Before even watching, I will say, yes! It is worth it! I paid over $700 for my gen1 e-revo and never regretted it until this came out! The gen2 is $550 at most retailers and solves many of the issues the first one had. -I've blown up countless rear ring and pinions, gen2 comes with larger, stronger gears. -I added larger tires from proline, gen2 comes with larger tires. -I destroyed the plastic axles and traxxas crappy steel axles, ended up with mip axles, gen2 comes with steel axles that are probably stronger than the steel offered for gen1. -I added a center differential, gen2 comes with a center diff. -I kept melting spur gears due to over heating the slipper, so I tightened it so much that it wouldn't slip, gen2 comes with a cush drive. I was contemplating replacing all my gen1 parts with gen2 parts, but by the time I do all that, I can buy a complete gen2!
@@chasebaxter5846 Edit: I just realized I said pretty much all of this in my original post. Gen 1 was pretty solid out of the box, but one of the first modifications I did was larger wheels and tires. If I remember correctly, I went from stock 5.5" tires to 6.5" tall which is like going from 31's to 36's on a full size truck. Soon after, things started breaking regularly, starting with the plastic axles, then the traxxas steel axles. I ended up with MIP axles, and haven't had any problems with those. I also went through countless rear ring and pinion gears. I do think traxxas's casting for those ring and pinions is lacking, but the set I have now has lasted a long time, so I must've found a straight set. I also melted a couple ring gears because the slipper clutch overheated. I tightened the slipper to not slip which contributed to driveline failures as well. So of all the issues I had with parts failures, the Gen 2 has addressed. It comes with larger wheels and tires, steel axles, larger diff's and no slipper clutch. It's upgraded every part I had problems with, and is almost $200 less than I paid for my gen1 originally. I also killed a couple ring gears due to improper gear mesh due to the motor screw loosening. The new motor plate is thicker and has predrilled holes for proper gear mesh with different ratios.
Should I throw my 1000 upgrade revo version one I trash after reading this. Mine has been in storage for over 2 years because of mainly melting gear spurs , sometimes in one run before having a run, the car is plagued . I retired it this time because the spring cup broke on rear and i said this hobby is piss thanks to traxxas
@@Garrysullivanjones I don't think the gen 1's are trash, I just think it was a little shitty for the gen 1's to cost over $700 US, and the gen 2's to be so much better at only $550. The melting spur gear is due to heat from the slipper clutch. I tightened my slipper spring so tight, that it doesn't slip anymore, to solve that problem. However, doing that, contributes to harshness in the driveline, so you may start breaking other parts. Specifically for that issue, I have looked at the parts diagram for the gen 2 cush drive. I haven't done it myself, but I'm pretty positive one could install a gen 2 cush drive on a gen 1 to eliminate the slipper clutch.
Only complaint I have is the graphics on the new body. It just looks too flashy for my taste. Personally liked the older bodies better. Cool thing is, you can run pretty much any other Revo body by switching out the body posts to the old ones. The X-Maxx style latching system was a great improvement non the less. Great video!
Best comparison of these two trucks out there. I sold my revo 1.0 a long while back and have driving my Arrma Nero since.. but I took the revo 2.0 plunge last night.. it arrives tomorrow.
I’m a first time viewer and really enjoyed the program content and the perspective you shared as an owner of both generations. Breaking rc don't forget the old one came out in 2006 and it's competition was their own emaxx and some sort of savage. They didn't have to have something as built as the new one.
mike s no way, all of my traxxas cars always break and it’s not really my fault. I don’t break structural parts I always break esc’s, motors, diff gears, etc.
Good video, just got the 2.0 and broke the back tower where the body clips in. I fixed it with jb weld and zip ties. The E revo deserves pro level bmx dirt jumps or bigger skate parks--this is where this thing shines. Love my E revo.
Converting my v1 to a v2 made me really enjoy the ERBE again. I ran my v1 on 4S only and had to replace the sliders 2-3 times a year due to stretching/wear/breakage of the yokes. Never even tried 6S in it. After getting a v2 roller and transferring my old motor/esc/single servo and a few other misc things, I've only run 6S on it and it's a beast of a truck. Kind of bummed I couldn't transfer my RPM arms/carriers (true track on the rear), but the stock arms/carriers are holding up surprisingly well. With the v1, I would bust the carriers or arms within a pack of run time. Unfortunately, on the 3rd bash, my mxl-6s esc died. Lasted 3 years on 4S in the v1. I replaced it with an old HPI F360C (MMv1) which got me by for a while. It was pretty chattery and would lurch on me sporadically. The old motor really howled on 6S. Not sure if it was the bearings or something else (never had it apart in 3 years), but I replaced it with an arrma blx 2050kv and increased my pinion from 16 to 18 to make up the difference in kv. I just finished installing a max6 esc in it. Will see how that does. A bit overkill, but should let me gear a bit taller yet without overheating. The MMv1 did ok and didn't run overly hot, just felt very unrefined and wasn't waterproof. I conformal coated it, but will just keep it as a spare.
