, but I did played Actraiser and Soul Blazer and I have to confess there's something obsessing about those games. Decades later I'm still haunted by soundtracks and sound effects (reused from a game to another). I like you picking underrated games in your tops!
Awesome list with some easy top tier SNES goodness. But that's just the thing, that list is to big to just contain to a top 10, haha. It's the personal connections and stories that make it most interesting though, thanks for sharing!
I remember when I was 6, videogames is not a big thing in my country in that time. 8bit games became popular here in the late 90s and early 2000s because its cheap. In 1999, I found out about SNES, I play Super Mario All stars for the first time at my cousin's friends house (he is in his 20s that time) just couple of weeks after I play SMB1 for the first time, the graphics blown my mind. SNES is such a beast.
Illusion of Gaia (of Time in Europe) is such a solid game. I recently bought a CIB japanese version (the box art is exquisite) and finished the game in about 3 days for the first run and then 2 days to complete it by collecting the 50 red jewels for the secret boss fight.
Some of my favorites that are not mentioned here are star ocean, goemon 1 2 and 3, day of the idea (very similar to earthbound but weirder) maka maka (legendary kuso game) dragonball hyper dimension, gundam wing endless duel, dragon quest 3, and a great cyperpunk distopian game Shadowrun. God the snes is just great.
Some great choices. I love Act Raiser, but find the end boss, where you have to beat them all in a row is almost impossible?! I lovde getting Mario All Stars with my SNES on Xmas, like you say there is so much content its amazing! Donkey Kong blew me away as a kid. I find it strange that for such an amazing game no one really bought teh sequels, including me, as a kid?? You know what... Ive never play Ilussion of Time... so thanks for the heads up! I will have to give it a go!
A bit surprised SMRPG and Yoshi's Island didn't make your list. As for Super Metroid, you should look into all the great romhacks out there for it. Literally hundreds of extra hours of replay value from the hacks, and you'll enjoy every second of it. Metroidconstruction is a great site to visit.
I can't believe you can enjoy megaman x. I bought it and I can't even beat 2 levels in it. It's relentless in its difficulty for me. Maybe it's timing of powering up or timing of jumps or learning boss patterns. But for some reason I'm scared to play it again. You chose some unusual choices. My top 15 would have doremi fantasy in it. I have a broken English patched copy but going to get the jp version in August. Firemen is also another fantastic game that goes under the radar. Too many to list, I have all 3 parodius super famicom games. Pity we don't live down the street from each other. Thanks for the video. A Bedfordian.
I'm really hoping someone can help me find a particular game. The game was on snes, basically all I can remember was you go down a straight lane as a spaceship like vehicle and your goal is to dodge and move out of the way of all the obstacles coming st you. I cannot remember clearly if you shoot or not. I also remember that the first level had alot of changing colours on the outsides of the lane. The second level was lava. If anyone knows this I would be so grateful because I have been looking for it, for ages and can't find anything about it.
Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, NBA Jam TE, Tetris Attack, Tetris and Dr. Mario, Kirby Avalanche, Killer Instinct, Super Batter Up, Super Bomberman 2, Wario’s Woods, John Madden 93, DK Country, SMW, Turtles in Time
The SNES is probably the best console ever; so many great and timeless games and a fantastic controller. My Ranking: 1. Super Metroid 2. Street Figther 2 Turbo 3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 4. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 5. Populous 2 6. F-Zero 7. Rock'n'Roll Racing 8. Super Mario World 9. Earthworm Jim 10. Turtles in Time 11. Star Fox 12. Sim City 13. Super Turrican 2 14. Super Aleste 15. Donkey Kong Country
My top (based on the ones I played growing up): 1. Yoshi's Island 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Jurassic Park (SNES) 4. Super Mario World 5. Final Fantasy VI (III) 6. Megaman X 7. Super Mario Allstars 8. TMNT Turtles in Time 9. TMNT Tournament Fighters 10. Primal Rage 11. Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues 12. The Lion King 13. Robocop vs The Terminator 14. Aladdin 15. T2 arcade port
Interesting. I didn't have a snes back in the day. Me and all my mates were MD boys. Collecting for it now is so challenging as I have zero nostalgia. So either buying on the strength reviews 30yrs later or simply because I've heard people like a game doesn't really work. I did pick up the SNES Mini which I think has an excellent selection of some quite expensive and collectable titles. Curre tly playing through A Link to The Past and loving it.
Happy new year everyone! Hope you all enjoyed my picks! Check out the other videos I mentioned below:

Please stop saying “sness”. It’s pronounced S. N. E. S.
It’s not a word, it’s initials, like GBA.
I'm about to watch. If you get even one game placed wrong, I will delete the channel.
Lufia also in gba
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe was basically my childhood. Still holds up these days when I fire it up. Love your eclectic top lists, recent new viewer, have a sub!.
I played and finished Chrono Trigger a couple of months ago. I still get some of the music in my head from time to time.
I need to finish it damm
I finished it a few months ago but I don’t even remember the intro soundtrack
My man has mentioned Plok, instant thumbs up.
High five for the PLOK love!

