One year in the late 70's I had the opportunity to choose which music to use for election night coverage as bump music. So in love with the show and the music I asked our production director to use the last 45 seconds of this single. It worked out perfectly. This was WFIR radio in Roanoke VA, Bill Thomas production director and I Doug St Clair then news director.
But, wow the title themesongs are similar! Though i like the A-Team one better - tighter, and more of a singable melody. They show both these shows here in France, but... dubbed to French. Ruins everything.
I actually used to watch the reruns of this on the History channel and then I bought the DVD collection for the first season really love this show and really liked the theme so much so that I've got a model of a Corsair and a zero hanging from the ceiling in my work room and whenever I look up at them I swear I can sit there and hear Hey Boyington dat you? I give you some trouble maybe huh? Okay rice ball you ready to go swimming? LOL
This is the version radio stations played back when the show was still new, also played during airshows whenever they had Corsairs come for the show. The Corsairs would do mock air combats with T-6 Texans made up to look like Japanese A6M 'Zeros'. The Texan 'Zeros' always lost. lol
I’m a big fan of Mike Post but never knew this existed… I think it wasn’t aired in my home country… but this channel seems to be British so I’m confused how I missed this. Thanks for uploading this!
My father was in the Navy at this time in the Pacific. He remembered hearing about them. They were unconventional as far as military went but excellent pilots
Visit the Palm Springs Airport Air Museum in Palm Springs, California. They have a beautiful F4U Corsair there, and they even fly it from time to time. Amazing!
If anyone wants a better, more accurate account of the life of Gregory Boyington, warts and all, I'd like to recommend BLACK SHEEP ONE, penned by former Naval aviator Bruce Gamble. BLACK SHEEP ONE cuts through some of the swagger contained in "Pappy" Boyingyon'd autobiography,.BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP. But, learning some of the personal struggles the Colonel had to have, it left me with a more balanced appraisal of the market n, but still very much allowed him to remain a hero. Another fine history of the Black Sheep is Frank Walton's ONCE THEY WERE EAGLES. Lt. Walton served as Intelligence Officer for VMF-214 under Boyington.
"Which one o' them planes is yours, college boy?UhUh that one's mine. They're all of 'em mine & I'm gonna just loan 'em out to you once or twicet a day & God help you if you bring it back broke!"
I remember the first time Micklin showed up with the Black Sheep. Then they were going to bump him up to either a Warrant Officer or a Battlefield Commission and he started a brawl in the Sheep's Pen. Pappy says, "These guys just want to be your friend". The answer he got was, " If I wanted a bunch of College Boy friends I would have gone to college."
@@pointingdog7235 Then Pappy explained that as a Captain,he could get more things done than as a Sergeant so he took the commission until the paperwork came back disapproved.
@@doughesson So that's what happened with him, because I remember he was a Sergeant the whole time. My Father was in a Corsair Squadron the end of WW2 and started my love of F4-U's.
@@pointingdog7235 Just remember that the series wasn't a completely accurate depiction of the squadron. The first season lasted longer than Pappy's time with the unit before he was shot down
@@doughesson oh I know that. I enjoyed watching the show with my Father when I was a kid. Ive heard a lot of the Black Sheep where let's say pissed about how they were portrayed in the TV show. Another thing about Pappy Boyington was he resigned his commission with the Marine Corps and flew with the famed Flying Tigers in China before the US entered WW2.
While this version is good, it uses trombones instead of the warmer sounding French horns, that were used in the original. I still prefer the use of the French horns. :-)

I guess "Garrison's gorillas" are prety similar to The A Team
@@sandralee3091 Well, the same guy wrote both songs so he might have decided to not work as hard the second time.
I love it when a Plan comes together!
Awesome show, the aerial shots during combat were real footage

Wow perfect tune for a 2021 remake!
A dark gritty, realistic remake that pays respect to the actual men that were in the black sheep squadron.
AMAZING... Thank you so much... I've been looking for this theme song for a very long time!
My father was in the Navy at this time in the Pacific. He remembered hearing about them. They were unconventional as far as military went but excellent pilots
I watched this all the time as a kid with my grandma probably why I love corsair's now
Me too. We were very influenced by WWII and pride in country. Desert Rats. Hogan's Heroes.
Me too. My granddad was in Naval Aviation. We also watched Rat Patrol together.
best tv show with a great theme song
I WANT THE UNITED STATES NAVY TO ADOPT THIS MUSIC CLIP FOR OUR FIGHTERS ON OUR DEMO TEAMS AND THE U.S MARINE CORPS
The show was great. Not historically correct but entertaining anyway. Got to love those F4Us
Ever since that show, I have wanted to see a real Corsair, up close. But air museums don't have one.
Visit the Palm Springs Airport Air Museum in Palm Springs, California.

Just finished watching both seasons again.
The first season lasted longer than the real Major Boyington's tour with the squadron.
Great theme music. Loved that dog!
Here meatball come come on meatball
The TV version didn't have an electric guitar! One of the best Post themes for Stephen J. Cannell (he was still at Universal then).
Yes and never on cd in a full version sadly.
R.I.P. ROBERT CONRAD ,R.I.P. ROBERT GINTY , Love you all Black sheep.
Ginty Is Flying High, Into That Eternal Sky. On Wings Of Angels 🙏
Last Mission Over Sengai is my favorite.!!
Awesome
love this show and when I was playing War Thunder, Corsair was my favorite ^plane :)
The Corsair even managed to kick some Mig 15 ass over Korea. What a beast of a Bird.

jazzy version nice
This is the one that was played on the radio
I finally found this.
While this version is good, it uses trombones instead of the warmer sounding French horns, that were used in the original.

Yeah they were a better fit😊
Salute to both you heroes
Get yourself a good pair of Oakleys for this one got it covered?
No siren?
Where can I find this version? Anybody know, please tell me via you tube.
this is most likely the only area, but theres always downloading through UA-cam to mp3
Before the A-Team there's the BLACK SHEEP SQUADRON! YUP. SOUNDS LIKE ARMY Oughta TAKE A MOMENT TO RECONSIDER THE APPROACH TO THE CURRENT WORLD HAHAHA
Where did you find this?
Its from the Epic 45rpm. USA release 1977.
I remember the intro but I remember the music differently
Did Mike Post also do the 'Universal Newsreel' segment opening theme?
From Medal of Honor
To “professional “ wrestling Referee
Loved that show