I have the E Revo brushed edition I put a 775 motor in it I’m pretty happy with it but I wondered what the difference between the old and new brushless thank you
Haha..... keep telling yourself that. Your going to have a taco for a chassis after launching 40 feet in the air. Oh sorry, my bad...... forgot, this is a Traxxas, you guy's dont blast, you just bash....
Mad Man Slice First of all who is the one going out of buisness because they cant come up with one of there own ideas to save there lifes.... Arrma. You Would want more flex in a chassis so you dont have it break on half, why dont you get of your keyboard and. go outside and TRY to jump ANY rc 40 foot without breaking, it will break nomadder the brand. Traxxas works there ass of to create BEASTS, alot of engineering goes into a traxxas vehicle, Unlike arrma where EVRY vehicle they make is copy and paste!!!
OverkillRC than suspensión on the revo is old, it actually came from monster trucks and also vintage tamiya. Traxxas just brought it back to life on the revo and Arrma made the Nero base on it but it’s not even the same dimensions, But traxxas patented their parts and that’s where the problems started
I had the 3.3 as well. I only have the chassis & a set of tires now. It stayed in the parts bin for the entire 7 yrs I had the E-revo, but that's gone too. Maybe one day I'll use it with the parts from this one to make an awesome E-hybrid.
I have thought about building it back up before a few times, definitely something I would like to do some time. It's actually the original revo too now that I just looked at the chassis
Traxxas has my money as soon as they make one. Love my Summit and I'll never sell it but a brushless Summit 2.0 would be awesome. I think it's long overdue.
@@Garrysullivanjones I agree 100%, my 1st gen E-Revo is all decked out and it’s been my #1 go to backyard/track basher, my buddy had the 2.0 and it instantly became a money pit cause it kept breaking
Great video. I might pic one up for my channel. The rubber plug on the top of the receiver box is for ease of access to push the bind button, if needed.
I had the rod end problem with my 1st gen erevo after about 3 years, i ended up super glueing the new ends onto the rods before putting them back onto the truck but i made sure to realign the ends before everything dried, but after jumping it a ton of times and letting my friends beat the living hell out of it i havent had a rod end pop off yet, also i put tiny zip ties around the rod end to help prevent the rod end from splitting down the side
The rubber piece on the receiver box is so you can bind your radio without having to take apart the receiver box! Pop out the rubber piece and you can use a screw driver to hold down the bind button on the receiver.
Axiomatic 113 Thanks for letting me know! I was thinking that it might be for that, but I wasn’t quite sure and never took the piece off to see if the button was underneath. 👍🏼 I appreciate it!
the new e revo chassis has 2 bumps at where the diffs are for clearance for the much larger diffs. that is one of the main reasons why you cannot put the new diffs and bulk heads on the old chassis. the rear a arms on the new ones look like beefier extended wheel base arms.
The rubber tab on the receiver box is a carry over from many years ago with AM/FM and having crystals to change radio frequencies to not accidentally drive your friends truck into a wall 🤣. The have been using this radio box since the original tmaxx .15 I believe. I know my first bandit and stampede didn't have boxes for the receiver and I added them when the tmaxx came out.
Overkill Rc I but the summit first and then a month later they had this I didn’t want it until I took the top off and then they let me test drive it so I bought the display
I have a set of the 3.3 tires. They are nearly the same size as the EXT's. Same tread thickness & they feel very similar as well. They haven't been run for 2 yrs now but they still feel up to it
I've had these tires for over a decade now & they have about 8 years worth of use between my E, 3.3, & Summit. They have even seen 6S action on the E-revo when I blew the shock tires. I can't think of another stock tire I've had as much history with as these. Maybe that's why I still have them.
I just gave them a quick run on my Kraton on 6S. A few quick dustings to see if they would hold up then nothing but full speed passes down the block. They are amazing. They balloon a little, but I have full control. I can't believe I had these sitting in the closet for 2 years.
First side by side I have seen. Props to you brother. I’d say they are worth buying especially since they finally lowered their prices and are now more competitive with other companies. I’m not a traxxas guy by any means but so far I like the new revo
Anthony Arnold I completely agree. This truck seems to be drawing some people back to Traxxas which is cool to see. It’s a great truck for the price. Thank you, I hope you enjoyed the video! 😀
I'm new to the rc hobby grade car I just got my first truck the rustler 1.10 model I wanted a revo 1.10 couldn't find it have traxxas stop selling them they only had the small one great video still years later
Nice video man. Could you please test out the parts compatibility more (meaning removing the parts like A-arms, shafts, etc.) from 1.0 chassis and putting it to 2.0 chassis? I know it would take some time, but you would be the first person to do that and that's worth something, at least some UA-cam views.