You won't here much argument over those good choices
Good choices, but I always felt sf2 is notoriously difficult and overrated.
@@jg2722 at least it had difficulty options. I feel many fighting games are pretty difficult as someone who's terrible at them.
@@jg2722 Not that difficult. SF2 turbo is by far my fav fighting game.
@@pow9606 turbo is fine but I mean the original
Great video Nick. SNES is my favourite system of all time too. So many amazing memories from ‘93 to ‘96. Marioworld, Zelda, Super Metroid, Super Punchout, ShadowRun, Cybernator, Mariokart, SF2 Turbo, Contra 3, MK2, ISS deluxe, NBA Jam the list goes on and on and on.

Dk2 is better
DK 1 is superior!
I agree !
1 & 2 ARE AMAZING
3 Is Worth A Play Through But Not ON THE SAME LEVEL
So pumped to see someone else hold Illusion in such high regard! There is truly something special about this experience that captured me in a way no other game ever has. In my mind it represents the magic that was the SNES and it's a huge part of why I will always love to game.

Awesome man. Illusion of Gaia is my favorite game of all time, as well. Great memories and it still holds up imo
Super Mario World and Link to the Past are probably my favorite snes games of all time but I also really enjoyed sim city, f zero and off road. Those 5 games I can really pick up and play anytime

Super Castlevania is my favorite SNES title. Superb graphics and a soundtrack that's equally outstanding. Thanks for doing this video!
Hadn’t heard of Terranigma or Illusion of Time, but I just added them to my Favorites list on my RG353M handheld system. Playing Terranigma right now!
The Lufia and Quintet games are all on my backlog for this system! Great list 😊
Nice one Is Nick some great games in there. I have plenty of fond memories myself. Donkey Kong country I think would be my favourite
Is Illusion of Time the PAL title/version of Illusion of Gaia?!?
I can only imagine how long it took to arrange those games at the back, great video.
Nice t-shirt :D Plok feels like an underrated game. It's always been one of the cheapest games for SNES to buy here in Sweden.

Yeah PLOK super cheap here too, think people pass it up because of that, but it’s a great game!
Buster busts loose is another one. That would make my top 15
Great list! Terra ohms is a great game, played it last year but I couldn’t finish it without a guide… music is amazing too
Just picked up a snes at Xmas so great to have a list of great games to pick up. Thanks a lot!
Love the videos where people show their top 15, it was a really good selection! Kirby and Metroid bring me so many good memories :) currently I’m printing covers and looking for Universal Game Cases for my snes games :)
Wait, so you just buy a universal SNES game case and upload the game to it and print the cover? I need to do that if that’s what you mean.
The SNES is still the my favorite console, though the Switch is getting really close. Your videos started showing up on my feed and I like your vibe!
Thank you very much for introducing me into a lot of cool games, expecially homebrew retro games! I found out about them a week ago and I am enjoying them a lot since then. You've earned a loyal subscriber definetly. Greetings from Germany, keep up the great work

I have a lot of great memories playing Kirby's Dreamcourse with my brother growing up.
super Metroid is a great game with alot of replay value. Love that game