I can't believe this - I was going through diffs but I think that was down to Trench tires, metal axles, and driving a lot in the wet. And...yeah, my poor throttle control.
Dean cripps ya idk i dont take throttle lightly but dont drive in wet areas i have stock axles but the most ive broken was a suspension link, shocks, and axle carriers no diffs or axles though
Jojo Aguilar yeah I never had any issues with my diffs either untill I put threnchers on it , and now I just don't use them and I have a slipper elimnator and still everything is working great when I plan on using the trenchers or jumping it hardcore I throw the slipper setup back in I'm thinking of waiting a awhile and grabbing a erevo 2.0 roller on eBay and moving over my electronics
Great comparison, still tossing up on whether E-Revo 2.0 is any better than fully ungraded Rustler 4x4 VXL. I think i am just looking for an excuse to have both!
I have a revo 1.0 had it for a long time broke several driveshafts can’t even count them anymore haha, do you know of a parts list that are interchangeable between the 2 I can’t seem to find any info recently lost a rear diff wondering if 2.0 will fit it
If you buy the e revo 2.0 tires for the first e revo, would the size difference affect the steering ? Like would it scratch the body or can you run the new talons on the old e revo?
I recently bought the new e-revo. The dogbones notch out the drive cups after a good few runs. but I think this is a problem with many big power rc trucks.
I've been out of the rc game for @ 5 years. Decided to take a look online and see what's up. And this new Erevo 2.0 has my full attention. But all the online dealers Ive seen say that it's pre-order only. Not gonna be available until next month.
The new E-Revo is an amazing truck without a doubt. It's a tough vehicle to get though. There was a small shipment sent to hobby stores but they sold out very fast. It's a bummer to see that they've pushed the date to next month. It's definitely worth the wait though, you'd love it!
I love my E Revo 2.0.. I have the mini and love it and have driven the 1.0 a few times. Doesn’t even compare, the 2.0 has me wanting to sell all my Rustlers, Slash’s and whatever else it’s that amazing
JOE CAM I can see why you’d like the old one better. Traxxas did a great job with it. There are more parts/upgrades available too for it, that’s completely understanding. 🤝
Overkill RC..ok I got you but I have built it on a v1 chassis.. only need v1 transmission and center drive shafts but I can’t find v1 tranny on eBay or anywhere so do think I should just mod the 2.0 tranny to fit..what would you recommend???..help please!
Watch a few videos on the new truck but no one mentions the Tx is it the same or has it been upgraded can you still use your phone does it now have a lighting connector for newer phones?
I'd say the rods shouldn't be mixed metal and plastic, either full metal or full plastic would make it more durable. I chose to go back to stock ones on my 1/16 summit after a lot of failures with the aluminium ones. But for these i guess aluminium rod ends would work but then you got 0 flex..😵😄 awesome video, very interesting to watch👍✌ you got yourself a new subscriber😊
I found a used Traxxas e revo first Gen for 450euros ( I live international so that's pretty high price but for where I live is pretty good price) but I also want the new jato that's 590euros brand new should I buy the jato or the revo?
I can’t decide between a brand new 5608 brushless or a used 2.0. The brand new 5608 is gonna be $500 and the used 2.0 is the same price. What do you think I should get?

I'm new to the rc hobby grade car I just got my first truck the rustler 1.10 model I wanted a revo 1.10 couldn't find it have traxxas stop selling them they only had the small one great video still years later
Nice video man. Could you please test out the parts compatibility more (meaning removing the parts like A-arms, shafts, etc.) from 1.0 chassis and putting it to 2.0 chassis? I know it would take some time, but you would be the first person to do that and that's worth something, at least some UA-cam views.
I have never broken a axle or diff in ny V1 and have been on a stronger 6s system for 2 years
Nice! It's all about throttle control. :)
Paul cherry yup ill wait awhile and wait for part support and then get one but my v1 is totally fine so idk yet
Great video thanks. I just bought the 2.0 today. Can't wait for it to get here.
That's awesome! Have fun with it, the E-Revo 2.0 is an excellent vehicle. :)
Damn the 1st gen E-revo was my childhood dream unfortunately I can't buy it anymore 😔
Today run my E-Revo 2.0 first Time in Flushing Meadows Queens, come to edit the video and upload
Nice video. I just bought a used gen1 brushless edition with tsm/tqi . Has a few aluminum upgrades and runs very nice. Thanks for the comparison.
Does your revo have all issues fixed that were mentioned ? My main problem is slipper clutch eats spurs on regular . Bloody annoying stock traxxas
Thank You very much for such a good comparison.
Great comparison, still tossing up on whether E-Revo 2.0 is any better than fully ungraded Rustler 4x4 VXL. I think i am just looking for an excuse to have both!