reminds me one of my all time best buys was terranigma £1 boxed as new from a carboot sale about 20 years ago.
Wow that’s an insane find!!
4:14 hahaha... "I've been diddled again"
Hahaha
Solid list! I need to play too many of these haha
I would have had to put Contra III: The Alien Wars, Legend of the Mystical Ninja , and The Lost Vikings on my list 😄. There were so many great games for the SNES, that picking 15 would be challenging no matter who you are!
This is the first time I’ve seen any of your videos and it was fantastic. New subscriber and keep up the great work
Also I realize it would never make a normal top 10 type list, but Zombies Ate My Neighbors is the game I remember most from my childhood.
Terranigma and Illusion of Time are such British shouts, those games would circulate the area I lived in through borrows alot.
Another great thing about Kirby's Fun Pak is that you can play two player co-op
Gonna give this a huge thumbs up because you said it was your personal list and didn't talk as if these were locked in greatest games of all time and "everybody knows it". I can't stand those videos. Greatly appreciate the video. Huge thumbs up....and also thanx for showing Mario Paint love. It somehow gets ignored.
Shoutout for Plok ! one of the best underrated platformers !
I used to own Super Mario World. Unfortunately it was stolen from me years ago. I still miss that game 😢
I have been playing Umihara Kawase the whole week, what a game! Really good recommendation.
It’s an awesome game! Have you seen my retrospective on the series too? I loved making that
@@RetroBreak Oh nice! I didn´t know you were such a fan, I have just started watching your retrospective, another hidden gem :)
Yes yes yes, please stream Terranigma, that would be epic.
P.s. another awesome video, always eagerly awaiting the next one.
My personal favorite games that I played over and over for hours at a time. Super Conflict, Top Gear 2, U N Squadron, Alien 3
Spotted mystic quest and illusion of time behind you in the video. They would both definitely make my top 15.
Should have waited until the end of the video before commenting. Didn't expect illusion of time to take the top spot. Great choice!
The SNES and N64 were my entire childhood. My personal favorites were Super Mario World, Diddy’s Kong Quest, and Yoshi’s Island.
Do you have Wondrous Magic? Is it any good? Just purchased it but there is hardly anything on it on the internet it seems

Interesting list; I haven't heard of some of these! Wild to not see a single Final Fantasy game on there!
I played them on the GBA, we never got the main final fantasy games here in the UK until 7! :(
@@RetroBreak Ahhhh, of course. I imagine some of these games didn't make it, or didn't get advertised much, in the US.
Mario all stars 👌 another great video, Nick
If you have three friends and a multi-tap, Super Bomberman 1&2 are amazing games.
Illusion of Gaia (of Time in Europe) is such a solid game.
I recently bought a CIB japanese version (the box art is exquisite) and finished the game in about 3 days for the first run and then 2 days to complete it by collecting the 50 red jewels for the secret boss fight.
Pretty out there list, but it is nice to see a different compilation. That #1 all time usually sits at # 10 solely on RPG lists. Nice choice.
Oh wow, dude. You are the first person I have ever heard mention Actraiser. That is my favorite SNES game.
Cool to see Lufia getting love :)
The Fly swating as a kid was great
Boom! Actraiser! An absolute gem for me!
Yes! Illusion of Gaia/Time is an awesome game that deserves more appreciation.
I loved shadowrun. Although I recently discovered it was on the megadrive too and that version is very differnet and apparently even better!
Haha great choice. I love Illusion of Gaia/ Time. It does have a great feel to it
Best list ever illusion of time is number one always
I was never into Zelda,. But I will give it a try.
I have a raspberry pi and I have literally every title imaginable, so I would like some insight as to what to start playing

I’ve never actually been able to finish the final bosses! That fight is insane!! One day!
You just need to use the magical stardust spell. It will take out most of the bosses very quickly.
I feel the same about The Legend of Dragoon. Something remarkable is sown into that game...
You can add to your party a Ninetails kitsune in Lufia 2? I'm sold!
Terranigma is great . Nice to see it getting talked about best RPG on the system in my opinion

Cool list. Thought you’d have earthbound and Mario rpg. 😂. I’m not a jrpg fan but some of the games on the list are my favorites
My fav too. Thanks for sharing
I completed Illusion of Time back in 2020 when COVId had everyone in lockdown. I was playing it in between Microsoft Teams meetings at home. 😂
Great list!
illusion of Gaia is tied with Chrono Trigger for my favorite SNES game of all time
Chronotrigger and Terranigma are sublime. I am missing Secret of Mana and most of all Shadowrun (my personal favourite apart from Link to the Past)
I appreciate a lot of the obscure picks. Where was Super Punchout though !?
Great video
Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, NBA Jam TE, Tetris Attack, Tetris and Dr. Mario, Kirby Avalanche, Killer Instinct, Super Batter Up, Super Bomberman 2, Wario’s Woods, John Madden 93, DK Country, SMW, Turtles in Time

1. Super Metroid
2. Street Figther 2 Turbo
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
4. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

The one of two games that gave birth the "metroidvania" name to the genre is one of the best examples? No, it's THE example 😅
I mean. You can’t downplay the importance of sotn like that but being the first definitely gives it some cred.

How to u grab the sword on Zelda it’s a boss game but it’s difficult
Have you played cybernator?.
Check my snes hidden gems video :)