I think old e revo is the same as the new but they make bigger wheels on 2.0 and better spedd an the servo better.
I have a revo 1.0 had it for a long time broke several driveshafts can’t even count them anymore haha, do you know of a parts list that are interchangeable between the 2 I can’t seem to find any info recently lost a rear diff wondering if 2.0 will fit it
Thanks for putting the video together! Loved it!
The shock ends and shock caps are beefed up as well. If you hold them side by side you will see around the ball, the plastic is thicker on both.
Awesome video! nice shots!
Both look awesome!
Thank you sir!
Nice thorough comparison! Great video!👍👍
rubber plug to hit the link button without removing cover..
Gonna be my next car, i really like the mini e revo i already have
I've been out of the rc game for @ 5 years.
I completely agree, Traxxas did an excellent job with the E-Revo 2.0 ;) Thanks for watching!
Overkill Rc I’m selling all my other cars I decided. It’s that amazing. But thank you for providing helpful info for us.
Im like super late but the hard rounded plastic on top of the E Revo 2.0 is also for the self-righting ;)
Great review. How do you compare the 2.0 VS. the new Maxx?
That rubber cap on the transmitter box is for easy binding when necessary. 😉😉🇳🇱
After 3 years of use of e-revo 1.0, have you had any problem of roominess of any kind? Maybe at the direction or other sites? thanks, great video!
to be truthful i like the older one better. just my opinion
JOE CAM I can see why you’d like the old one better. Traxxas did a great job with it. There are more parts/upgrades available too for it, that’s completely understanding. 🤝
yes sir
Imo, it just looks more badass and sleek. Idk, its just kinda the og erevo
Same here I love my old girl.
I’m fine with my old revo 🙂🙃
@@smperkins410 that's not true, not everyone prefers new cars like I hate teslas and that also applies to rcs
SPerkins no not true for a lot of people
SPerkins that’s just not true like at all.
Nice job bro!
Thanks!
Ricky Revo RC I agree Ricky I gotta get me the new e Revo and the mini e Revo lol
Rebuilding my v1 erevo...I know this video is old but will the 2.0 Revo bulkheads and diffs fit the v1...I heard they would.
I do not believe so, the diffs are too tall. The 2.0 chassis has a small bump out built in that allows the larger diff to fit.
Overkill RC..ok I got you but I have built it on a v1 chassis.. only need v1 transmission and center drive shafts but I can’t find v1 tranny on eBay or anywhere so do think I should just mod the 2.0 tranny to fit..what would you recommend???..help please!
I've invested too much money in my old erevo. can't get the new one. you are right about the diff though. you have to ship shim it
Watch a few videos on the new truck but no one mentions the Tx is it the same or has it been upgraded can you still use your phone does it now have a lighting connector for newer phones?
Big Willie FPV It still has the exact same 2.4GHz radio. The Bluetooth module comes separately, but it is an option at least.
Awesome video, very helpful
I will want the E-Revo 2.0
I'd say the rods shouldn't be mixed metal and plastic, either full metal or full plastic would make it more durable. I chose to go back to stock ones on my 1/16 summit after a lot of failures with the aluminium ones. But for these i guess aluminium rod ends would work but then you got 0 flex..😵😄 awesome video, very interesting to watch👍✌ you got yourself a new subscriber😊
Especially made out of RPM plastic, those would be interesting for sure. Thank you for your subscription, I appreciate it!
Great comparison.👍
Great comparison video. Loads of detail, nice :-)
Can you PLEASE check if those driveshafts will fit old erevo. This review is amazing btw :)
Are parts from 2.0 compatible with the old version?
Good vid dude👌🏼
Thank you!
Is there a kit to upgrade old to new or just have to buy a new model?
I found a used Traxxas e revo first Gen for 450euros ( I live international so that's pretty high price but for where I live is pretty good price) but I also want the new jato that's 590euros brand new should I buy the jato or the revo?
Nice.....if I didn't have the 5608 brushless I would go to the 2.0
I can’t decide between a brand new 5608 brushless or a used 2.0. The brand new 5608 is gonna be $500 and the used 2.0 is the same price. What do you think I should get?
Great info! Gonna get one.
Thanks. Useful info
I want an e revo but I don’t know if I should save for a wile and get the 2.0 or get the mini vxl and also there is the new rustler vxl 4*4
Are the wing mounts the same,
the rubber piece makes it easier to hit the link button. I link all my traxxas to one remote so i didnt have to buy 4 bluetooth modules
i wander if people with old revo can put the new Maxx diffs in theres
Jeg kan jeg bruge en "Traxxas 8686 Differential F/R Pro-Built E-Revo 2.0" på den gamle E-Revo?
I have the Revo 2.0 I really like it they should make one the size of the xmaxx now that would be an awesome trk and call it the XRevo
Great review
Yugo Boss Thank you!
